When does your tree go up?

Do you have a special traditional time to put your tree and decorations up?
Ours always used to be Advent Sunday, after church, but my DD1's birthday is December 11th, so now we leave the decorations until after her celebrations. And everything comes down the day before I go back to work in January. I hate the first few days back after Christmas and it's even worse if the house is still trimmed up!

Christmas Eve - Bah humbug!!

BathshebaDarkstone · 28/08/2015 08:31

On Christmas Eve, because that's when we can be arsed to dig it out of our room. GrinBlush

When I lived at home my mum always insisted on having the tree up for her birthday on 1st December Wink

Seriouslyffs · 28/08/2015 08:33

Weekend before Christmas, occasionally the one before that if Christmas Day is very early in the week.
And I definitely keep it up until 12th Night, and religiously put the lights on first thing and switch them off as I go to bed.

Floralnomad · 28/08/2015 08:34

Ours goes up the first weekend in December , outside lights are done the last weekend in November as they are turned on on December 1st . We do take it all down fairly promptly though and definitely before New Year .

cherrybakewelltart · 28/08/2015 08:35

Up December 1st, down January 1st Smile

QforCucumber · 28/08/2015 08:43

First weekend in December, down 1st weekend after new year

wigglesrock · 28/08/2015 08:44

Up around the 10th December, down usually the 29th/30th December. the crib stays out until the 6th January but tree is well away by then.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 28/08/2015 08:48

Saturday before Christmas, unless Christmas is a Sunday, in which case the Saturday before (though that's too long). It comes down the Sunday before I go back to work, so around Jan 2nd usually.

The world of commerce has skewed things really. The Christmas season actually comes after Advent. Advent being the lead up to Christmas.

The twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Eve and finish on 6th Jan (Epiphany). That's when we should be celebrating killjoy

Well we are having a real tree for the first time so no idea,
are you supposed to put them up early?
Will it die before the big day?
Will my cat eat it?

All questions I need to find out before I commit to a date

12 days before Xmas and comes down 12 days after.

DrTinkle · 28/08/2015 09:30

1st or 2nd weekend in Dec then down New Years day or day after. I'd like to do 12 days but it all starts to feel a bit over and I want it down.

Kryten2X4B523P · 28/08/2015 09:31

I tend to put it up on the 1st, because it takes me about a month to get to the stage where I can be bothered to put it all away again. If I decorate too late, I get a serious case of CBA syndrome, and it ends up being up well into January.

However, I will have a 20 month old this year, and that will affect my decorating plans! (half naked tree, anyone?)

Buttercup27 · 28/08/2015 09:32

As long as I can remember we always put the tree up on 1st December. I carried on this tradition until ds 2 was born on 30th November since then it has tended to be the week after.

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 28/08/2015 09:35

Mine is normally up around the second week in December. Every year I say I'll wait longer but always give in. I love Christmas!

Dc2 is due just after new year so God knows when it'll come down though. Definitely not having a real one this year.

Spadequeen · 28/08/2015 09:36

You mean you haven't put yours up already?

When we bought real, it would go up the Sunday before Christmas. Then we swapped to mid December but now we have children it's around the 7th. Garlands go up before though and the wreath is on the door on the 1st December without exception.

palmitate · 28/08/2015 10:52

Ideally Christmas Eve (real tree) but that would be too hectic so it goes up a couple of days before. The DC have a tiny tree in the playroom and put up bunting or chains they make a few days prior to that.

There does seem to be a new trend to have the decs up on 1st of December. My granny would have said it was common to put them up early Grin Though I think having tree up for a 12th of the year you soon get quite tired of it and by the time Christmas arrives you can't wait to take it down (remember threads where people have it down on boxing day and can't understand why some of us are waiting until 12th night).

Crunchyleaves · 28/08/2015 11:50

We always put it up the 2nd weekend in December, we have a real tree and that way it usually lasts until after new year without looking too bare.

Choccywoccydodah · 28/08/2015 12:07

Ours goes up on the 10th Dec. the day I found out I was pregnant with DS who is now just 4 :)
Although last year we were on holiday and didn't get back til late on the 11th so they went up the day after!!
When I was little they went up on the 11th (2 weeks before and also my brothers birthday).

Crazyshit · 28/08/2015 12:14

The 1st of december or 1st weekend. I did it last year 12 days before but didnt feel like I had much christmassy time as everything was soo busy and flew by.

Take them down the week between xmas and new year. So before NYE

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/08/2015 09:01

Ours go up on the first weekend, and I take them down the day after Boxing Day. UK never sick of a tree, and would probably put it up in October of it was socially acceptable... But once Christmas is over, it's over. I find it depressing to have a tree with nothing under it.

Savagebeauty · 29/08/2015 09:05

About the 15th. Down on 27th
