Nativity set

I’m hosting Christmas for the first time ever this year, and getting very excited! One thing I’d like to add to my existing decorations is a nativity set. Any favourites anyone could recommend? Or ideas for homemade ones (maybe knitted)? I’d love to see photos if you have them but appreciate it’s probably a bit early for that!

I can't find a nice one!! My dm had a lovely wooden one in the shape of a Christmas tree with little shelves for all the characters, it was a modern style; and my dsis has a pottery one with little tiny cartoon sort of figures. All I can find are horrible churchy looking ones.

Marmite27 · 12/08/2018 21:48

My mother and I have the willow tree one.

I like it because Mary is holding Jesus. All the other ones I saw he’s in the manger. Mums hold their newborns!

I’ve been on the hunt for at least five years and haven’t found anything I like kenandbarbie. Those two you described sound nice!

The playmobil sets are lovely if you’ve got kids or relatives children who would like to play.

LlamaPyjamas · 12/08/2018 21:59

I collect the Alessi nativity characters. I bought the main nativity with stable and Mary/Jesus/Joseph, and every year DH buys me one more character to add to it.

princessbear80 · 12/08/2018 22:09

Thanks will look into Willow Tree and Alessi - thanks marmite and llama.

Isadora I might get a playmobile one too for my little boy!

We have a happyland one for the kids!

Stompythedinosaur · 12/08/2018 22:33

We have the playmobil one too.

Good for the kids (but not beautiful).

TheWoollybacksWife · 12/08/2018 23:18

I made this knitted one a few years ago for the Woolly Hugs Christmas sale.

There are loads of nativity sets on this website. I have a children's set that I bought in a garden centre when DD1 was a baby. It's 20+ years old now. I'm coveting the Willow Tree set too.

I also have the Willow Tree one!

TheSandgroper · 13/08/2018 02:19

You should be able to find one here. www.magellantraders.com/View-All-Nativity-Sets-from-Around-the-World_c_138.html

I really, really want the matchbox one, except I already have quite enough. I do love them, though.

I got my nativity set from this place. It is gorgeous and I love unpacking it each year. The wood is very tactile. www.wonderinwood.co.uk/othernativities.html

I have a tiny set of french Feves. Bought them recently so thinking of buying/making a stable to display them in.

They're really cute, the standing figures are about 1 inch.

DM collects nativities so we've got them from all over but last year we got a really lovely Lanka Kade one that will be DSs.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 13/08/2018 12:41

We have a matryoshka set that go King-Joseph-Mary-Angel-Donkey-Jesus. The kids love it.

princessbear80 · 13/08/2018 13:49

Thank you some lovely ideas here. Woolly your knitted one is amazing!

We’ve got the Beleek one. I’m a bit nonplussed at the PP only being able to find horrible churchy nativity sets!
Do you understand what the Nativity is? Confused

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/08/2018 19:08

Belleek

WutheringTights · 13/08/2018 23:49

We got this one from John Lewis a few years ago. It's beautiful.

Oh woe betide a nativity that looks to 'churchy.' Hmm

PurpleTigerLove · 14/08/2018 00:29

Great Little Trading company have a gorgeous felt one . Or they used to

PurpleTigerLove · 14/08/2018 00:33

The woollybackswife , that is amazing . Really beautiful

EPPM · 14/08/2018 00:43

We have the Haba one. It's wooden, very robust (my children have played with it for years) and just gorgeous looking.

Oldpossumsbook · 14/08/2018 10:31

I’ve got this one from Lakeland. It’s base is an advent calendar, so you take a character out each day and build up the nativity scene. Love it!

I've got the Lakeland one too. I love it. Building the Nativity scene as you go along is lovely.
