Countdowners 2014

Farrowandbawlbauls · 26/12/2013 18:31

Yes I know it's still Christmas 2013 for a few more days, but technically, the countdown started this morning.

So..Here we are again.

We will need:

Links to other threads about bargin hunting
Links to sales throughout the year
Links for decorations
Links for days out
Links for any good electrical sales
Links for budgeting
Links for really good gifts for men as they are generally the harest to buy for and grandparents/in laws.

There's no harm in starting a list now either for what you need to get next year, learning from this year and previous years.

The top of my list I must remember to write a card to SIL T&S, every single year they have sent a card and I've failed to send one in return for the 3rd year running now. Ditto Claire.

Must remember to buy crakers from M&S again, they were fantastic.

Hi, glad im to the only one here.

I'm not sure what we're doing for Christmas yet. We wanted a quiet family chrismas as we'll have four children between 4 months and 6, but I think my sister is going to Center Parcs which means we should probably invite my parents here.

MamaPizza · 05/10/2014 08:08

Yay, there a people out here Grin

Congrats on the birth of DD3, Seven.

I'm going for Playmobil advent calendar again, can't do any sewing, no talent in that department at all.

No presents yet DS doesn't seem to keen on my DS, so don't see much point getting him his own. No idea what to get the boy as main present. Another sofa for bouncing maybe, because that's all he seems to be doing Hmm

Not long until Lapland. Wedding venue has been changed to a more amazing location. It's the Ice Chapel in the Snow Village (google and go awwwww). Dress needs shortening once I lost more weight, got everything else ready. Ebay China was my saviour for tiara, veil, boots etc... Grin

New job is great, but am knackered. First payday has been and I'm loving the payrise, but at the moment it's straight eaten up for the wedding.

I've heard about those Elfie letters, please report back.

AcheyJakey · 05/10/2014 13:14

Omg I love the ice chapel!!! Is that near the ice hotel or a different place? I stayed in that about 15 years ago and LOVED it. What a magical place to get married. Amazing and worth every penny!

We've just got back and there's a parcel which I'm pretty sure is the letters. Will have a look once kids in bed later just incase and report!

ChestyNut · 05/10/2014 15:40

Hi all!

Been hunting for thread and here it is! I'm also in full on panic mode for some reason seven Congrats on new baby Thanks

mama sorry to hear about FIL.
How exciting a winter wedding Envy
Tell me more, when? Are you getting married in Lapland?
I'd looooove a winter wedding, suppose I need a partner first Grin

achey I have the no more socks app on I phone, is great, no lists or duplicating buys.

I've finally found something for my team, found 4 yankee samplers and a voitive for 11.99 so got two and there done... One each, just a token to say thank you to them all.

smiles where are youuuuuuuuu?

ChestyNut · 05/10/2014 15:45

mama just googled pictures, am so jealous!

Room for a small one? Envy

Smilesandpiles · 05/10/2014 16:18

I'm here, I'm here, just need to catch up with a cuppa and I'll be right with you all.

Been running around like a blue arsed fly all day yesterday and today so I could have a decent session on MN and christmas shopping online.

MamaPizza · 05/10/2014 16:20

That's the one, Achey, it's in the Snow Village where there is also a hotel, ice bar, a slide made out of ice (DS will love it) and much more. The wedding only costs €780, which isn't too bad considering what location you are getting. Thomsons were a rip off, I'm going direct via the Snow Village.
Pic attached of what I will be in 75 sleeps Grin

We booked a photographer to take pictures of the ceremony and the surroundings with us, they are going to be amazing. And fingers crossed for the Northern Lights that night, it would be the icing on the cake.

Chesty, yes getting married there. We are staying at the Snow Wilderness Lodge in Pallas, it's in the middle of the National Park and there is sweet f.a. around it, so pure winter wonderland.
We travel a bit South for the wedding, got taxis already booked, as we wanted the Ice Chapel.

I really want to show you pics of my dress, but it will totally out me. It's soooo pretty and sparkly. I feel like a snow princess in it.

And nobody in real life knows yet, we are sending everyone in our families / friends a postcard from Lapland with our wedding picture as Christmas card.

Our DS doesn't even know yet!!! DH to be wants to tell him at the airport but I want to tell him early December. What does the mumsnet jury say?

Countdowners 2014
MamaPizza · 05/10/2014 16:21

Sorry, I ramble a lot. I'm so super excited, can't believe that I'm going to tie the know there. A dream coming true after a bad start to the year.

And I'm sure my DH's dad and mum will be smiling from above Smile

ChestyNut · 05/10/2014 17:52

They will deffo be smiling from above mama
I vote 1st of dec to tell him! Build up the excitement Grin

Oooh I'd love to see your dress! Sneaky peep? Can u pm it? Envy

smiles hurrah! How are you?

MamaPizza · 05/10/2014 19:22

I like your vote Grin Jingle the elf could 'tell' him, he can read now so could be a little message.

Don't know, can I pm pictures?

ChestyNut · 05/10/2014 19:58

Oh yes! A letter should arrive with Jingle, inviting him to the Ice palace or a treasure hunt instructions to collect words spelling it out!

AcheyJakey · 05/10/2014 19:59

Oooh just opened my elfie letters!! They're so fab I'm going to start a new thread about them. Seriously impressed.

ChestyNut · 05/10/2014 20:02

Ps yankee candle advent calendars are out! A hexagonal flat one or a 3D house.

TheOnlySeven · 06/10/2014 11:17

Thanks all :)

mama the wedding sounds amazing, I agree jingle should tell DS.

How much are Yankee candle advent calendars?

ChestyNut · 06/10/2014 12:22

Think they are around £20 but each window has a yankee twilight and a voitive for Christmas Eve Grin

I got one last year, was lovely.

ChestyNut · 06/10/2014 12:24

*tealight

AcheyJakey · 06/10/2014 21:04

Brilliant brilliant. Lecky toothbrushes for stockings!! Thank you!

excitedforbaba · 07/10/2014 10:53

I wish I could have discovered this thread along time ago! Only stumbled across MN for first time a few months ago while suffering from horrendous preg sickness!

So can I request politely there is a 2015 count down started on boxing day! Grin

Baby is due in less than 6 weeks but is already fully kitted out for "essential" items and "Santa presents"

Have done most of my shopping online as I'm too huge to waddle round shops and have also been making the most of my idle lazytime crafting home made picture frames etc for family!

Although I dont have one scrap of wrapping paper or a card in the house Confused

Next year I Will be buying and saving from Jan! I will, I will I will

ChestyNut · 07/10/2014 18:26

Oooh a lovely squishy baby for christmas excited Grin

We do indeed start the next countdown early!

smiles where did you go? Hmm

MamaPizza · 07/10/2014 18:38

Welcome excited and congrats on the soon baby Smile

I think it's the third year running, once we get to December there will be a thread a day counting down the sleeps Grin

Thanks for backing me up re Jingle 'telling' the surprise. I want him to look at our hotel before, watch youtube videos of husky rides that we will be doing, tobaggoning rides etc. so he can get as excited as we are.

excitedforbaba · 07/10/2014 23:47

Thank u :)
Yes a lovely squishy baby for Christmas all being well! Baby even has a Christmas jumper awaiting he or she!

Another parcel loads of presents arrived today from China off eBay! Gorgeous make up bags I got for around £1 each! The joys of being awake at 3am to win auctions!! I have saved so much money this way and so far all items have been excellent quality!

MamaPizza · 08/10/2014 20:05

Yay to Christmas jumpers Grin

I must say, I also can't fault ebay China. I got amazing bargains for the wedding from there and can't fault any of them. Everything arrived within two weeks and great stuff.

ChestyNut · 09/10/2014 18:50

Oooh yankee stuff just arrived for my team, much bigger than I thought, very pleased

Going to get some small gift bags instead if wrapping them as can only wrap boxes Grin

Any ideas for 28 year old DB?

excitedforbaba · 09/10/2014 21:02

chestynut I have a 28 year old DP and he loves getting new games for console, some nice aftershave, box sets of whatever series has caught his eye in the run up. Hoodies or concert tickets? Any of those be any good to him?

TheOnlySeven · 10/10/2014 14:39

Hi excited, last year was my first countdown thread. It's nice having somewhere we can be excited about Christmas, everyone IRL thinks I'm bad being excited already :o

Bottle of nice wine or aftershave? iTunes vouchers are always good if you're desperate!
