Nativity set

I’m hosting Christmas for the first time ever this year, and getting very excited! One thing I’d like to add to my existing decorations is a nativity set. Any favourites anyone could recommend? Or ideas for homemade ones (maybe knitted)? I’d love to see photos if you have them but appreciate it’s probably a bit early for that!

Hobbycraft although you will need to decorate it or Lakeland.

CarrotVan · 21/08/2018 09:05

There are some very cute ones here including Lanka Kade and some that look like weebles

CarrotVan · 21/08/2018 09:08

The nativity set at my parents' house has an aardvark, a frog, a ghost, at least one pig, a lion and a turtle - along with all the traditional figures.

They insistence on using all the random stuff we added/made as children. There's a disembodied punk's head made out of fimo on the tree every year

I have an olive wood set from eBay. There were loads of different ones but personally went for very simple figures a bit like These but I have whole set.
I also have a set of nativity plastic ducks for the bath which make me smile.

I'm definitely getting the Lakeland one. I hope the shepherds keep their bonfire out of the stable, though.

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 31/08/2018 15:40

Humph! I went to buy the lovely Lakeland advent one today off the back of this thread (the page linked above had previously said it would be available from 29th August), and now it says page unknown. Gah.

This had better be teething problems with their change over to their full Christmas catalogue or I will be most miffed.

mrs2468 · 31/08/2018 22:20

@GreenthoughtInAGreenShade I went to buy it today too and got the same. Hopefully come back in stock soon

CherryPavlova · 31/08/2018 22:33

We have several. Our most suitable centre piece is our Willow tree one with several add ons that is the first thing that greets people as they come through the front door. We had the basic set but then added an angel for each child and a set of shepherds and three Kings.

We have a nativity we bought in Naples that is like a dolls house and added to over the years.

We have a full set of Christmas tree baubles that are nativity characters and olive tree ones from Jerusalem.

Then we have a very basic wooden scene that was the play nativity that the children could touch, rearrange and play with. Simple wooden characters with a little stable.

I want nativity plastic ducks! Where are they from?

Tiggles · 01/09/2018 01:00

Search nativity ducks on eBay
At the moment there is only an imperfect set and a set from the states but may be nearer to Christmas they may get more?

OpalTree · 01/09/2018 01:04

I've got a knitted one my MIL knitted that is identical to the one Woollyback posted on the first page.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/09/2018 13:57

The Lakeland one will be in stock on the 10th, I emailed and asked Blush

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 01/09/2018 14:55

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername - you’re brilliant, thank you!

mrs2468 · 01/09/2018 15:17

Calendar reminder set for 10th Smile

Hedgyhoggy · 01/09/2018 15:46

Fab! I’ve been looking for the Lakeland one. I’m keeping my eye out for a discount now.

WillowB · 01/09/2018 23:26

Another vote for the Lakeland one.
We've had it for the past two years and its already become part of our Christmas traditions. DS can't wait every morning to open a drawer. He prefers it to his chocolate calendar!
It was fairly pricey but worth it. I bought my nephew one as a christening gift last year.

73kittycat73 · 02/09/2018 01:05

I can't find the Lakeland one anymore and really wanted it. Sad The link takes me to a 'We're sorry, we can't find the page you wanted...' and if I search 'Nativity' it doesn't come up. Sad

mrs2468 · 02/09/2018 01:11

@73kittycat73 update is that will be available 10th sep

73kittycat73 · 02/09/2018 03:05

Aww thank you mrs2468 ! Xmas Grin Is there a new link?

mrs2468 · 02/09/2018 07:09

Not yet I don't think

princessbear80 · 02/09/2018 07:41

Thank you UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername! I would have been really disappointed to find my perfect nativity and then it not be available!

Still no sign of the nativity being online yet Shock

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 10/09/2018 13:17

I checked the email again (after I went to buy it earlier!) and they said 'the week starting the 10th'. So I'm going to check every day.

mrs2468 · 10/09/2018 13:33

Thanks for the update fingers crossed for this week

LetItGoToRuin · 10/09/2018 13:39

A bit late to this thread... we have this one: Christmas Cribs. All handmade in the UK. Very expensive - we have been given an item or two each year for several years, and it is now just about complete. We love it!
