Sorry if this has been covered already but... What are your Christmas chocolate recommendations?

I like having some in the house over Christmas for movie nights and general treats but for some reason (palm oil?) I have gone off Cadbury, nestle, green and blacks and hotel Chocolat.

Please share your gluttonous favourites!

Thorntons is also dreadful now.
We like the lindt balls here

QueenOfIce · 16/10/2018 23:25

M&S chocolate is quite nice, I like their chocolate coins.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/10/2018 23:35

There's a Lindt shop near us where you can fill a big box up with your choice of chocolates, pick and mix style.

BrokenWing · 17/10/2018 00:13

I tried some milk chocolate mint lindt balls tonight, sweet but very nice.

Cherryrainbow · 17/10/2018 00:52

Kinder eggs haha they have xmas ones out atm either large egg or Santa shaped.

PaulMorel · 17/10/2018 06:47

We usually like the basic chocolate candies like M&M's, Hersheys, Cadbury etc and we will just add some decor to make it nice and cute for Christmas.

butcherswife · 17/10/2018 11:44

I'm going to buy from here this year, but expensive and a bit naughty but it is christmas after all Grin

Although i have just looked and so many are sold out! Will have to keep an eye out for when the nice looking ones are back in stock!

LGFuad · 17/10/2018 11:47

The unfilled Aldi Choceur range doesn't have palm oil. I hadn't realised how disgusting palm oil is until I tried this because I think I had got used to the taste - the Aldi one is delicious and the only chocolate I will eat now!

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/10/2018 17:29

I forgot about Lindt. We have one of their shops too.

I will also be trying the Aldi chocolate too. Im pretty sure it's the palm oil that has put me off chocolate recently.

Hotel Chocolat don’t use palm oil do they?!

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/10/2018 18:08

Yes, I think they do now.

Just had a look at the ingredients lists of a few of the Hotel Chocolat products I like. It looks like some of their filled chocolates have palm oil but not all, and it’s not listed as an ingredient in their solid chocolate.

Unfortunately their Christmas chocolate selection does seem to have it :(

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/10/2018 19:19

No idea why I've gone off hotel Chocolat then. I blamed the palm oil but maybe it's my aging taste buds.

Montezumas are much nicer than Hotel Chocolat

Drummingisfun · 18/10/2018 13:00

If you can get hold of it, get Tonys chocolonely in the seasalted caramel and coffee crunch flavours. A bar doesn't last long though Blush

BrokenWing · 18/10/2018 19:23

As an ex cadbury lover I bought this yesterday. Can't decide if I like it or not or if I've still just pissed of with them for changing dairymilk.

£1.50 for a 85g bar. A bit darker than dairy milk but no palm oil, and I find this patronising to their customers

Cadbury has launched a new version of its famous Dairy Milk bar, Darkmilk, which the confectioner claims has a “more grown up taste” than its regular chocolate

Anyone else tried yet?

Lindt shop at Bluewater pick&mix

I don't like the red ones though .

Inthetropics · 18/10/2018 20:59

I love Guylian sea creatures filled with praliné

duckling84 · 18/10/2018 21:17

Aldi after dinner mint thins and orange thins, mint chocolate crisps (kinda look like Pringles but they are chocolate),

Asda belgium dark chocolate honeycomb

Go ahead dark chocolate pretzel bites

Raspberry ruffles (like fruit creams, sold in b&m and like)

Now I can't comment on the palm oil issues as I don't know if they contain it or not, but all the above are vegan friendly so can still be consumed guilt free 💚

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2018 21:50

Ohh I love Raspberry Ruffles but the small 'chocolates' size is nicer than the bar (The bars are drier)
Not had them for years !

WhyDoesItAlways · 18/10/2018 22:13

This is brilliant, thank you all. I think there's only thing for it - taste test!

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2018 22:57

Xmas Grin there's just over 9 weeks so you could taste test a couple of things a week till you've made your final selection.

I am still on Stoptober (no sweets etc) , not even tempted by the Hallowe'en stash (well that's a lie, I am tempted but I have inserted my Balls of Steel )

ritzbiscuits · 19/10/2018 02:30

I'd definitely look at Aldi chocolate, Moser Roth is lovely. You can get 5 x thin bars of choc in a larger packet in all sorts of flavours + milk/dark/white.
