Mine is so hopeless at telling me what she'd like.
I like anything you get me.....
Shiny, sparkly things but not expensive...

Gah. Have you had any brainwaves for yours?

Last year got her a soup maker (she loves it) and the year before, she wanted a new diary, and we also got her a necklace and a couple of books in a series she was reading. This year she has no idea, and I have no idea! Have also in the past got tickets to a show, an electric toothbrush (at her request) , posh skin care stuff, a subscription to a magazine she reads... always get her something personalised from the children - photo, something they have made etc.

halfwitpicker · 28/11/2018 21:25

Probably a spa day

Celticlassie · 28/11/2018 21:33

Cashmere / alpaca socks and a posh gin and tonic set.

PandaG · 28/11/2018 21:33

Garden vouchers. Previous years - magazine subscription, cd/dvd. These for MIL not DM, she has been dead a few years now. But, remembering, tickets to theatre, tickets to strictly come dancing live, photographs of the grandkids.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 28/11/2018 21:43

Her birthday is in December (so inconsiderate) so i've already used the theatre tickets idea. She's not a spa or alcohol person particularly.

A nice scarf, a jigsaw, some books and fave edibles.

stoplickingthetelly · 28/11/2018 21:47

I'm getting mine the No7 makeup mirror. My mum's asked for one. Will get some other bits too, but not sure what yet.

sansou · 28/11/2018 21:48

L'Occitane products which she would never buy for herself - took advantage of the BF weekend prices!

MIL is receiving a bottle of artisan gin.

SPR1107 · 28/11/2018 21:49

Leather cross body bag from next, a personalised desk calendar of all her family for work and the new Yankee square candles

WhirlwindHugs · 28/11/2018 21:50

Is swarovski her taste? All sorts of sparkly but not very expensive bits...

PinkFluffiUnicorn · 28/11/2018 21:51

We do cheerful hampers for each other, nothing above £10, collected from charity shops and eBay. I usually add in a daft game to play on Xmas day too

GVmama · 28/11/2018 21:52

Ugh Mum is one of the most difficult to buy for! I'm going to suggest going treating each other to a posh afternoon tea, partly because I have no idea what to get her and partly to stop her spending silly money on stuff I don't want!

CountFosco · 28/11/2018 21:52

Octopus peg hanger, she doesn't live near an IKEA and thought mine was fab!

Otherwise probably perfume if I can't think of anything else. Or cashmere bedsocks. Some luxury she wouldn't buy herself basically.

She loves cashmere so I always get her a cashmere jumper usually from Marks and Spencer's I've got a gorgeous purple one this year. We also hold our noses and do a family photo shoot and so she gets photos of each of the kids one of the kids all together and then one of the whole family in nice frames. She does a lot of reading so I generally get her a new book and some Christmas chocolates and I've got a bottle of nice red wine as well.

GreenDinosaur · 28/11/2018 21:57

@CountFosco, the technical name for one of those is a Socktopus Wink

EasilyDistracted77 · 28/11/2018 22:02

It'll probably be something from Photobox using photos of the children. I usually do a calendar.

didireallysaythat · 28/11/2018 22:11

Nothing! I bought her a birthday present last year (it's her birthday in December) and it totally confused her so I don't feel bad about nothing bothering sign either this year (she hasn't in decades). But I left home 30 years ago so it's not like we're close

jocktamsonsbairn · 28/11/2018 22:22

Got do and dad a trip away wit hotel and theatre from me and my dB dailies. Wee presents for birthday and Christmas for her and dad are:
Cinema tickets to see it's a wonderful life in west end of Glasgow, plus lunch vouchers for same area.
For just her:
Chocolates
Lovely gloves from wee boutique (only £15!!)
The Elemis set from bargain thread
Scarf from local shop - act black with sparkly bits
Box of the G&B chocs from bargains thread
Mamma Mia 2 dvd ass she can't cope with steaming!

Holidayshopping · 28/11/2018 22:25

We also hold our noses and do a family photo shoot

Is that a ‘thing’?!

MrsMiggel · 28/11/2018 22:26

I got my DM a lovely Ted Baker tote to carry her shopping in. She loved it so much she didn’t like to use it, which sort of defeated the object. I usually do a Xmas Eve treat hamper for her too - chocolates, chips and dip, popcorn, drinks and a dvd.

queenofelves · 28/11/2018 22:28

A jo malone candle, elemis face wash, new makeup powder she asked for, some pjs she asked for, a new charm for her bracelet and a spf lip balm and scratch map for her travels next year.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 28/11/2018 22:29

Every year my mum says ‘I don’t want anything, save your money’ every year I buy her something.
This year I’ve got her a Christmas duvet which she knows about as she’s gonna put it on her bed soon.
Another duvet cover as she just got a new bed and decorated and she’s had the others for longer than I can remember so I got her one with colours matching her room.
I’ve done a personalised calendar for her. And she’ll be getting a voucher for bravissimo as she needs a new one like every 9 months.

Hairytangerine · 28/11/2018 22:33

My mum has really helped me this year so us getting spoiled.

Grey jasper conran bag, Cath kitson cardi and pj’s and a Louis Vuitton scarf.

Flutternotsoshy · 28/11/2018 22:37

An expensive perfume that the loves but will never think to buy for herself, new nightwear (she likes the night shirts that are about right now)
A new mug cos she collects them and a pair of earrings (silver, sparkly) cos she loses them regularly so they always need replacing.
