How many people did you buy for this year?

I'm asking because I think I buy for a ridiculous number which contributes to massive stress for me before Christmas. I want to cut down but before I look at this I want to get a idea of how many people others buy for and what a reasonable number is.

I will be making a cull list later and may ask for help on how to do this as the number just creeps up every year. I love giving gifts so at the end of the year just promise myself I'll be more organised next year but no matter how organised I am it's a military operation and I am sick of it!

So, how many people do you have on your gift list?

My friend asked me for help on this. She buys for each individual so she will buy her sister a present and then her sisters boyfriend and then all 3 of her children all get a gift each. And she does that for the rest of her family. This was my suggestion ...
-Buy a celebrations box and put it to the family.
-just buy for the children.
-tell the family politely and nicely that you don't want to do/can't afford/to many people to buy for... gifts and don't expect to receive any.
-do Homemade family Christmas cards instead.
Not very good advice but my friend decided to give everyone a Christmas card for next year and not do gifts. Lol. Everyone's happy with it.

My husband and I don't buy for each other or my parents (they are much richer and insist we don't spend our money on them). We don't buy for our siblings either.

Our list:
DD
DS
DH parents (often a voucher either a meal out or M & S)
Our two nieces and one nephew
Godson
Godson's sister

HairyToity · 01/01/2019 00:25

Some more organised mums organise a class present for teacher and teaching assistant, and I just give them a fiver contribution.

VanGoghsDog · 01/01/2019 00:34

I usually have:

Dsis
Nephew
Niece
Godson
Ex DSS

But this year I've somehow managed to get back in touch with the parents. They don't do Christmas but sent me a cheque so have bought them each a very small thing.

Then I had a second Christmas with cousins, two of their kids and a friend, so that was four more people to buy for.

And I've had an email from my boss saying she has a gift for me. I don't have anything for her......can't decide what to do.....got to decide tomorrow!

Blondie1993 · 01/01/2019 00:43

13 I think.

DS
Boyfriend
Mum
Brother & SIL - joint present
Niece
Gran
Childminder
Teacher
Godparents - joint present
DS dad
DS dad partner
DS half sister
Work secret Santa

7 of those are £10 or less though, just token gifts really! Which makes me wonder how the hell I managed to spend so much money this year Xmas Hmm. Plan to start earlier next year and to stick to budgets for each person!

pineapplebryanbrown · 01/01/2019 00:45

4 people

2 adult DC
DPs

When I got divorced i lost 14 from the present list - result!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 01/01/2019 00:45

2xDC
DH
2xDparent
DS and DBIL (joint)
Secret Santa at work

No nieces and nephews and we only do birthdays for god-children by mutual agreement. DH does his own family, we don't buy for friends or friends children. We don't do teachers etc now the DCs are teenagers.

KTyoupigeon · 01/01/2019 00:51

2 x DD
2 x sisters
Mum
Dad
Niece
Nephew
2 x close friends (plus 1 child each)
Secret Santa

GoneFishingNC · 01/01/2019 00:51

21 in total.
This includes 1 x teacher and 1 x nursery gift.
But too many I think really now that I’ve totted it up!

WhirlwindHugs · 01/01/2019 00:58

All family = 16
Work, teachers etc = 3
Secret santa with friends = 1

I don't think we could cut it down more than that. We've cut out a lot of family that we now just send cards too. Hopefully they are also happy not to have to buy for us!

elQuintoConyo · 01/01/2019 01:04

DS. Small useful things for DH plus chocolates, he does the same for me.

That is it. Blissfully easy.

We make a by deal DH for birthdays.

Seniorschoolmum · 01/01/2019 01:13

Ds, 4 x siblings, 1 close friend

slappinthebass · 01/01/2019 01:21

For 32, about 5 are £10 or under though.

goose1964 · 01/01/2019 21:28

My dad, the in-laws, dsis and dbil, 3 kids 2 kids in-law, 4 grandsons (next Christmas we'll have a granddaughter too)

HairyDogsFeet · 01/01/2019 22:06

Hardly any:
2 student children-gifts and cash
DM and DF- gifts
MIL and PIL-gifts
2 DNs- presents
4 DNs- cash
Token gift - sweets for DH
Token gift for DB and SIL as here at Christmas

I also bought about 30 toys for the local toy collection.
Usually do about 30 gifts for DH colleagues but he has changed jobs- so spent much less as it was about £700.

HairyDogsFeet · 01/01/2019 22:07

and the dog.

elQuintoConyo · 02/01/2019 10:45

My post makes no sense! We make a big deal about birthdays. Easier to spread out the cost during the year.

ShutUpMorrissey · 03/01/2019 07:59

DH
DD

That's it.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/01/2019 08:08

2 parents
2 sister's
2 nieces
2 daughter

scatteredglitter · 03/01/2019 08:14

Bought for
Dh
2 dd
Ds
(Christmas gifts separate from what fr Christmas brought )

Neighbours x3 - wine and chocolates

Friends families x 2

My god mum
God daughter x2
Kk on dh s side of family
Kk my side of family
Cousins Kk
My parents
Dh parents
Small token for my siblings (they help out a lot with my dc)

Dd s Creche
Various coaches /teachers (small token but still has to be purchased and thought of)

Agree it s too much yet like to use Christmas as an opportunity to say thank you to people who help us out during the year and good friends.

Saisong · 03/01/2019 08:22

DD
DS
DH (token small gifts, he buys his main present)
Myself (can't trust DH or I'd end up with the entire contents of Hotel Chocolat and a pot plant)
MIL
Aunt
3x nieces
3x nephews
2x kids of closest friend
Post money for Xmas goodies to 3x nephews (grown up) and 1 brother
2x Costa gift cards for teacher
£10 family secret Santa (always a consumable)

More than I thought now I list it. Often the nieces and nephews are a reciprocal thing - we agree a budget and buy for our own kids, labelled from them.
