Making mince pies later, making Yule log tomorrow and Victoria sandwich Sunday perhaps (might cheat and buy) mum is making loads and dd2 is making biscuits and a vegan cake

Potato200 · 20/12/2018 07:39

All sounds delicious

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/12/2018 07:53

I've made mince pies and frozen them
I'm baking something, possibly nigella's little truffle type things, for our Christmas Eve walk
I've done my cake.

I have the stuff in to do things with the dc if they want to but nothing else planned. It's nice actually to have relieved the pressure/performance anxiety and not done it this year,

Carrie76 · 20/12/2018 09:20

I normally just make some Christmas biscuits with the kids but you’ve all inspired me! Can anybody share recipes for fudge, gingerbread men and stained glass biscuits please!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 20/12/2018 17:59

I have so much baking to do this weekend, I think I may have set myself an impossible challenge!

24 mince pies (had a trial run last weekend)
Yule log
Ginger and pecan cake (instead of Christmas cake)
Gingerbread men
Gingerbread house
Vanilla biscuit Christmas tree
Cauliflower cake (to go with the soup I'm making for Christmas Eve)
Cottage pie to freeze
A million veggie sausage rolls

And a mushroom pie which I'll make on Christmas Day.

Good luck to everyone!

Fantail · 20/12/2018 18:31

Yes! It’s part of feeling Christmassy for me. So far:

  • chocolate bundt cake with a white glaze and red sugar glitter. This was for a charity I bake for
  • ginger and chocolate chunk slice for morning tea at work today

This weekend/Monday

  • mini pecan pies
-rocky road -florentines

These are all gifts.

I’m a T1 diabetic so if I bake I need to give most of it away.

AnnabelleLecter · 20/12/2018 18:37

So far I've made
Rocky road
Brownies
Yule log
Christmas cake

Still to do
Christmas tree biscuits
Cheesecake

NoWordForFluffy · 20/12/2018 19:09

@Carrie76: gingerbread men which I've made and are yummy and photo for the stained glass cookies which I haven't!

@Carrie76
ginger bread recipe I swap the syrup for treacle sometimes, I've done two batchs of each.

350g plain flour
100g butter
5 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
175g light brown soft sugar
4 tablespoons golden syrup
1 medium egg

My Dd has asked me to make a baked Alaska for Christmas Day. I’ve never made one before. Has anyone got an easy recipe for me ?
Thanks

Itsanewme · 20/12/2018 20:47

All your baking sounds lovely. I’m a total novice but willing to try.

DogMamma · 20/12/2018 20:48

@Knittink Ds apparently thought we were going to eat it the moment it was finished shock. Not bloody likely after all that effort!

Not sure of DH OR Dss is worse here I've actually told them that none of it is for our house and it's what a been ordered by family/friends I often bake for others and receive small payment so they've fallen for it.....both in a huge sulk mind but stuff em they can wait! ......god I'm really mean

@Fantail ginger and chocolate chunk sounds delicious. Could you share the recipe please?

Pinkyyy · 20/12/2018 22:35

Wow some great ideas I'll be stealing from this thread! Since you're all mince pie experts, does anyone know why mine always catch on top? I always egg wash them but was thinking perhaps to try without

Smurfybubbles · 21/12/2018 08:22

@Carrie76 I make the easiest chocolate fudge known to man, it's from the carnation condensed milk page :) look up their easy chocolate fudge recipe. The vanilla one is a little tricker but this one is fool proof, just make sure if you're buying chocolate that you go for plain chocolate not milk, I find the Tesco value range bar 100g for 30p the best for it!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 21/12/2018 09:49

I do microwave fudge. It's so easy:

Tin of condensed milk
400g chocolate - chocolate orange is particularly nice - break it up.

Put into a microwaveable bowl.
Microwave in 30 sec bursts and beat the mixture in between bursts.

Pour into a lined dish or pan.
Refrigerate overnight.

Never fails. I don't have any success on the hob but this recipe is brilliant.

Carrie76 · 22/12/2018 19:18

Thank you so much for recipes and links going to have a baking session tmwSmile

sophisticatedsarcasm · 22/12/2018 19:25

So my lemon drizzle went down a treat despite it being my late Nan’s recipe and her not writing how to do the drizzle part, my area manager tried it yesterday and said it was amazing, then he made our regional manager (first time I’ve met him as he’s fairly new to the area) try it and he told me I was in wrong job and that my talents were wasted. My area manager then almost choked and told other manager that I’m part of the team that make a certain section of the company the most successful in the region. Feeling pretty happy to be honest 😊

PerverseConverse · 22/12/2018 19:37

@LittleLlamaontheduskyroad I'm going to have to try that fudge. I last tried to make some when I was about 8 and failed miserably.

PerverseConverse · 22/12/2018 19:38

Baking day for us tomorrow with mince pies and iced gingerbread cake to have on Christmas Day.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/12/2018 19:55

I did Rocky Road and cookies today. I've made the dough for the pepparkakor wreath and will roll it out / bake tomorrow as it needs 4 hours / overnight in the fridge.

Then it's just mince pies and cheese straws on Monday.

whojamaflip · 22/12/2018 20:00

So far I've made coconut topped buns and mince pies for our party tomorrow and a salted caramel cheesecake for my dds coach as her Christmas present.

Still to make -

Fifteens,
Top hats,
Another cheesecake,
Chocolate brownies
Gluten free roulade
German spiced cake
Hooky beer cake
Cookies
Mary berrys fruity traybake
Trifle

If I get time I might also make a family choc cake but that's not essential (will do for new year instead!)

Nicpem1982 · 22/12/2018 20:05
