Christmas songs that give you The Rage?

I love Christmas songs. I have a huge playlist and I'm forcing helping the DCs to learn all the words. But hearing Wizzard just gives me the utter Rage. Xmas Angry (Elsewhere I mean, it's obviously banned from the house.)

It's just shite. Even as a child I realised that the anticipation is all part of the big day. Every day?! Go do one Roy Wood.

Ah, that feels better. Go on, your turn....

I love all Christmas songs but Last Christmas is annoying - bit naff even for a Christmas song and given that it's George, he could have done better.

I adore When A Child is Born (sob). And Wizzard. And the Mariah Carey one even though generally I cannot deal with the note-botherer.

LittleBearPad · 20/12/2013 15:04

Simply... Having a wonderful Christmas time.

No no no.

Argh!

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 15:27

I've remembered another.

That Beach Boys song that starts 'Christmas comes this time each year…'

Well, duh…

Slade's Merry Christmas Everyone and Wizard I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday. I hate them so much I will actually not enter or walk out of a shop if I hear those songs. I like Fairy Tale of New York and Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You though.

PipkinsPal · 20/12/2013 16:52

I've just realised from the song that Mariah Carey cannot roll her "R's".

VelvetStrider · 20/12/2013 16:55

Fairytale of New York here too. Not so much the song, but the video, where Kirsty MaColl and Shane whatsisname look at each other while singing 'You're handsome, you're pretty' and then nod smugly at each other without any sense of ridiculousness or irony. And I hate the fact that it's seen as cool and edgy and we're all supposed to love it.

Give me 'Chestnuts roasting on an open fire' anyday - now that's a good Christmas song!

insancerre · 20/12/2013 17:17

it's 'you were handsome' and 'you were pretty'
it's a love song
I love that song, it is my fav christmas song and i love the Stop the Cavalry one too.

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 17:26

Velvet - I think you'll find that's actually called 'The Christmas Song' Xmas Wink

I could put up with anything if I didn't have to listen to fairytale . I loathe it more than words can say and every time it's played I see that hideous monstrosity Shane McGowan in my head ( not in the flesh obviously, that really would be too much)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/12/2013 17:56

I love Fairytale too, but I love Shane anyway so am biased.

supermariossister · 20/12/2013 18:29

fairytale of new York was played at my mums funeral last year I used to love that song but can't listen to it now. was on whilst I was shopping had to hum another tune to distract myself

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 18:30

Was it a Christmas funeral or was that just a favourite song?

OP posts:
supermariossister · 20/12/2013 18:34

bit of both I think, last day of November and was always her favourite song she loved the pogues

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 18:45

My dad's favourite is Greg Lake, I believe in Father Christmas. I know I'd have trouble listening to it after he dies (hopefully not any time soon!). But it's usually rarely played, other than in the current Sainsbo's ads, which is an odd choice IMHO as it's a kind of anti-commercialisation/loss of childhood song Xmas Hmm

supermariossister · 20/12/2013 18:50

i know that song :D your right it isnt heard often is it. the pogues seems to have followed me around this year, im sure it did many other years i just never noticed it as much

Varya · 20/12/2013 18:53

In the supermarket this week, the song 'Baby's first Christmas' lead me to feel nauseous with its sugary sentimental lyrics. Ugh.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 18:54

Gwendoline you do know don't you that Shane is mine?

Xmas Wink
ILoveCwtches · 20/12/2013 18:57

How has nobody mentioned, 'Mary's Boy Child' by Boney M?

It makes me shudder!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 18:58

supermario Fairytale is poignant for me because it was playing as I gave birth to my PFB (now 14 yo DS)

It still brings a tear to my eye with the remembered emotion of the time.

It's amazing how hearing a song brings it all back.

supermariossister · 20/12/2013 19:00

it sure does, thats a nice memory to have :D

BobCrotchstitch · 20/12/2013 21:02

I recently and unfortunately heard a song by Destinys Child called The 8 days of Christmas.
I have included a link for those who may be interested in such obvious musical talent........

Merry Christmas Xmas Grin

VelvetStrider · 21/12/2013 16:27

Was Shane McGowen ever pretty then? Confused

justgirl · 21/12/2013 17:03

I did a stint in JDSports over Christmas as a teen and they had the WORST Christmas mix cd known to man on repeat. The worst of all was their ad campaign song "it's just what I've always waaaaanted, just what I've always, wanted" hideous.
