Christmas Eve to Epiphany (Jan 6)

Mine went up yesterday Grin you just can't beat an nice warm cosy house with pretty fairy lights twinkling away . I have lots of decorations and have spent to much money for them to sit in the loft so they come down on Halloween ready to go up on the 1st of November . My kids love it and it doesn't ruin the magic for them at all . When I was a kid my mum never decorated for Christmas (she still doesn't) and me and my sister hated it . So I make sure I go all out . Outside decs don't go out untill the 1st of December but the inside of my house is lovely and festive currently GrinGrin

I aim for the weekend after the DC breakup from school. My DC bug me all December so it usually goes up a week early.

The 1st of December used to be early to put the tree up, now it seems its peoples normal and November is the new 1st December.

I love Christmas, I am literally Elf reincarnated, but not for the whole of december fgs.

GruciusMalfoy · 02/11/2019 11:40

First weekend in December for us. I'd prefer later but am outvoted every year. I don't feel very Christmassy until we've had panto, nativity plays, seen Santa Claus etc.

Advent Sunday before going to church (evening) for the advent service

Shufflebumnessie · 02/11/2019 13:12

Tree goes up on the Friday evening closest to 1st December. This year it will be 29th November Confused. It's tradition that DS comes home from school and we decorate the tree. Outside lights and other decorations in the house will go up over that weekend.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/11/2019 13:53

First weekend in December. Or last in November when it falls like it did last year.

I take it down on NYD usually. It might stay up til 4th next year as I'm working on 30th and 31st Dec, so might not have the impetus!

Christmas Eve!

RoseToes · 02/11/2019 14:14

Mid november, always have done. It’s my DM’s birthday and she likes to celebrate by putting her decorations up, and it carried on into my house

Itshouldneverhavehappened · 02/11/2019 14:34

Some Saturday in December - depends what everyone is doing and who is around and prepared to help me (we put up 2 trees).

Fizzypoo · 02/11/2019 15:02

@hippy1952 I love doing it christmas eve and would if I could without the DC rebelling. Having it up on Christmas eve for christmas day makes it much more special. Even doing it the week before takes the shine off the decorations on the day.

6th of Nov.As soon as bonfire night is finished its game on!

Maryann1975 · 02/11/2019 15:33

I don’t get how you can feel festive just because your home is decorated. (But I do get that we are all different and what is right for us isn’t how others feel). For me to feel festive, I need others to feel the same, to be hearing Christmas songs on the radio, children to be rehearsing for the Christmas show, maybe a church carol service, mince pies, having the log burner on, dark and cold evenings, Christmas parties/events, Christmas films, buying and wrapping presents. Feeling festive is far more than having the tree up.
I also decorate the house and I’ve noticed that those around me who put the tree up early only put the tree up, they don’t tend to decorate the whole house (this might just be those I know, obviously not everyone who puts their tree up).
I think ours will go up the 8th/9th weekend this year and then we normally take them down on the 2nd January, ready to go back to work on the 3rd.

Phimma · 02/11/2019 15:39

Week before Xmas the tree goes up, and we take it down day after Boxing Day.

Deelish75 · 02/11/2019 15:46

We have a real tree and it’s usually 1st Sat in Dec but we’re busy that afternoon so we’ll probably bring it forward to week before (30 Nov). Normally take it down the afternoon of NYD.

FrankenCat · 02/11/2019 15:49

Normally the 1st of December but will be about the 5th or 6th this year as we are dog sitting til then and I'm not putting the tree up until she's gone back home.

It'll be down before the new year.

HuggedTrees · 02/11/2019 15:54

Having the tree up for 5/6 weeks doesn’t take away from the magic it adds to it for me. Those saying they get bored, do you get bored of your usual decorations? Or your usual ornaments out?

Topseyt · 02/11/2019 16:00

Just after schools break up. The DDs can then put it up.

I take it down either on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. I'm fed up with it taking up space by then.

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 16:01

First weekend in december. This year it will probably be the 1st december as we have plans the weekend after. I have a friend who puts hers up on the 1st November. Ir seems too early for me but she seems to enjoy it.

Maryann1975 · 02/11/2019 16:02

It’s not that I get bored of them, but because I see them all the time, they don’t give me the same special feeling that I get when I look at my Christmas decorations. I’m quite minimalist really and don’t have much stuff out most of the year, so when the decorations come out, I feel excited and love the feeling of anticipation they bring with them. I can’t imagine that those feelings would last for 7 weeks, when the first three weeks there is very little meaningful Christmas stuff going on anywhere else.

ConFusion360 · 02/11/2019 16:25

I've been driving past a new housing development on the way to work. At the beginning of last week I noticed that all the show houses facing the road had Christmas wreaths on the doors.

If we are home over Christmas our (real) tree goes up on the first weekend of December. We would normally go and select which one we want around now, or a bit earlier. It take it down at the end of Christmas on the 5th of January.

We are away this year so it will be a smaller fake tree in the window from the end of November.

ConFusion360 · 02/11/2019 16:26

I take it down...

Fifthtimelucky · 02/11/2019 16:44

We always have the same guests for lunch on the Saturday or Sunday before Christmas so mine goes up the day before they arrive.

I always have a real one, and it went up too early it would be past its best by new year.
