How many people did you buy for this year?

I'm asking because I think I buy for a ridiculous number which contributes to massive stress for me before Christmas. I want to cut down but before I look at this I want to get a idea of how many people others buy for and what a reasonable number is.

I will be making a cull list later and may ask for help on how to do this as the number just creeps up every year. I love giving gifts so at the end of the year just promise myself I'll be more organised next year but no matter how organised I am it's a military operation and I am sick of it!

So, how many people do you have on your gift list?

DH and i buy for each other, then it goes as follows :
2 x DDs
3 x nieces /nephews
My parents
His parents (live abroad so just flower arrangement)
My sister /BIL
4 x kids of my oldest friends
Childminder
Teachers /TA
Work secret santa
So that's 19, but in reality a lot of those are easy token gifts that don't require much thought. I set a strict £15 budget for my friends children. We don't buy for DH's brother and SIL, just their children as they are abroad too.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 30/12/2018 10:03

10 people including kids. I've got a small family (3 of us) so those are mainly friends and kids. I did have a crazy time buying for extended family but this year suggested we meet up and I pay for the meal rather than crappy presents which you know aren't quite hitting the spot. Worked wonderfully!

kimikoglenn · 30/12/2018 10:03

As a teacher, anyone that is buying for us, please don't feel the need to, I would much rather a kind word in a card/email. I often regift/donate a lot of the stuff I get as tends to be lots of candles and chocolate.

WipsGlitter · 30/12/2018 10:04

Kids
DH
DSis
DBiL
SSiL
Aunt - token gift
3 x nieces
1 x nephew

Also present from the kids to BIL. We do a sort of secret Santa thing with the adults.

DH bought his dad something.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/12/2018 10:05

Mum, dad, 2 x DC, 2 uncles & 1 aunt, SIL & BIL (couple of bottles of similar), DP.

Weepingwillows12 · 30/12/2018 10:08

20 I think. But two of those are multiple gudts (kids) and I have to get two things for 5 extras due to a family tradition. Then 3 birthdays around Christmas. I always find it so hard to get nice thoughtful things for so many. I start early to spread out the cost and pain.

BoobOrBust · 30/12/2018 10:09

Too many!!

2x DC
2x DH/Me
4x Parents
4x grandparents
7x siblings/partners
1x nephew
2x cousins children
8x auntie/uncles (token gifts)
10x cousins/partners (token gifts)
5x close friends
2x godchild & sibling
4x family friends (token gifts)
1x work secret santa
2x nursery/teacher

So 54. We only buy the "token" presents as all these people buy for DC. We've tried telling them not to buy before as DC have too many presents which just ended up with them buying for DC anyway and getting nothing in return which made me feel guilty.

Weepingwillows12 · 30/12/2018 10:09

Around 35 but within that some get tonnes of stuff like nieces etc and then couples may get a token between them eg set of glasses but just cost a fiver.

I buy very few. See the Martin Lewis item and discuss with family and friends before next Christmas. It really does release you from the pressure and stress.

Yulebealrite · 30/12/2018 14:25

About 20. Some got token gifts, some got multiple gifts.

Laniakea · 30/12/2018 14:30

15 -
DH & our four kids
Mum & Dad & MIL
Brother & SIL
Sister & BIL
brother's three kids

(plus token bottle of wine/chocolates etc when we've visited people)

EmpressJewel · 30/12/2018 14:50

We buy for about 20 people - parents, siblings plus nieces and nephews.

We also have a few 'optional' people we buy for - children's god parents and our priest. The only place we could cut back on is those 'optional' people, but I don't want to.
Luckily, I am organised when it comes to Christmas, so I don't find it difficult (an also good at finding bargains, so can afford it),

BrigitsBigKnickers · 30/12/2018 14:50

WhatOnEarthDoIDoNow · 30/12/2018 15:00

32 people, cousins, siblings, elderly relatives, parent, nieces and nephews and friends. Unfortunately can’t cut it down just yet.

Piccolino2 · 30/12/2018 15:07

This is really interesting. This year I had 50 people to buy for plus a few neighbours (we are having building work) and 9 builders (they only got wine but still).. It was ridiculous. On top of the demands of school for raffle, wine, chocolates, tinned food items, dressing up days, parties etc and a load of December birthdays I was just floored, despite starting early. I have to do something about this next year as I actually want to enjoy Christmas before it's over, I will have 2 children and a 6 month old and I am the only one in my house to do a thing towards Christmas! I just feel bad when I think or culling people as once it's done I love giving presents.
