This thread is for Christmas 'snobs'.
Proud to be one. 🎩🎅
So if you're not a fan of elf on the shelf or excessive mountains of tat this is where you can hang out and be safe from discussion of boots 3 for 2 gift sets.

Only on Mumsnet would one find 'Christmas snobs'

Just so grateful my own circle of friends love to celebrate and let their hair down.

Perhaps you should all start worrying about things that really matter????

JonSnowsWhore · 21/10/2017 08:15

Who’s paying that much for an Elf?? £3.99 round ‘ere! I don’t have that elf though he’s creepy & looks like he’d murder you in your sleep. I have a friendlier looking elf Grin

NoMapOfMyHead · 21/10/2017 08:41

The elf snobs jon

poppl · 21/10/2017 08:56

I don't see anyone here going on the Elf on the shelf threads to piss all over them

So why come and whine on this thread? Not your thing? Don't click!

AnonEvent · 21/10/2017 09:03

Any Londoners on the thread? Have you booked a carol service or similar? I don't think I can do the Nutcracker again, we've done it for the past 3 years.

I haven't been for a couple of years - but the Carol Service at Southwark Cathedral (beside Borough Market) was lovely.

We're looking for a more local one this year and apparently there's a good but lo fi one in the church behind Abbeville Rd in Clapham, I think it's called the Church of the Holy Spirit. Mind you, they do encourage children to dress as angels or wise men, which may not live up to my snobbish credentials.

Gowgirl · 21/10/2017 09:08

Our local church does carols in the porch before midnight mass.
I might make ds 11 come with me this year.

PesoisaTool · 21/10/2017 09:17

I love:
Midnight Mass
Carols
Christingle
Singing
Smell of real Christmas tree 🎄
Smell of tinsel
Baileys
Crap TV
Playing silly games
Seeing family
Time off work
Christmas songs
Build up

I hate:
Writing Christmas cards
Elf on the bastard shelf
Houses with inflatable crap outside
Xmas - lazy
Christmas cake - bleurgh

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2017 09:56

NORTH POLE BREAKFAST - you can fuck off!

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2017 10:01

Here we are:

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/10/2017 10:18

Every year my most treasured Christmas decoration comes down from the loft and sits on top of the toilet cistern ......it's a plastic bath tub with Father Christmas in a bubble bath with a lady. Whenever the toilet seat is lifted it bursts into song and they start dancing in the tub 😂😂

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/10/2017 10:19

Meant to add as a teen I absolutely hated this dec, it was mums sense of humour, she loved it. And now she's 91, and in a home with dementia I love it too

JonSnowsWhore · 21/10/2017 10:25

What’s a North Pole breakfast? Sounds like I might like it Grin

Scabbersley · 21/10/2017 10:50

It's been really interesting how this thread has rattled people.

It can't be anything to do with money as I am always Shock at the amount people who are Not Snobby spend on absolute crap at Christmas.

The Christmas season doesn't start here until I have listened to dd2 singing in the choir at our local Abbey.

Absolutely no crafts.

Woman, you are stone cold.

Scabbersley · 21/10/2017 11:01

When our village church has a few local children to be angels in their nativity, they specify NO fairy or princess costumes and NO WINGS

AnonEvent · 21/10/2017 11:09

museum I'm stone cold with a smile on my face.

Polly99 · 21/10/2017 11:19

what is a Christmas Eve box??

Montacute · 21/10/2017 11:25

It's a confessional box that the entire family climbs into on Christmas Eve in order to contemplate the solemnity as well as the joy of the season. Farts and garlic breath must be left outside.

MuseumOfCurry · 21/10/2017 11:33

I can't tell if you're joking.

whiskyowl · 21/10/2017 11:35

Can I just register my one-woman protest against the extreme tackiness of blue Christmas lights, I HATE THEM.

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/10/2017 11:48

In the month leading up to Christmas OH is cramming foodChristmas themed food tat into lorries at the warehouse for a major UK retailer working up to 14 hours a day for 7 days straight in the final week.
He comes home after the final lorry has left the depot on Christmas Eve and falls asleep until mid morning on Christmas day.

We have a bog standard Sunday lunch on Christmas day. Neither of us likes turkey.
Then he goes off to bed at 8.30pm to be up and off at stupid o'clock to start cramming more food into lorries for their shops.

PodgeBod · 21/10/2017 11:58

I'm far too tacky for this thread but I'd love to know where Whisky2014 buys tree baubles for £50 a pop. For that price they had better be gorgeous. Any links?

A1Sharon · 21/10/2017 12:38

Not £50, but certainly above the average, Liberty.
I do usually buy one or two expensive decorations a year, I've got a nice collection going now.
Last year I had a lovely glass rocking horse I'd bought, not expensive but not bloomin' cheap either, and DS was desperate to carry it downstairs. It was in bubble wrap in a box. He dropped it down the stairs and broke it! A big hole around the back.
