What do you do xmas eve?

There isn't much on here on xmas eve.
Last year we went to panto but have done that already. The year before I think we went to the zoo as we had an annual pass but no longer do.
We have book breakfast with Santa but will be done with that by 12. I might get some bits to make ferarro rocher trees for the xmas table. We will do a film bath and bed in the evening but the afternoon is looking a bit boring!
What is everyone else doing?

People arriving. Walk dog on beach.
Village promenade crib service starting in pub/square and finishing in church and supper afterwards; same every year. Everyone has same meal hosted by those most able to cater for about 20-25 people.
Back to Square at 9:30 for final carol before heading home.

Spacerader · 21/12/2019 23:15

The children always spend christmas eve with their dad. So for me I prep veg and clean and do last minute wrapping. Then when the children come home around 5, dp, myself and the dc take the dog out for a walk. Come home get washed and changed and settle down for an evening buffet and play a board game.

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2019 23:17

We’ll be driving 300 miles. That’ll take most of the day.

Cloudyyy · 21/12/2019 23:58

Early morning welly walk with friends (kids same ages), then meeting family to visit our special bench together and pub lunch with the whole clan. Home in the afternoon to open Christmas Eve boxes, put on new pjs, hang stockings, sprinkle reindeer food and watch a film together. When kids in bed, will bake a Camembert with DH... can’t wait!

Bunnylady53 · 22/12/2019 00:12

I’m working for part of the day then not sure what we’re doing apart from Maccie D’s for tea & probably watch “ Love Actually “. We have reindeer dust to sprinkle & we’ll track Santa on NORAD.

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 22/12/2019 00:59

Dh working till 4 but possible midday finish..
I'm going to pop to mu mums.. She only lives 5 min away just to pass some time till he finishes.
Then I'd. Imagine just chill. At 36w pregnant then and suffering with anemia I can't focus in a hectic day.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 22/12/2019 01:10

Im not going anywhere near town or supermarkets it'll be crazy.

Make gingerbread men, open Xmas eve boxes with activities for the kid and a book for me, drink hot chocolate/mulled wine, do a jigsaw together, practice reading, read xmas books, watch xmas films.

I've said he's allowed to open one present on xmas eve, it's a paint your own Bob the Builder vehicles set so that'll keep him busy for a while. See what's on telly, go for a walk. I'll keep him up as late as I can so he doesn't wake me up too early in the morning.

I wish it could be Xmas eve every day!

Star2015 · 22/12/2019 06:26

We don’t have DC.., we will get up early and I’ll make sausage rolls for the evening, collect pre ordered bread from the bakery at 9.30am then head over to DH moms and aunts. If we get back early enough we’ll stop in one of the cafes in our village for a hot chocolate. We’ll head to my parents around 4pm and we’ll have hot pork sandwiches, sausage rolls and mini sausages around 5pm followed by M&S celebration cake. We’ll head out around 7pm to go to the 7.30pm carol concert at the village church then after that we will go to our cricket club which is right across the road from the church until around 10pm/10.30pm.

Christmas Eve always has and always will be one of my favourite days of the year Xmas Grin

sadatchristmas1 · 22/12/2019 07:38

We have a big breakfast then after I've cleared away we bake cookies and cakes, tidy up and do Christmas crafts and prepare the house for Santa. I cook a simple tea and then The Christmas fairy delivers new Christmas pjs and a Christmas Eve box while the youngest 2 are in the bath, we all get changed and watch the movie that is in the Christmas Eve box along with the snacks in the box.

VestaTilley · 22/12/2019 09:07

Crib service or Christingle at church - always lovely for children, and lots of carols. Then watching The Snowman at home, reading Christmas books and the Nativity story to DS, fish pie for tea then bed.

VestaTilley · 22/12/2019 09:08

Also baking mince pies and decorating Christmas cake!

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 22/12/2019 11:00

I love Christmas eve the most of all. A relaxed calm type of day where people are in a good mood. We dont do much at all, we drop off presents to a couple of houses, watch telly, I might prep some veg for next day. It's a day for doing very little in my house.

BrieAndChilli · 22/12/2019 11:02

We often go to the garden centre for a walk around

Sparklybaublefest · 22/12/2019 11:39

It looks like I might be driving DD (20) to a pub and picking her up later!
oh well, i didnt really want any alcohol

Whattheduck · 22/12/2019 11:41

I’m working from 12.30 til 16.00 but will probably pop to Lidl in the morning
Having a buffet tea cheeseboard, ham, salad and nice fresh bread
Then will prep vegetables for Christmas Day whilst listening to Christmas carols
Watch a Christmas film and have a couple of drinks probably a snowball or two

TeaLibrary · 22/12/2019 12:06

I am working until lunchtime on Christmas Eve. I want to take some time after that to go and lay flowers at the churchyard where my father and grandfather are interred. Our family has suffered multiple bereavements this year and we are in mourning. Christmas will be very quiet. There are empty spaces where our loved ones should be and we are still processing and grieving. I have gone through the motions of organising Christmas gifts and collecting the Turkey / Christmas food order but I feel utterly numb.

BananaSpanner · 22/12/2019 12:15

We go swimming in the morning for dc to burn off some energy. Have pool mainly to ourselves. Then hot chocolate, films, games and out for a meal to celebrate a family birthday.

GreyGardens88 · 22/12/2019 12:17

McDonalds for xmas tea? Hmm

AdoptedBumpkin · 22/12/2019 12:21

I used to take my daughter out or we would stay in baking. This year, the latter is more likely as we have moved to a small village and the weather is likely to be wet here.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 22/12/2019 12:21

I'm working until 11:30am. We'll go and visit my folks and see my auntie.

About 5pm MIL & her fella, PIL & his wife are coming round for a buffet. They'll all be gone for about 7ish.

Watch Arthur Christmas with DS. He's 14 now but still loves it. A a few drinks and then bed.

BarbedBloom · 22/12/2019 12:51

DH is working. Once he finishes we will do food prep and then watch a film. We often go to the cinema but there is nothing on we want to see this year.

Shitfuckoh · 22/12/2019 13:43

First year as a single parent.
The kids will see their dad & have their gifts from him Christmas eve morning. They'll have lunch with him (here.. long story). After that it'll be Xmas eve box which will have a little craft to do - which we'll do together and then baths & in to new PJ's - hot chocolate & snacks for the Christmas movie. We will just be having a snacky lunch & dinner this year, previously we've gone out for lunch but it's all changed now.

Hoppinggreen · 22/12/2019 13:45

Dc are 11 and 15
We go out for a meal with friends at about 6 then home and into PJs to watch a film together - got us all matching pjs this year, the teenager will be thrilled!

Pilot12 · 22/12/2019 14:04

Have a big argument with DP because I want to watch Home Alone, eat chocolate and drink Baileys whilst tracking Santa for the DC.

DP leaves all his wrapping until Christmas Eve evening and takes all evening to do it, every damn year. By the time he's done I'm off to bed.

Me and DC will watch Christmas movies and eat chocolate wearing our Christmas PJ's. DP and I will argue about him leaving the wrapping until Christmas Eve and not being able to join us for the seventh year in a row!

Getoffmylilo · 22/12/2019 14:05

Work. I like it that way.
