When does your tree go up?

Do you have a special traditional time to put your tree and decorations up?
Ours always used to be Advent Sunday, after church, but my DD1's birthday is December 11th, so now we leave the decorations until after her celebrations. And everything comes down the day before I go back to work in January. I hate the first few days back after Christmas and it's even worse if the house is still trimmed up!

Fake tree, 8th December-6th January.

  • 8th Dec is both after DS' birthday and a holiday here in Spain, so we all get a day off to enjoy putting it up. All the decorations go up then, except the advent calendar (same one every year, I made it while 'nesting' with DS), and the door wreath which is more wintery than Christmassy.

I have a lot if decorations, but make sure they're not in the way, iyswim. I can't stand having to lift tealights to get into a box, or move the Welcome Snowman to get to our shoes in the hall! Everything has its place.

We have a real tree, which goes up a few days before Christmas & comes down on 6th January. This year it'll probably go up on Sunday 20th December.

First weekend in December when we go to the Christmas tree farm and choose our tree, have it cut down and force it into the car. I feel excited about this already!

Generally up two weeks before and down the first weekend of the new year. I adore Christmas but I find if the stuff is up for too long, the novelty wears off and it doesn't feel special any more.

The decorations will go up the weekend of Saturday 28th/Sunday 29th November.

1st Sunday in advent MTWTFSS ?

Goes up usually on the 12th of December and taken down again usually after New Year's Day

trip that sounds lovely.

I try and wait as long as possible but usually its the second weekend in December.

I would LOVE to be able to wait until xmas eve just for that extra excitement etc but I love it too much to wait. I have been known to keep my tree up till feb 14th.

I take it down whenever I feel like it. Sometimes I find January too grey to bear with a stripped house, sometimes I want all the clutter gone.

MTWTFSS · 03/09/2015 19:18

elQuintoConyo I think so.

Sunday 29th November- 1st
Sunday 6th December- 2nd
Sunday 13th December- 3rd
Sunday 20th December- 4th

Is that right?

elQuintoConyo · 04/09/2015 21:35

Yes, that's right MTWTFSS

So, Sunday 29th November we'll be going round to my German friend's house to enjoy the huge Advent Brunch that she has every year

We put ours up on our wedding anniversary (14th Dec), though a few decorations might go up at the beginning of December.

Decorations and tree comes down on the first weekend of the NY (often away over the NY period).

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/09/2015 12:52

The Sunday before Christmas.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 06/09/2015 12:56

The weekend after Thanksgiving, so we start putting it up 28th November this year. It's a whole weekend thing, as we put the tree and lights up on Saturday, rest of decorations on Sunday. We start doing some Christmas baking that weekend too.

Pengweng · 08/09/2015 13:34

Up first weekend of December and down 1st Jan.
