Amazon delivered Lego set unwrapped. Son saw it!

Disaster! I am not having much luck with my Christmas shopping this year. I have ordered LEGO 75930 Jurassic World Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate from Amazon as a Christmas present for my son. It costs £99.99, so a pretty expensive item. It arrived today in its original packaging (no other packaging used), with the address label stuck on the original box. Also, the box arrived damaged and it was only secured with a Sellotape. But most of all, my son saw it being delivered!!! As the item arrived unwrapped and the delivery man made no attempt to hide it in some way, in fact he knock on the window of the room where my son played and showed the package to him!
I am devastated. My son still believes in Father Christmas and I will now have to buy another present. Thanks to Amazon I am now £99.99 out of pocket. I have sent a complaint to Amazon, lets see what they say. How would you deal with this?

I would like to warn other mums. If you want to keep your Lego a secret from your children, do not buy it from Amazon!

I had similar happen this week so I have had to convince my children I had bought them as presents from me. They’re excited to get them but not until Christmas. I complained and got a gift card as a sorry. They also sent me a broken toy a while back which they replaced free so their customer service is generally good. Are there any nephews/friends sons you could say you were looking after it for their birthday?? Then tell him if he likes it he should ask Santa for one too. Has worked for me in the past.

That’s so frustrating! I had similar the other day, my DS had asked for some all singing all dancing keyboard for his computer and we ordered it from amazon. It arrived just in clear cellophane, no packaging at all. My DS didn’t see it, and he’s 12 anyway so wouldn’t have been the end of the world but I would have been really pissed off if he had opened the door to the delivery guy.

It’s ridiculous when they over-package so much stuff that doesn’t need it. I got an enormous box with a single book in it recently.

littlemisscomper · 30/11/2018 18:48

Oh what a shame! What did you say to your son?

Twickerhun · 30/11/2018 18:51

I’d keep it and wrap it from Santa anyhow. Just say that you ordered it for a friend but Santa must have the same great ideas?

FissionChips · 30/11/2018 18:54

You could’ve just told him that it isn’t what you ordered so will be sending it back or that you bought it for someone else.

22Giraffes · 30/11/2018 18:55

How annoying Sad I have noticed at the checkout that sometimes in small writing it will say the item will be delivered in its original box and there is a checkbox you can tick to ask for Amazon packaging.
Doesn't help you now i know but might help to avoid future disasters!

toomuchfaster · 30/11/2018 18:55

Everything I have ordered recently had the option to state it is a present so it comes in brown wrapping. I felt this was fairly obvious on the order page. Amazon we're being slated not long ago for using too much packing!!

bassackwards · 30/11/2018 18:56

Wow that's shocking. We have ordered literally thousands of items from amazon over the years - have a delivery almost daily- and I have never had an item delivered without a box/packaging. The stupid behaviour of the driver is typical tho.

toastymarshmallowss · 30/11/2018 18:58

Return to amazon for a refund, tell your son it was delivered by mistake to your address and buy them something different for Christmas? Also amazon often has a little notice which states the item is delivered this way so if they haven't I'd point that out to them and ask them to change it so others aren't disappointed.

That is very frustrating. I think it’s odd when they do this, it isn’t Amazon though, it’s a third party seller.

Also surely big presents are from you though, just the small stocking presents from Father Christmas?

mnahmnah · 30/11/2018 19:00

We ordered an electronic keyboard for our DS and it also arrived in it’s own box, complete with a big picture of a keyboard on it. I’m just pleased that he was at school when it was delivered and we had time to hide it

apostropheuse · 30/11/2018 19:01

That happened to me when my son was younger. I told him it was a birthday present for the son of a work colleague and we were hiding it in our house until his birthday, but that if he really wanted one he could ask Santa to bring one the exact same. He totally believed me and duly asked Santa to bring him one, which he miraculously did!

bringbackthestripes · 30/11/2018 19:03

My mum always told me she bought some presents for us and sent them to Father Christmas to wrap so he could deliver them altogether.
Just tell him you have to send it to Lapland.

You aren’t actually 99.99 out of pocket, if you want to choose something else just return it and get a refund.

CatsForLife · 30/11/2018 19:23

Agree with PP in saying sometimes mummies and daddies get things to help Santa out as some things are difficult for him to get hold of. Failing that, just get refund and buy something else. Really annoying. Also, box in ruined by address label so crap if it’s a gift.

Boohissmiss · 30/11/2018 19:39

Oh no that’s a shame but amazon are doing this now to reduce packaging they clearly tell you at checkout . To tick the box if you need extra packing. Something to look out for with future orders. I would also return and order cheaper from very .

teenager456 · 30/11/2018 19:40

Same !!!! All levels during the year are WRAPPED
The last 3 from amazon and Asda have been UNWRAPPED?????!!!!!! Why ???!!!

teenager456 · 30/11/2018 19:40

Levels - parcels

halcyondays · 30/11/2018 19:49

Amazon never used to do this, did they? I've not had anything from Amazon not wrapped as yet. Pity the delivery man didn't have the sense to try and hide it from your ds. I once had a Yodel man knock and ask if they were any kids about before bringing out a toy kitchen that was only wrapped in plastic .I don't know what company it was from because we hadn't ordered it and he'd gone to the wrong house. But at least he was good enough to check before bringing the parcel out.

chillandrelax · 30/11/2018 20:17

This really frustrates me. Completely agree with cutting back on packaging but at least try and hide it if a child opens the door. Might just have to order everything gift wrapped.

schooltripwoes · 30/11/2018 20:39

Amazon are the pits. They treat their staff terribly and punish them for not packing quickly enough so it's no wonder they don't put things in boxes. Buy locally or from a small independent retailer and get a parcel packed with care and genuine appreciation for your business.

TheCbeebiesYellowBlobs · 30/11/2018 20:49

You'll be pleased to hear that all the boring white goods I bought from them on Black Friday arrived with PLENTY of packaging. Because it would spoil the surprise if someone realised I'd bought a hoover 🙄

Cheesycheesytwist · 30/11/2018 20:54

Bad luck OP! Amazon are starting to do this quite a bit, it's pointed out at checkout. It's a good thing as reduces packaging!

Frenchfancy · 30/11/2018 20:58

Please don't deprive your son of the present he really wants because of this. He will probably spend the next 3 weeks looking forward to it. Imagine the look on his face if he doesn't get it. Honestly, if he is old enough for that lego kit he is old enough to work out about santa.

chronicplainjane · 30/11/2018 21:01

I think this is great, amazon uses way too much packaging. It looks like it tells you at the check out too so look out for it when ordering 🤷🏻‍♀️
