Autumn is my favourites season!

Xmas Grin

When the DC go back to school (though my baby will be going into Yr 11 - gulp, how the Dickens did that happen !) so I don't have the annual buying of warm jumpers and lunchboxes, just a I'm not wearing that skirt its practically a shroud versus You're not wearing that skirt it's practically a belt ........but this will be the last Uniform Buying Year for us.

When the geese fly overhead in their formations.
When Lakeland Limited and John Lewis and M&S start stocking their Christmas wares.
When my guinea-pigs fur thickens and they look judgily at their run and demand I scissor cut grass for them. And I'm planning how I'm going to cosy up their house and clear the small bedroom of tat for their winter night cages.
Getting my beloved Woollovers sweaters out (this year will be their 4th year I think)
Oggling winter shoes
Conkers on trees
My gorgeous Boston Creeper going red
Hallowe'en - my 2nd favourite time of year (though it has only a day to cram everything in. I'm already planning it )

NoWordForFluffy · 22/07/2017 20:12

We get LOADS of geese over our way as we've a wetland centre up the road where all the Icelandic geese head to for a warmer winter.

Strictly + geese = winter / Christmas on the way!

randomer · 22/07/2017 20:20

Doesn't anybody feel it's a colossal waste of money.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/07/2017 20:32

Randomer, first you turn up on the bargain thread and attempt to piss on people's chips, now you're on this thread trying to do the same thing.

If buying / giving people presents, planning for Christmas and enjoying the season of goodwill really aren't your bag, then I suggest you bugger off out of the Christmas part of Mumsnet as it really isn't for you. Nobody asks you to join us in here and your Scrooge-like presence really won't be missed!

Bah sodding humbug!

OhOurBilly · 22/07/2017 20:32

Just to confirn Randomer You're asking on the 'countdown to Christmas' thread, on the Christmas board, if we think Christmas is a waste of money?

🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁 😆😆

randomer · 22/07/2017 20:44

Thanks for your responses. I just don't get it. How people can feed excited aboutstuff obviously something lacking in my psyche

SideOrderofSprouts · 22/07/2017 20:48

Randomer. Fuck off.

You're ruining the festive vibes. If you don't like it go and ask if you are being unreasonable on aibu

We don't get excited over stuff. We get excited over atmosphere, spending the time with family, of the season in general, of the plans we can make.

OP posts:
SideOrderofSprouts · 22/07/2017 20:48

Obviously Christmas isn't a big deal for you. For us it is.

OP posts:
SideOrderofSprouts · 22/07/2017 20:50

There's always one. Every bloody year.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 22/07/2017 20:54

And this one just keeps on coming back again and again.

Honestly, if you don't get it, that's fine. But for the love of god, stop being the Christmas spirit dementor, sucking the joy out of our Christmas threads!

randomer · 22/07/2017 20:56

fuck off....
Nice

SideOrderofSprouts · 22/07/2017 21:00

Well why are you here? Apart from trolling.

OP posts:
randomer · 22/07/2017 21:05

Don't really know what that is.

SideOrderofSprouts · 22/07/2017 21:40

No of course you don't. Well I'm not
Giving you the satisfaction of any further engagement.

Just went through the Gift Shelf (and drawer), had forgotten about a pair of festive pjs for me that I put aside from the sales! I have all the gifts for my friends' kids which is great since they always seem to take ages to get.

It also seems I have quite the stockpile of Yankee Cinnamon candles!

Rudolph Day task for Tuesday is to go through my (many) Christmas cookbooks and gather together the recipes I'd like to try before Christmas.

Hubbabubbababy123 · 22/07/2017 22:08

Last years tree came from a farmers yard. Small but so full and smells amazing 🎄

Hubba you can never have too many Christmas plates! Where else are you going to put the mince pies, Christmas cake, Christmas cookies. Am now hungry.

By the way does anyone collect/use Spode Christmas Tree china?

VivaJen · 22/07/2017 22:14

Last year's tree

Hubbabubbababy123 · 22/07/2017 22:18

So beautiful viva! I never remember to take pics of the tree without a child or husband standing by it 😂

I have an entire Christmas plates, bowls, cake stands, mugs, serving plates, jugs, pepper salt etc set. It's bonkers. It comes out Dec 1 and goes back on Jan 6. It's in storage. Hubby thinks I am nuts 🙈

NoWordForFluffy · 22/07/2017 22:31

Ooh. Just opened my post from this week (I work away, but only 6 weeks' left!) and my Christmas decorations have arrived.

The reindeer are CUTE!

I have a bit of a Scandi theme going on. 🎄🎄🎄

Randomer person pretending to be another person is a SockPuppet.
A troll is someone who says something arsey just to get a response.

In answer to your question "Is it a colossal waste of money" (assuming you actually want an answer and aren't just Trolling).

It costs nothing to plan.
It is less expensive to plan and buy ahead as appropriate rather than dash about like a BlueArsedFly on the 23rd Dec.

There is no rule that I've ever heard of that says I HAVE to spend a load of money.
Christmas Dinner is basically a roast with extra bits (unless like us you're vegetarian when there's no roast)

My DC need PJs. I buy Winter ones for them , they'll wear till March/April.
We have Christmas Bedding that they'll use all over the festive period (the Winter bedding goes on early Nov for DD /early Dec for DS)

There's things I think are a waste of money like take-out coffee and cars that can go over 100mph when the speed limit prohibits it.

I don't go onto the Cars section and bitch about someone buying an Audi because it doesn't affect me in the slightest .

Have a Xmas Biscuit - I don't give them out willy nilly , enjoy it. Save you a bit of money on snacks.
