Sorry if this has been covered already but... What are your Christmas chocolate recommendations?

I like having some in the house over Christmas for movie nights and general treats but for some reason (palm oil?) I have gone off Cadbury, nestle, green and blacks and hotel Chocolat.

Please share your gluttonous favourites!

Ferraro Rocher

Shadow1234 · 19/10/2018 03:47

After eights
Mint and orange matchmakers
Chocolate Brazil nuts
Chocolate raisins
Chocolate peanuts
Ferrero Rocher
Caramac (my all time favourite)
Frys chocolate cream (plus the mint flavour as well)

Orangecake123 · 19/10/2018 15:22

All I want for christmas is Ferrero Rocher!!

happysunr1se · 19/10/2018 18:20

I've tried that cadburys darkmilk. I was hoping it was going to be like green and black milk chocolate I.e. a stronger richer cocoa flavour but it tasted like bourneville to me.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2018 18:28

My DH only eats white chocolate - so White Toblerone for him. Many some of those Minis?
Maybe the Terrys chocolate orange segments

I found a recipe for Scottish Tablet , I fancy giving that a try .

WhyDoesItAlways · 19/10/2018 18:47

What is Scottish tablet?

I forgot about ferrero rocher and matchsticks. Both good choices.

Already got some chocolate orange when they were down to 75p in Tesco.

Shame about the dark Cadbury, might just have to give it a try though!

Intrigued by Montezuma and Godiva, never had them before.

Monty Bojangles truffles are delicious!

GhoulMythicalMoooaning · 19/10/2018 20:08

Chocolate oranges are rubbish these days. Tiny and greasy and the orange isnt so good.

GhoulMythicalMoooaning · 19/10/2018 20:08

Monty bojangles are amazing!

BrokenWing · 20/10/2018 10:10

Last choclate orange I had was 2 years ago and it was waxy and horrible too. ☹️

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 20/10/2018 10:19

I love Guylian sea creatures filled with praliné

Me too. Lidl have their own version, half the price and I can't taste the difference!

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 20/10/2018 10:20

Chocolate Oranges are disgusting now, we like the Lindt Orange balls as an alternative.

Isadora2007 · 20/10/2018 10:23

what is Scottish tablet?

It’s like crumbly fudge. A traditional Scottish after meal treat... you only need a tiny square or two as it’s very sweet.

WhyDoesItAlways · 22/10/2018 08:20

Oh no. Glad the chocolate oranges were cheap then!

Scottish tablet sounds interesting, will look it up.

Guylian seashells
Lindt lindor hazelnut, orange or mint
The new Malteser truffles
Booja booja truffles
Kinder bonbons
The new gingerbread matchsticks
Lily o briens dessert collection
Forerro Raffaello

I second Tonys chocolonely.

It's absolutely delicious.
It's also ethically sound.

(wikipedia link
tldr; - almost all chocolate manufacturers use slave labour, including child slaves. Tonys chocolonely was set up when the founder wasn't able to get the existing companies to stop. An importer actually tried to sue them for reputational damage because 'slave-free chocolate is impossible to produce'. Tony's won)

Unfortunately, it isn't available in the UK yet. (It's Dutch). But should be early next year. When it is, go crazy!!! and consider this a perfect excuse for a pre-Christmas trip to Amsterdam in the meantime...

OnlyGlowingSlightly · 22/10/2018 08:42

Sorry - hope that doesn't kill the thread!

PasswordRejection · 22/10/2018 15:34

I don't recommend godiva, also really Palm oil testing Sad

The Liner bars are delicious. I find only dark chocolate tastes like really chocolate now. Lindt do a lovely sea salt caramel bar.

WhyDoesItAlways · 22/10/2018 15:58

I got a bar of Lindt sea salt caramel for my birthday yesterday so very much looking forward to trying that.

I went to a hotel Chocolat outlet today and they had a taste test of their salted caramel button which tasted disgusting and we're £6 for a tiny bag....in an outlet!

I love the Sea Salt Lindt (not tried the salted caramel)

I'm planning to go to the Lindt shop and get the Pick&Mix for the DC and some of the Christmas character chocolates.

I've not tried the mint ones yet but the orange ones are delish .

Gentlygently · 22/10/2018 21:59

Is there a Lindt shop in the UK? I normally get pick and mix only in Switzerland!

Lidl chocolate is delicious.

Justmuddlingalong · 22/10/2018 22:04

Yes. There's a store locator on their website. My phone's acting up so can't download it.

WhyDoesItAlways · 22/10/2018 22:34

They have a Lindt shop at most McArthur glen outlets. They do good offers on their bars - I think 3 for £5. Not sure how much the pick n mix is.

I really don't like Lindt chocolate. Agreed that Cadburys is vile now, I don't buy it any more which is a huge thing for me to say!

Aldi chocolate is nice (not the economy stuff, it breaks your teeth but the stuff in a blue wrapper).

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 23/10/2018 12:36

I'd had to go to my vending machine at work and grab some choclate thanks to this thread haha!

my xmas treat cupboard currently consists of;
celebrations
terrys (which gone slimier these days?)
chocolate salted salted fudge
columbian 85% chocolate from a chocolatier in leek
