Christmas songs you can't bear?

I'm sure it's been done hundreds of times but which festive songs do you hate? I'm listening to a Christmas playlist and had to run from another room to stop "When A Child Is Born" by Johnnie Mathis. It actually makes my skin crawl. And the Jackson's version of Santa Claus is coming to town hurts my ears. So which ones send you running for the off switch?

I loathe Fairytale of New York so much that I have to physically switch channels or radio stations when it comes on. Just awful.

I also loathe fairytale of New York.
But not as much as I loathe 'Santa, baby'. It sets my teeth to grinding!

How many shops can you get to after your phone is charged? Spend ten minutes in each and count how many are playing Wonderful Christmastime.

I didn’t see this until too late! I will begin my research tomorrow.

I can still, just about listen to Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin' Stevens, but it's wearing pretty thin.

Especially that last lurch of a key change at the end. [santa]

East17 Stay - not sure why the added the jingle bells as it's not really a Christmassy song. To top of off, Brian Harvey's voice really grates on me - he sings through his nose and his pitch is all over the place (usually flat).

I love the E17 one, it’s so naff! The video with them in white bubble jackets and medallions is brilliant.

Can I add The Darkness if it hasn’t already been mentioned? It makes my ears bleed.

Driving home for Christmas- spent too many years working in retail listening to Christmas songs on a loop for 12 hours a day!

Unfortunately my children love Christmas songs - the 2 eldest made a playlist back in November and every opportunity they have they play it! I'm constantly being reminded of working in Dorothy Perkins in 1990 and lots of other Christmas jobs and hideous clothes!

All remind me of people I wish were here and sadly cannot be here anymore.

Any traditional carol/song that's been mucked about in a 'new arrangement' and/or sung by some celeb singer who thinks they're improving it by putting in twiddly bits and breathy 'emotion'.

I even heard a mucked about Jingle Bells the other day, but that's not as bad as a lovely traditional carol murdered by someone deluded enough to think they can do it better.

-The Power of Love. It’s so dreary.
-Santa Baby. Especially Kylie’s extra breathy version.
-Baby it’s cold outside. He’s a creep.
-Wonderful Christmas Time. Irritating background noise in it.
-Band Aid. I admit the only thing more annoying than this song is trying to listen to it with me adding in ‘the facts’ after each line:
“Where nothing ever grows”
‘Pfft except tea, cotton, sugar, coffee...’
“No rain or rivers flow”
‘Yeah because rainy season isn’t a thing and the Nile doesn’t exist and anyway, Africa is a whole continent not a little village full of your stereotypes’

Oh yes, Mistletoe and Wine - I was going to say dire is not the word, but dire IS the word.

Sodding Chris De Burgh. I was dragged to his concerts as a child - i even went to one in utero - and loathe anything by him. This fact is so traumatic that I had blocked it out and thought Status Quo was the first gig I went to, until my parents reminded me otherwise.

I also dislike I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and Blue Christmas.

I do love Driving Home For Christmas and Carol of the Bells (the Marillion version is beautiful).

I think it would be easier to start a thread about good Christmas songs.

Also the song that goes ‘merry Christmas, merry Christmas, and I think I’ll miss this one this year.’ My friend says she thinks it’s called Christmas wrapping (and yes, wrapping with a W, I’m not being uncool). I can’t fucking stand it.
