Christmas songs that give you The Rage?

I love Christmas songs. I have a huge playlist and I'm forcing helping the DCs to learn all the words. But hearing Wizzard just gives me the utter Rage. Xmas Angry (Elsewhere I mean, it's obviously banned from the house.)

It's just shite. Even as a child I realised that the anticipation is all part of the big day. Every day?! Go do one Roy Wood.

Ah, that feels better. Go on, your turn....

Love Actually gives me the Ultimate Rage. But I understand MN is rather divided on this...

I hate people giving out about Do They Know Its Christmas Time. Do you think anyone affected by teh Ethiopian famine gave a shiny shite about climactic inaccuracies when they got their lives saved by the money that brought in? No they did not. It's a bit rich for us to moan about it under the guise of respect and multiculti and all that, but it's just self righteous posturing.

Orangeanddemons · 20/12/2013 11:39

Another one hating the John Lenon one. Sanctimonious turd. I feel anything but peace when I hear that droning dirge.

insancerre · 20/12/2013 11:42

Mariah carey
shakin stevens
cliff richard

differentnameforthis · 20/12/2013 11:49

A few years back Ronan Keating did a cover of Fairytale of New York

Just listened to this, it's dire...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/12/2013 11:49

Haven't heard Band aid at all this year. Detest anything with an ex Beatle singing it and Wizzard. Otherwise don't mind.

MelanieCheeks · 20/12/2013 11:54

Oh thank goodness I'm not along in hating Fairytale - everyone else seems to rave about it. I have to leave whatever shop I'm in if it comes on.

TheBoss going Sannnna Claus is comi--i-i-i-i-i-ing....aaaargh, my ears.

And just the sheer greed expressed by the lyrics of Santa Baby.

3bunnies · 20/12/2013 11:56

'I saw mommy kissing Santa' - the song itself isn't any worse than the rest of it's genre other than the mommy rather than mummy and Santa rather than FC. What I hate about it are the questions. We have it on our Christmas car cd. Why is she kissing Santa? Would you kiss Santa? Would that mean the boys parents will get divorced? Is Santa bad because he is kissing someone who is married? Why is she tickling him? How do you tickle someone under their beard?

SorrelForbes · 20/12/2013 12:00

The one that goes something like "must be santa" Dylan?

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 20/12/2013 12:04

Spent yesterday shopping and hating almost every song in every shop. I feel sorry for those who work there.

somedizzywhore1804 · 20/12/2013 12:09

Not The Rage as such but A Spaceman Cane Travelling by Chris DeBergh (you know "and it went LALALALALALALALALA") makes me practically suicidal. So fucking depressing.

ggirl · 20/12/2013 12:13

it's xmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas by Slade....fucking hate it

and the Bruce Springsteen one

ProfondoRosso · 20/12/2013 12:14

I am so glad I'm not the only one who hates Fairytale of NY. I thought I was just a grinch!

It depresses the hell out of me. The past few years, Christmas has been a bit tough and hearing it always makes me want to cry. This bit:

I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
Where all our dreams come true.

Hearing that and knowing the context of the song (they're all destitute and in the fucking drunk tank) makes me feel low. But there's also the fact that my DM used to get really drunk, play it in JULY and fall over.

I don't need shit making me feel depressed at Christmas, FGS!!

ipswichwitch · 20/12/2013 12:20

Oh god melanie I forgot about Springsteen completely butchering that song. It's like nails down a blackboard.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 12:21

I love The Pogues "Fairytale of New York" and the Ronan Keating one is a travesty.
Ronan Keating should be poked in the eye with a shitty stick every time it's played Xmas Angry

There's a realllllly bad version of "Little Drummer Boy" that I keep hearing. Boils my Piss Confused

bequiasweet · 20/12/2013 12:24

3bunnies I have only been half-aware of that highly irritating song 'I saw momma kissing Santa' for many years and it was only last week when it was playing in a shop that I listened more carefully and the penny dropped. I now realise that it was Daddy dressed up as Santa Claus, so that's alright then!! Who would have thunk?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 12:27

We were at DD Christmas Concert t'other day, one group sang the Slade song (can't remember the nme but it's the one they churn out every year)

I said to DH "I bet one of the Dad's does the It's Chriiiiiiiiiistmassssss bit.

And sure enough...one did Xmas Grin

Mega Xmas Blush for their DC though

ProfondoRosso · 20/12/2013 12:31

Don't know if you're a Corrie fan, 70, but somebody's dad shouting that at a school show is as bloody predictable as Peter Barlow turning up lashed and knocking over the manger. Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 12:33

Well I can comfort myself that at least it wasn't MY DC dad that had a Noddy moment (Holder, not the prat in the hat with the bell Xmas Wink )

AtticusMcPlatypus · 20/12/2013 12:41

That bloody awful East 17 one, Stay I think its called and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Power of Love. Hate both of them, interminable dirges.

3bunnies · 20/12/2013 12:50

bequiasweeet I know that but I can't tell my dc as they all still just about believe (4, 6 &8). Don't know what is worse for them him being an OM or being mythical! I've reassured them that I won't be kissing him cos it will be me as dh would mix everything up

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 14:48

I am rather comforted by the fact that we all get The Rage from at least one song. Although it goes to show that the MN Xmas Album would be… empty.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2013 14:51

There's a Mumsnet Christmas Album.................................?

And I wasn't told this WHY ???????

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 14:55

'would be' empty, 70.

As in, if there were one. Although if you do one MNHQ, can I get a cut for coming up with the idea? [winning smile]

George Michael - the lyrics are horrendous, and he sings it tunelessly
Cliff Richard - loathe
