When does your tree go up?

Do you have a special traditional time to put your tree and decorations up?
Ours always used to be Advent Sunday, after church, but my DD1's birthday is December 11th, so now we leave the decorations until after her celebrations. And everything comes down the day before I go back to work in January. I hate the first few days back after Christmas and it's even worse if the house is still trimmed up!

Our tree goes up on whatever weekend is closest to the 12th December. If the 13th falls on the same weekend, it goes up on whichever day is not the 13th (make sense to anyone else? Blush )

This year the 12th is a Saturday so it'll go up then.

Biscetti · 29/08/2015 09:35

In the week before Christmas, down a couple of days after NYE.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 29/08/2015 09:36

I'm aiming for 1st weekend in Dec but dh will try and hold off till the next weekend.

Rowboat · 29/08/2015 11:15

DH always insists it goes up 1 Dec and would do it sooner if I let him. I will try to wait till the first weekend, but I fear it's a lost cause. :)

Rowboat · 29/08/2015 11:16

We keep it up til twelfth night.

curriegirl · 29/08/2015 11:18

Up first Saturday in December. Down between Christmas and new year. Hate clutter into the new year.

BrandNewAndImproved · 29/08/2015 11:19

I'm debating whether to wait for Xmas eve and get a real tree for pennies. I hate all the clutter that I've somehow ended up with over the years! I used to be a Dec the 1st sort of person but even last year on the 15th it was to much!

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 29/08/2015 11:34

After DDs December birthday, which makes it the second week in December.

JasperDamerel · 29/08/2015 11:48

Up on the winter solstice, down on twelfth night.

Olafscarrotnose · 29/08/2015 11:59

Usually first weekend of December but this year maybe the last weekend of November. I love my tree and we make a day of it- visit to the garden centre to choose some new decorations, something nice to eat and a few drinks with Christmas music playing in the background.

All excited now Grin

JanuaryJuniper · 29/08/2015 12:22

December 1st or the Sunday nearest! Can't wait! We put up two, a real one in the open plan kitchen dining area and then a fake one in the sitting room.

We leave them up until as near to little Christmas as possible!

ApollO88 · 29/08/2015 12:26

family tradition growing up was dec 1st. now im grown up and dec 1st is hubby2be's birthday...it goes up on the 2nd. it comes down new years day

lavazzzalover · 29/08/2015 15:41

Last Sunday in November. Always!

CatMilkMan · 29/08/2015 15:43

We take the Halloween decorations off it at the end of November so it's a Christmas tree again.

0pheliaBalls · 30/08/2015 23:08

Last Sunday in November, down on Twelfth Night. Though we have been known to put them up a week earlier if the last Sunday in November is the 30th. Each to their own but why would you wait until Christmas Eve?! I like to take advantage of the sparkly lights and cosiness for as long as possible Smile

Loki17 · 31/08/2015 08:26

1st of December. The run up is do much nicer when my house is all cozy with twinkly lights everywhere. It comes down on the 2nd of January so that we can get ready to go back to school/work. We have a real tree. At long as it is kept watered it is absolutely fine for a month.

goblinhat · 31/08/2015 08:36

Around two weeks before christmas must be a real tree. Comes down around the 2nd.

duckbilled · 31/08/2015 09:11

First weekend in December and down on the 27th/28th Grin

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 01/09/2015 14:31

1st December, without fail!

When ds was younger (severe autistic and didn't get the whole Christmas thing until he was 7! His 'thing' was the decorations back then) I used to stay up overnight and decorate the living room to surprise him in the morning.

Now, he gets Christmas, he helps with the decorations and we spend the evening of the 1st December decorating, with Christmas music on and eating 'party' food and mince pies Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/09/2015 14:50

The decorations go up after DS birthday (he's the 7th) the tree usually 10 days before Christmas.
Christmas bedding on 1st Dec (though DS has his on the plain side till after his birthday)

Everything packed away on 1st January then NYD dinner in a clean fresh house.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/09/2015 15:25

Real tree, second or third weekend of December depending when Christmas Day falls/how busy (or rather free) we are on those two weekends.

LBOCS2 · 01/09/2015 15:26

2nd weekend in December. We take a trip to the Christmas tree farm, see Santa, pick up the tree and make a day of it :)

Nonnainglese · 01/09/2015 15:29

If I get my way up on Christmas Eve, down by New Year [bah Humbug moi?]

If dd's around then up weeks before and down by 12th Night Hmm

Helgathehairy · 01/09/2015 16:15

The tree goes up on the last Friday in November to coincide with The Late Late Toy Show (Irish tradition).

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/09/2015 16:17

DS1's birthday is in December, so it's his choice whether the tree goes up before or after it.

Before he was old enough to decide, I used to put it up the night before his birthday, so he would wake up to it on his birthday - seemed to make it more special for him :) and so far that's been his choice - but as he gets older he might want to wait until after, I don't know.
