Countdowners 2014

Farrowandbawlbauls · 26/12/2013 18:31

Yes I know it's still Christmas 2013 for a few more days, but technically, the countdown started this morning.

So..Here we are again.

We will need:

Links to other threads about bargin hunting
Links to sales throughout the year
Links for decorations
Links for days out
Links for any good electrical sales
Links for budgeting
Links for really good gifts for men as they are generally the harest to buy for and grandparents/in laws.

There's no harm in starting a list now either for what you need to get next year, learning from this year and previous years.

The top of my list I must remember to write a card to SIL T&S, every single year they have sent a card and I've failed to send one in return for the 3rd year running now. Ditto Claire.

Must remember to buy crakers from M&S again, they were fantastic.

Why are Mumsnetters obsessed with Yankee Candles (just asking...)

SmilesandPilesOfPresents · 14/11/2014 18:09

Dunno about anyone else but I like them. That's it. Country something or other are also really good.

Postchildrenpregranny · 14/11/2014 18:16

Well I like scented candles but not necessarily YC . (If you are ever in New England you can visit the factory and ,I assume, buy them cheaply)

SmilesandPilesOfPresents · 14/11/2014 18:18

Good for you.

Seriously, what more do you want us to say?

We like them because we do. Some are nice, some aren't as nice, some are horrid and some are gorgeous - it's down to that particular persons tastes.

ChestyNut · 14/11/2014 18:19

Just coz I like em

SmilesandPilesOfPresents · 14/11/2014 18:21

Oi!
Get back on your namechang thread you, I'm wracking my brains here...

MrsChristmasVamos · 14/11/2014 20:24

I adore the cinammon Yankee candle.

Last year I bought a huge one, can't wait to get the tree up and light all my candles.

I also got one of the Christmas boxes last year so I'll be trying them out.

I adore that 'Christmassy' smell !

ChestyNut · 14/11/2014 21:05

Which christmas boxes mrs?

MrsChristmasVamos · 14/11/2014 22:38

Sorry, dahling, had unexpected visitors !

Yankee candle Christmas candle boxes.

You get about 9 small candles of varying festive scents.

Xmas Smile

Sorry folks, was without laptop and I can't get the hang of the app.

I had a big panic attack last Monday due to missing documents (I had a bad feeling last weekend, my instincts must have told me), but it's all sorted now. phew!

Had my dress on last night for last time before cutting it as I lost quite some weight. It made such a difference, 4 inches on my waist gone and it so much more defined.

Still busy with living room, and DH is working overtime this weekend both days (extra Christmas money), but means less time doing stuff. Will have it done in two weeks though, when the tree arrives Xmas Grin

Went to Ikea last weekend and got loads of lovely Christmas scented candles. Mmmmh Xmas Smile

ChestyNut · 15/11/2014 09:39

Oh yes Mrs I have some from last year, think it had 12 in. 3 left to go, they've lost their scent slightly tho.

mama I use the desktop site on my phone, can't be doing with the app, confuses me Xmas Grin

MamaPizza · 16/11/2014 09:39

I went to Primark for the first time ever yesterday. Never been before, but I loved it! So much Christmas trash Xmas Grin got a 'team Santa' hat, Santa gloves and other stuff, ha ha.

Am also going to get this one I think everyone on this thread should have one!

ChestyNut · 16/11/2014 18:50

Yes could be our count downers team uniform Xmas Grin

Primary is to jumble sale like for me. I like order to my shopping. Can never find anything in there.

Went into town yesterday was heeeaving, won't be going til feb I reckon.

I'm a celeb soon Xmas GrinXmas Smile

MamaPizza · 16/11/2014 20:08

I'm going again on the 28th again. My school is closed for Inset Xmas Wink (we worked our time on a Saturday open day in lieu) and DH also has the day off. We plan to get every single last bit for Christmas on that day Xmas Grin Should hopefully be better getting it done on a Friday than trying to brave the shops on any of the next weekends.

I like the idea of a uniform! Xmas Grin

So excited about celeb, but I'm so knackered. I was ready for bed at 7, don't even know why. Need another coffee before I snooze.

MamaPizza · 20/11/2014 18:52

5 weeks today

And I'm in complete denial that in 4 weeks I will be a wife Xmas Grin

MamaPizza · 20/11/2014 19:28

Oh, and my ebay jumper uniform has arrived. Can't wait to wear it Xmas Grin

ChestyNut · 21/11/2014 19:04

I've got a christmas sweatshirt too mama Xmas Grin

I'm going christmas decoration shopping tomorrow

MamaPizza · 21/11/2014 20:35

Oooh, have fun shopping Xmas Grin

I wore my hoodie at school this morning. My tutor group thinks I lost the plot they might be right colleagues loved it. I'm already planning a Santa's grotto as decoration for December.

Living room shall be finished this weekend. And then time to get out the Christmas stuff and clutter it all up again decorate.

ChestyNut · 22/11/2014 15:31

When are you putting the christmas decs up at home?

I'm now the proud owner of a ton of teal, silver and white christmas decorations Xmas Grin

I need a christmas tree skirt tho!

I'm looking at them longingly

MamaPizza · 23/11/2014 08:17

Lovley! Your colours sound great, love them. Looking forward to pics (if you are sharing). Erm, what is a Christmas tree skirt? Like something for the bottom?

My tree will arrive on Friday, will put it up next Sunday. Jingle will also arrive next weekend. It's full steam ahead now Xmas Grin

I wish I could have new decs, as the new living room is ivory and olive (almost done btw!), but can't afford it this year with Lapland et al, so it has to be Nordic for a last year. But will look for wooden / olive / cream stuff in the sales in January

ChestyNut · 23/11/2014 18:30

Yes it covers the base of the tree Xmas Grin

Wow it's the last weekend of nov next weekend! I'm nearly all shopped up, going to wrap them all on weeks leave in dec.

Still haven't started any christmas cards, detest writing them. Any volunteers?

What date are you going away mama?

Where is everyone?

chloejaynemummy · 23/11/2014 18:40

So cosy I love love love xmas! Had a poorly monkey today so spent all day in our pj's watching xmas films! Xx

Countdowners 2014
MamaPizza · 23/11/2014 19:26

We are going on the 17th.

I got a lovely garland around my new fireplace now. Can't wait any longer, it's all Christmas now. I also found a lovely wooden train in homebase, so pretty with tealights.

Chloe, that looks fab. Tree up already? Wow! I'm holding back until next weekend, but as said above, other stuff is slowly creeping into the house.

SevenSwansASwimming · 24/11/2014 17:42

Sorry, I'm here now. I've been struggling a bit lately, diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with PND but things are now improving. Combined with DD1's third birthday last week I just haven't had time for MN.

mama wow not long to go now, you must be so excited!

W'll probably be putting the decorations up next week Xmas Grin

MamaPizza · 24/11/2014 20:24

Sorry to hear, Seven. Hope the Christmas cheer can help a little, but I know how difficult it is (been there, done that...).

DH's passport finally arrived today, we are sending it off for apostille tomorrow (48 hour turnaround) and then to Lapland. Just in the nick of time. That was my trouble with documents that I mentioned the other day, but as long as everything is there by the 9th it's fine and it will be as we are paying shit loads for next day delivery to Finland.

My new mantlepiece is already decorated. Tree arriving on Friday! Will put it up by Sunday, can't wait.
