Morning,
I am in trouble with DH for my plans for a family gathering. “How can I expect to fit up to 28 people in our house?!”
He magically added 2, I’m fairly certain at least 4-6 won’t come, and I have plenty of folding tables I can borrow from the Scout Den so it’s more chairs and crockery that I need (and I’m calling to Ikea on my way to the airport this morning 🤫😀).

I hope the airport will be quiet and I can catch up on all the chat. And make my lists again - we’ve agreed the main part of Christmas dinner so I need to order that and check my other jobs that need doing.

Our decorations are going up 1st Dec, then the following weekend we’ll be helping FIL put his up. We lost MIL this year, and she loved Christmas. Honestly their house was stunning at Christmas. I’m gutted about a lot of things my DC will miss out on after her death, and seeing her house at Christmas is one of them. So we’ve decided to honour her memory by decorating their house as she did, and hopefully it will become a tradition that we do annually with the DC, to help them “know” her and talk about her. It will be very hard this year, but I think she’d be happy we were doing it.

DS is back at preschool this week after half term, and little DD has just wandered over to me, waving her Frozen DVD. Looks like a cosy morning in for us, hiding from the fog and the damp.

RoseToes · 04/11/2019 08:09

flouncy I decorate the inside of the fireplace with fairy lights all year round. It drives DH barmy😂, but he has no say in the way we decorate, I wouldn’t trust him.

Biddy the most I can fit in my house would be 10😂, I’m sure you’ll manage it though, it seems as though you have it all planned.

Our fireplace is blocked in this house. It's housing association and we aren't allowed to touch it. Our heating is all electric on an air source heat pump. I would love an open fire again. My friend has just moved to a lovely place with a wood burner but she pays £1800 a month rent so I'll stick with our crap house Grin

CrazyBaubles · 04/11/2019 08:46

£1800 a month rent?? We pay less than a third of that (although we live in a cheap/ish area).

Biddy I've been in trouble for similar. I think we've managed 35 once (but I was in summer and we had people in the front room, living room, dining room, kitchen and garden so they were spread out and it didn't feel as bad). I def couldn't stretch to plates etc for that many though!

I want to put the decs up on Dec 1st this year as we're going away on 21st (not back until New Year's Day) but I think DH is gong to argue with me about it (as per tradition) 🙄

I just don't want to have to try and do it after work, I like to take my time and enjoy it with Christmas music playing).

Also, I saw my first tree up this weekend - was fully decorated and lit up in someone's window yesterday!

Mrsmadevans · 04/11/2019 09:22

Morning everyone 😀
Lovely day here again ♥️
Not surprised the hedgies haven't gone , we haven't had the bitter frost here yet l don't know what it's been like with everyone else though🤗.
I see we have a lot new people here. Welcome to you all.
Must dash, Mum to see to have a good day everyone 😀

RoseToes · 04/11/2019 09:38

flouncy it’s my favourite thing about my whole house. How many cats do you have? I’d love a cat but we have a dog instead, and DH doesn’t like them very much

wreck £1800 a month! God that’s steep. I bet it’s worth it for her fireGrin

DS2 has fell asleep, so I’ll be cracking on with some work and then if he stays asleep for long enough I might be able to get a nap in myself. Enjoy your day everyone!

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/11/2019 09:39

Stacerini welcome. What a lovely thing to do to honour your MIL's memory.

I passed two houses yesterday with fully decorated trees in the window. A bit too early for me to put mine up but it's not harming anyone so why not.

Mine will go up on 5/12. All the DC will be out and I can just crack on. DH will help with the construction and then I'll decorate. Hopefully everything will be done when the DC get home.

Emrys we were at Center Parcs for my 40th birthday when a swan decided that he was setting up camp on our front path. Every time we tried to leave the lodge he hissed and flapped. We ended up ringing security and they sent down a couple of groundskeepers in a golf buggy. Even they steered well clear of the swan and redirected it to the lake using boards that made them look like they were riot police!

Biddy if we bring in our garden furniture we could rustle up dining chairs and enough tables to seat 21. I've probably got enough crockery for everyone too although it would be spread over 4 sets (our posh set, our everyday set and the remnants of our last two everyday sets) and that would make the perfectionist in me very twitchy 🤣

I've got lists on my phone to keep track of what I've bought for the DC and what I still need to get. In the bought column it says chocolate but I've been wracking my brain to try to remember what I have as I would usually get that a couple of weeks before Christmas. I must have bought it when I was away for my anniversary but I have no recollection. Stupid meno brain.

I'm booked on a wreath making course with two friends in early December so I'm really excited about that. There was one mentioned on a local FB group but it's gone a bit quiet - if the local one is still happening then I'll see if I can make a table decoration instead.

RoseToes · 04/11/2019 10:00

Stacerini I completely missed your post! So sorry. That’s a lovely tradition in honour of your MIL❤️.

The Hilton by Albert Dock has a tree-shaped light installation at the front of the building. And there's loads of other massive light structures going up round L1 too.

Hi to newbies!

I've done a shit load of work today. I'm utterly knackered now!

flouncy you’re making me so jealous! A cat would fit right in with us. We have our little pup, Milk. But I’d love a cat. Yippee! I’m glad you managed to find your magazine, I looked for it yesterday when I was in the supermarket but I couldn’t find one. Enjoy your fairy light battle, I’m not ashamed to say I will be doing the same by the end of the monthGrin

Fluffy have another glass on me WineGrin. I hope you’re managing to wind down.

DD had her dance class today and she loved it. She’s coming on leaps and bounds. DS2 has perked up, so I might be in for a good nights sleep tonight🤞🏻. I tried to get some work done today but managed to sink down a sex and the city holeBlush.

WreckTangled · 04/11/2019 18:09

I am going to be like that film "Christmas With The Kranks" (where they have to mad dash round on Christmas Eve ) we watch it every year because DH has a thing for Jamie Leigh Curtis Xmas Grin

I have ordered some boots (M&S) vegan ones for me .

Had to order a supermarket delivery instead of going there and it was much easier than I thought but I still prefer actually shopping in person.

( I have still got 7 weeks . Holds onto that !) Xmas Grin
