As ever I am struggling for ideas. So far I have got him:
Socks (Yes, I know)
A biography "The Lost Soul of Eamon Magee"
And a small gift set box of three mini ports with a glass

What are you getting for your dh /dp?

We've agreed to only do stockings with a limit of £20, just a little something.

So far I've gotten gin and tonic gummy candies and lens wipes. I plan to pick up a pack of bamboo socks from TK Maxx and maybe a mug or some nice instant coffee.

Loyaultemelie · 28/11/2018 12:09

2 model tractors (1 from each dd), a set of tractor dvds (there's a theme developing here) a pair of kurt Geiger brogue boots from a Black Friday sale and apparently he wants a ddebit for the donkey appeal (the ex working ones abroad) I will probably add a decent bottle of whiskey. He's not very Rock n roll Grin

Vicious2018 · 28/11/2018 12:18

He gets
One of the books in game of thrones series
Beard grooming kit
Lego Star Wars BB8 model (he has always been Lego and Star Wars fan) which I got from Black Friday sales

My DH loves technology and gadgets and I am really busy getting organised for DC and hosting Christmas so he is buying his own selection of gadgets and I will wrap them for him!!! He will get one surprise (a new electric toothbrush) and his usual posh boxer shorts. That way he is happy and so am I - we hate getting the wrong thing as gifts and he always got the "cheaper" version of things he asked for as a kid so now he buys what he wants (obviously within a budget) and he is always thrilled.
Sorry I am no use to someone who wants to get their DH a surprise gift but tickets to see a favourite band or comedian are a suggestion.

Singlenotsingle · 28/11/2018 12:25

It was easy last year. His jacket had just fallen to bits so I bought him a new leather jacket. This year? I really don't know...

Annasgirl · 28/11/2018 12:26

BTW, I remember AA Gill (RIP) saying that good socks are the perfect gift as men never spend money on good socks so off I went and bought an expensive pair for DH and even though he was a bit nonplussed, he wears them every time he goes somewhere that he wants to look good!!! So socks are useful and special. DH would never spend money on expensive socks but he loves them.

Cutesbabasmummy · 28/11/2018 12:29

An Amazon Echo dot, a jumper t replace his favourite that got a hole in it, and probably dvd's cds. Not very exciting but he will get to play with DS's (nearly 4) presents too!

LimitIsUp · 28/11/2018 13:26

Annasgirl - as it happens, I have literally just bought 4 tickets for him to see Henning When (so he can take three friends too)

So far -
Kindle Fire because it seemed too good a bargain to miss!
T shirt
Shirt
Posh shaving stuff
Some books
Big bottle of Courvoisier
some tennis balls!

I'll do him a stocking which will be mostly full of beer, snacks and running gels plus some nice soap.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/11/2018 18:16

Oh and some Happy Socks.

Sarahlou63 · 28/11/2018 18:19

A stone cover for his Mac Air, a portable light box (suffers from SAD) and I’m going to get him a special gin glass and a bottle of Hendricks

EmmaJR1 · 28/11/2018 18:28

Falconry flying experience and some books on building camper vans and starting a business...

caringcarer · 28/11/2018 18:31

Two tickets for the Test Match cricket next summer when England take on the Ozzies at the Oval. He will love them so much. I have pushed boat out for this as very expensive.

Jonny Bairstow autobiography 'Under a Blue Sky'

A new rugby top

Star Wars air fresh for his car.

Walnut Whips

Socks and pants

I will make him '4 x I will get up early and walk the dogs vouchers' so he can have a lie in. He will appreciate those as he does early morning walks and we both do late evening ones.

I have got above but will add a couple more bits to it. He has not said what he wants yet.

rosablue · 29/11/2018 23:06

One year I got dh a unicycle that went down well. Quite tricky to hide and pack though Grin

Walnut whips go down well here too, especially if they have the nut on top. DH is getting more into playing music as he gets older so this year looking out for strange instruments (its a running joke that I'll get him a digeridoo - maybe this year I will...)

Intrigued to see that you have bought books on making camper vans - dh loving looks at many many vans online and dreams of converting them into a camper van so books of that ilk sound a great present in one respect - and dangerous in another if it should actually inspire him to do something about it!

5foot5 · 29/11/2018 23:25

I feel I am running out of good ideas for DH (60) Things that have gone down well over the years:

Raspberry pi

DVDs: Apollo missions

DVDs: Old Grey Whistle Test

Lego model of Saturn V

Digital map application

I am struggling this year. I have got him a lockpicking trainer set (thanks mumsnet, would never have thought of that without you) and have ordered a specialist board game. But it is his birthday early in the New Year so I have to get some more ideas.

LucheroTena · 30/11/2018 05:35

I have DH’s birthday and Christmas in the same month.

Birthday
New Timberlands
Single malt in posh bottle

Christmas
Sauvage (or sausage as we know it)
Wallet
London Sock Co box of socks and tie
T-shirts
Hotel Choc chocs

rosablue · 30/11/2018 05:59

Another thought - last year I got some bargainous hoodies from Saltrock - sweatshirt fabric with a fleecy furry lining that are really warm and cosy to wear.

Another year, as he takes ds to lots of sports practices or matches and often stays to watch I got him some fleece lined windproof walking trousers because he used to get really cold just standing watching. They went down really well and made a real difference, to the point that he went out and Poughkeepsie an even thicker more heavy duty warm and waterproof pair that are overtrousers so you can then go into the clubhouse and take them off so you don’t overheat. Plus I got him some decent thermal stuff that looks presentable as a top rather than looking like u derwear (Costco has some good stuff usually) and heathokders socks.

Amazingly until he got his none of the other parents wore anything other than a hat and scarf when it got really cold - now several of them have invested as it makes such a difference if you’re standing there for a couple of hours freezing or warm and toasty. The first ones I got were about £15 so not expensive and have had so much wear over the last few years they have been worth every penny, not to mention the keeping warm and dry aspect!

Blacktoffeecat · 30/11/2018 06:41

DH is getting a Hackett leather key ring,
days of the week socks, PJs, Star Wars Christmas socks, nice marmalade, lemon curd and jam, a bottle of gin, posh tonic and beers, coffee, hot chocolate, aftershave, a notebook and a new rucksack for hand luggage. Not that exciting but will all be used and enjoyed.

Chottie · 30/11/2018 06:46

My DP is really difficult to buy for too! He always says he doesn't want anything except to spend Christmas with me :)

I will get him some expensive aftershave and chocolate.

IDismyname · 30/11/2018 06:53

Socks
boxers
DVD of The Crown
1kg bag of M&Ms
Jeremy Clarkson book
‘Manly’ note let’s for Thank Yous.

I probably need to get some more

redfairy · 30/11/2018 07:23

DH was very enthusiastic about some walking sticks he found in an antiques centre so I may pop back and him one of those.

SatsukiKusakabe · 30/11/2018 17:05

A coat from M and S
The new Jonathan Coe novel
Couple of shirts
A new sports bag
Swimming goggles, micro fibre towel, socks, chocolates and ale for his stocking. I also got him a notepad that looks like an old SNES on the cover.

SatsukiKusakabe · 30/11/2018 17:07

Rosablue great idea! I was thinking of getting dh some handwarmers for this.

ifiwasabutterfly · 30/11/2018 17:52

Nothing yet - the thought of shopping for him makes me want to weep!

He is the most difficult person on the planet to buy for Sad
