Christmas songs you can't bear?

I'm sure it's been done hundreds of times but which festive songs do you hate? I'm listening to a Christmas playlist and had to run from another room to stop "When A Child Is Born" by Johnnie Mathis. It actually makes my skin crawl. And the Jackson's version of Santa Claus is coming to town hurts my ears. So which ones send you running for the off switch?

All of them with the exception The Poges and Band-Aid.

Fairytale of New York. I just don't get why it's so popular.

And also slades Merry Christmas. The shouting at the end. Just no

Frogletmamma · 10/12/2017 12:23

That Destinys child one which is so commercial. Her honey buys her jewellery and mercedes and she loves him 'for his genorosity'. Surely not what Christmas is about

PantPlot · 10/12/2017 12:23

The Slade one. It's just such a horrible tune.

crunchtime · 10/12/2017 12:24

i wish it could be christmas everyday

i really don't wish that at all

endehors · 10/12/2017 12:27

Yes, the Slade song!

PsychoPumpkin · 10/12/2017 12:28

Baby it’s cold outside. Creepy, pushy, yuck.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 10/12/2017 12:28

All the canned pap played in supermarkets.

TroysMammy · 10/12/2017 12:30

Slade and Wizzard. If I hear either of them playing as I walk into a shop, I'll turn around and walk out. I'm so glad I don't work in retail.

NinonDeLenclos · 10/12/2017 12:31

Rudolf, the Pogues, So this is Christmas (John Lennon)

TobleroneBoo · 10/12/2017 12:32

Another for Fairytale of New York

It seemed to be the alternative choice, then it was everybodies choice for being " different" so much so that it became generic...

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/12/2017 12:34

@PsychoPumpkin Agreed. I was thinking just that this morning. Especially the Tom Jones version.

PsychoPumpkin · 10/12/2017 12:38

Yes he tom Jones version is awful, he sounds like such a letch and the woman sounds like a breathy 10 year old girl.

theredjellybean · 10/12/2017 12:42

right now having a slightly sad time ...so hate all of them

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/12/2017 12:46

@theredjellybean Sorry to hear that, I hope things look up for you soon.

OP posts:
crumpet · 10/12/2017 12:48

Nope. I rather think I love the lot. Some more than others, of course Xmas Smile

AnonEvent · 10/12/2017 12:51

I agree with
And also slades Merry Christmas. The shouting at the end. Just no

I am tense through the song, waiting for that hateful shouting.

TossDaily · 10/12/2017 12:54

Mariah Carey warbling 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'.

Kylie perving her way through 'Santa Baby' yuk.

Frigging Shakin' Stevens. I mean why do we play that shit?

And 'Baby It's Cold Outside' known in our house as 'The Date Rape Song'.

Hedgyhoggy · 10/12/2017 12:59

E17 so droney yet jingly at the same time

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/12/2017 13:05

They're all eighties/ nineties, really, aren't they?

Did people listen to Christmas songs before then? Or was it just the odd one here or there?

eloisesparkle · 10/12/2017 13:07

Last Christmas
and
All I Want Fir Christmas Is You

mogmum · 10/12/2017 13:19

All of them.....( I work in retail so that's my excuse)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/12/2017 13:22

That Chris de Burgh spaceman rubbish. Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah. AAAAARRRRGGGHH!!!

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2017 13:32

Last Christmas is the worst. Like a plodding nursery rhyme.

And Slade. Comes wIth all the expectation that you're meant to love it and sing along.

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2017 13:33

I work in retail so that's my excuse.

God, that must be unbearable.
