Is Janet & Roy still a thing?

My parents still talk about the one they received in 2014! It still completely puzzles them (I've never come clean it's just too funny that all the family still talk about it).

If there are any Aussies on this thread...or people with friends or rellies in Oz just shout out, I'll be happy to send them a card from Janet and Roy Down Under.

Thank you Llama, I have to confess I’ve cribbed a lot from others posters letters. DH is posting mine today as he has a meeting in a random place far from home. I’m hoping the postmark will put my SIL off the scent. We’re at hers on the 29th, I wonder if she will be expecting Janet & Roy? I think she might guess it’s me though 😞

Oh this would be brilliant for FIL! He goes all over in his motor home, if I find out some recent locations would anyone write one for him?

I’m happy to give it a try, do you want to PM with some places or anything you want mentioning. Mine is in the first person as I wrote it with someone in mind. I can try doing it in the third person. I tried to write in a pompous style, it’s not how normally communicate btw😂

My wonderfully-written one from ruby1234 arrived last week and was a great last success.

We had lunch out with the recipients yesterday and they brought it along to show us as it had puzzled them so much. Both of them were convinced at first that it must have been a friend of the other's that the other had forgotten. They have an elderly cousin called Roy whom they've never been very good at keeping in touch with, although his wife definitely wasn't called Janet. They wondered whether he had perhaps remarried and they hadn't heard?

Then they did some Googling and found the mumsnet threads. Still though, they somehow amazingly didn't suspect me! In fact they were thoroughly convinced it must have been some other friends of theirs who have a vague link with the place it was posted from. They said they were about to message these friends to say they'd love to meet up before Xmas but were afraid they wouldn't be able to as they were unexpectedly going to stay with Janet and Roy instead.

At that point I had to come clean and they thought it was a brilliant joke! They're now planning to send off a few of their own before Xmas...

This would be wonderful if I didn't know my DF would probably report it and my DM would lose several nights sleep piecing together who TF Janet and Roy were 😂
