Neddle - my 9 & 13 year old have kindle fires and they have been great, but not linked to iPhones/ iPads in any way.
My 13 year old has been asking for an iPad since last year (we don't actually own one in our house at all) and I have decided that we will get her a mini one this year. She has a second hand iPhone, so it will make sense to have something that's linked.
If anyone knows of any deals, please let me know!

Notonthehighstreet this morning sent an email about Christmas shop opening. Not a bargain, but good for getting ideas.

I've just done an order on character.com, they have a few items in clearance and I managed to get 5 pairs of Pjs, 2 pairs of swim shorts and a t shirt for £25.60. Definitely worth a look.

iPads have been reduced on Black Friday - John Lewis is a good place to look as they price match and have good warranties. It's not very much though £10 or £20. iPad mini is about the same size as the kindle fire. I have the mini and bought DD the kids kindle. The kids kindle hasn't been as good as I thought. She can't access all the suitable programmes she watches on Amazon Fire to on the apps on the kindle so I ended up giving her the pass code to get to the adult section so she can watch appropriate stuff but it ruins the point. Also screen turned orange the other day and bought in May. By contrast my iPad is 4 at Christmas and fingers crossed still working.

DontStop DD who is nearly 6 loves her Lucy the Dog although she only plays with it sporadically. £27 is a high price for it though I think. I'm pretty sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere.

Probably no good for an October birthday present but my DDs Will be sharing this butterfly habitat kit for use in Spring. It may scratch the itch if your DD is desperate for a real pet? And you can buy as many replacement caterpillars as you like.

I think the home made craft drawers are a fantastic idea. I've never done them as a gift but we do now have craft drawers full of all kinds of stuff you can pick up cheaply and the DDs get far more play value out of those than ready made craft kits .
