i am just wondering, i always do this with my kids, my parents did same with us. we used to be able to choose one of the smaller ones, but i always give my kids a pair of pyjamas to open on christmas eve so they have new ones to wake up in on xmas day.

An ex's family did this. It wasn;t the norm when I was a kid

oooggs · 24/11/2006 19:51

No chance, it's my birthday, not Christmas

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 24/11/2006 19:51

My parents used to let my sister and i when we were kids open just one after midnight mass.

xmasstocking · 24/11/2006 19:52

No - but my parents always kept one present back for Boxing Day - it was always a 'craft' present to keep us occupied when the novelty of Christmas had worn off.

xmasmummy · 24/11/2006 19:59

i can remember one xmas eve when i was about nine i opened a slightly larger present only to be faced with a large childrens version of the bible. how pissed off was i!!!!

We do main presents on christmas eve, as my dh is German, so this is the big night. We also have a special meal etc
I really like this way of doing it now, and they then open their other presents in the afternoon not morning like I used to, so don't feel that the whole morning is taken up with an orgy of present opening.

no way

WideWebWitch · 24/11/2006 20:03

I do, one only.

rabbitrabbit · 24/11/2006 20:03

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've let my ds open five (count 'em) of his presents already.
He's 3 and I've done it every year now. Next year I'm not buying his gifts until christmas eve, and he's asleep.

ours are allowed their new PJs on Xmas Eve and that's it!

rabbit, next year you can hide his presents here till Xmas eve and then you won't be tempted!

HonorMatopoeia · 24/11/2006 20:05

Dh's family is Finnish so my Dd gets to open half her presents (well, those from Dh's family anyway and normally a smaller one from us) on Christmas Eve. She's still young (nearly 2) so it actually breaks it up nicely for her

xmasmummy · 24/11/2006 20:05

i let them open their pj's just after their baths so they nice new ones to go bed in and wake up in on xmas morn

i think it might be because we used to live in germany when me and my brother were little and my parents had lots of german friends so i think that is where the xmas eve pressie might have come from

One ex of mine used to do this - I mean he would open one of his, and let me open one of mine - we didn't have children. I actually found I didn't want to do it as it took the edge off the excitement IMO.

Another ex is Polish and his family open all theirs on Christmas Eve - I mean my God! Once you have done that what is there left to do on Christmas Day but get pissed and bicker about what's on TV?
