What tops your tree and why?

We are tryong to decide on a tree topper, last year we used dd1's school made Angel, and I can't remember what we did previously. We also have in our decorations box a star and a shop bought angel (by my dad) which neither dp or I particularly like.

We're due to put the Tree up on Thursday. Dd1 has requested we use the star but I think it should be an Angel really. Just wondering what othsr people have. Also what happens when dc make toppers in school? Do they get priority for that year? What happens if both dc make a topper?

As PP said it represents the star of Bethlehem. It also has to be stupidly glittery and shiny so Santa can find the tree in the dark

But now I'm singing this is Halloween! And my DC are looking at me as if I've lost the plot. It's a good job I bought the DVD this year. I will educate them!

We have an angel because my nana died Xmas day 2006, and my brother was still quite young to understand heaven or angels, he took it to mean Nanna was now the Christmas angel. Can't get rid of it now!

Would love a jack tree topper though zombie that's really cool!

I made a big hessie bow out of leftover material. Quite impressed how it turned out. Did used to have a topped ds made but it crumbled during storage.

I underestimated the height of my ceiling again when choosing the tree and can't be arsed to cut it

An angel

We've got a large golden feathery bird. It's a nod to my love of Russian folklore - the Firebird is an excellent story, but anyway, I found this bird about 15 years ago in a shop and really liked it. So that's what we have.

Nothing because I am yet to find anything that doesn't fall off!

Zombie I used to have Jack on top of my black tree too. And matt black baubles to absorb light. Aaah happy goff Christmases...

Never realised there was so many variations! It's a star here. Growing up my mum occasionally had a fairy, or a bow for a smaller tree, but mostly a star. I'm on the hunt for a new one

I love some of these variations! Particularly Jack we have that one and I could easily convince dp, we also have Nightmare before Christmas baubles and soft decorations. Though I think I will have a good search for a nicer Angel, I too have fond memories of a family angel (probably from the 60's) and being excited to get it on the tree every year. Also the sadness one year when we got it out to find it had almost disintegrated.

I'm on the hunt for a new tree topper on Monday I think.
