I'm looking for some really good gin for DF, he's liked gin since way before it was trendy so doesn't need to be any fancy flavours. I know nothing about this stuff! I did see a website mentioned on a gift thread and screenshot it but can't find it anywhere
Thanks Gin

I really like Blackwoods. I don't know how high end it is but it's probably the one I'd be most pleased about if someone decided to buy me a bottle of nice gin.

If you're ever anywhere near John Lewis on Oxford Street the staff in the alcohol dept are very knowledgeable and would talk you through some options.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/11/2018 18:53

www.northumberlandginco.com

My son loves this.

Craft Gin Club are very good too, guns come with suitable mixers etc.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/11/2018 18:54

Gins NOT guns. Bloody hell, I type as if I've been drinking!!!

JakeBallardswife · 18/11/2018 18:55

Monkey 47
Or Cotswold gin both good

HRTpatch · 18/11/2018 18:56

Blackwoods here too...got it for £20 in Sainsburys.

Chocolatebourbons · 18/11/2018 18:58

Gin Mare - it's divine.

thinkfast · 18/11/2018 18:59

Old bakery him is amazing

Ricekrispie22 · 18/11/2018 19:00

Why not get a gin taster set? www.masterofmalt.com/tasting-set/drinks-by-the-dram/deluxe-gin-tasting-set/

XiCi · 18/11/2018 19:00

If I was buying a good quality, traditional gin I would buy something like Tanqueray 10 or The Botanist. Tanqueray 10 is on sale at Amazon for a bargain £25 at the moment.

I really like Edinburgh Gin.... currently got the rhubarb and ginger one, it's very special. They have a Christmas one that could be nice as a gift......... www.edinburghgin.com/our-gins

XiCi · 18/11/2018 19:02

Or if you wanted to spend a bit more Costco's gin advent calendar has some fabulous gins included and is £60.

everygalaxy · 18/11/2018 19:03

Try Nelson’s - it’s made in Staffordshire in very small amounts, it’s delicious and comes in a nice bottle.

Martin Millers is a crisp taste and made with artic water so I always think it’s winter appropriate!

Monkey47 if he likes a strong gin. Portobello Road if he is a martini drinker.

Wormwoodm · 18/11/2018 19:05

Monkey 47 is lovely but expensive, I also went to a gin tasting and loved little bird.
A gin I really enjoy and is a lot cheaper than the others I mentioned is Brecon gin.

KitNCaboodle · 18/11/2018 19:06

Monkey 47
Gin Mare

Current faves are Haymans and Eden Mill (St Andrews)

Randomusername01 · 18/11/2018 19:10

Was at a gin festival recently and sampled several all tasters. By far the nicest was a company called riverside. My favourites were the passion fruit, Parma violet, Turkish delight and salted caramel flavours.

everygalaxy · 18/11/2018 19:10

Is it for Christmas because Edinburgh do a Christmas gin with frankincense?

BlancheM · 18/11/2018 19:16

Wow I wasn't expecting any responses, I have some research to do then! Thank you
Yes it's for Christmas. Maybe this will be the year I finally get my impossible to please dad something he likes...

Tarquins, which also have beautiful bottles. Dover31 is a great mail order business who frequently thrown in freebies like glasses or Toni.

Brokenribses · 18/11/2018 19:49

I love Gunsmoke gin, an Irish gin distilled in Leitrim. You can get it from Ocado and presumably Waitrose. Don't forget some good tonic water as well.

LizzieMacQueen · 18/11/2018 19:57

A 2nd vote for Cotswolds gin. It is very smooth.

Brokenribses · 18/11/2018 19:59

Just to add, if he is a long time gin afficionado I'd stick to original type gins. The flavoured ones are a more recent thing and it may be a bit of a gamble.

Mbear · 18/11/2018 20:00

My DH loves Sibling Gin, they are local to us though so he can sample them at the local town market when they are there. If not Ophir is lovely.

sittingonacornflake · 18/11/2018 20:01

Tarquins is lovely

RJnomore1 · 18/11/2018 20:05

If you want a nice simple gin then caorunn is lovely and light.

I wouldn't go Xmas gin or rhubarb or anything if he's a traditional gin drinker.

Or as someone else said the botanist is lovely. I also sampled a lovely Barra Gin yesterday which is pretty traditional but really good and im sure they sell online.
