No one actually likes sprouts, do they? I mean really?
Everyone has them because 'it's traditional' and 'it wouldn't be Christmas without sprouts'. Not because 'sprouts are delicious, I would eat them every day if I could'

The tradition is just propaganda to fill the coffers of Big Sprout.

So let's all just say no this Christmas. No one will mind. Honest.

M&S sell flower sprouts. Basically sprouts that haven't formed a hard ball. They're lovely. Closer to sprouting broccoli in flavour.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/12/2013 16:22

My mum makes me eat one every Christmas. I am nearly 40, I am not going to change my mind about them. Although last year she cooked them with bacon and chestnuts, were almost edible. Would rather have just eaten the bacon and chestnuts though.

Ticktock80 · 15/12/2013 16:27

Bleurgh. They are like alien shit. Horrible little green balls of vom.

Can you tell I was forced to eat them as a kid?

msmiggins · 15/12/2013 16:34

Apparently liking or disliking sprouts is something we have no control over- it's all in the genes.

I love Sprouts when I cook them. Not so much when they are pressure cooked to within an inch of goo.

Roussette · 15/12/2013 17:14

I LOVE sprouts but can only eat them with a roast dinner and gravy and of course christmas dinner. The DCs love them too.

Felix90 · 15/12/2013 17:16

Sprouts are lovely but only when they are steamed and not mushy! I don't know why I only eat them at Christmas time.

Kelly1814 · 15/12/2013 17:21

I love sprouts! Lightly steamed then pan fried with lemon and almonds. Delish!!!!!!!

ButThereAgain · 15/12/2013 17:21

I love them, the delicious, nutty, fun-size cabbages.

MrsKwazii · 15/12/2013 18:55

You lot who like sprouts are just weird, Goddamit. There are so many utterly delicious vegetables to choose from, why you all persist to plead the case for a veg that, let's face it, looks like a giant bogey, really is beyond me. Xmas Grin

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 15/12/2013 18:57

Yes, my family all love them. In fact we have just had them with sunday dinner and unless I am careful dd aged 9 would eat her body weight.
What is there not to like? Apart from the obvious smell which will be coming from us all tonight Xmas Grin

olibeansmummy · 15/12/2013 19:28

I love them, we had them for tea tonight! ( as part of a roast dinner, not just sprouts!)

loisismyhero · 15/12/2013 19:36

I love them. Had them with dinner on Friday - yum! I'm the only one in the family who eats them though - and I insist on them being there.on Christmas day!

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 15/12/2013 19:54

The best thing i saw done with sprouts was that wreath, they are horrid...

SparklyMonkeyMummy · 16/12/2013 07:36

I love sprouts!

However I remember learning in biology that some people have gene which produces and enzyme that makes them taste sprouts and cabbage, differently to those that like them. It makes them taste a lot more bitter supposedly.

Mckayz · 16/12/2013 07:38

Sprouts are the best and I would eat them every day if I could.

NoComet · 16/12/2013 07:41

I like sprouts, DH and DM like sprouts, DD1 will eat the odd sprout.

DDad, DSIS and DD2 think they are evil.

fairnotfair · 16/12/2013 07:41

I bloody love them.

merrymouse · 16/12/2013 07:44

  1. Sprouts are delicious
  2. They are in season now.

Although I also heard the thing about some poor people having a natural disposition towards finding them bitter.

All the more for the rest of us I say Grin

bleedingheart · 16/12/2013 07:44

Fried or steamed so they still have some bite, they're great. Boiled to slush? No.

MrsBramleyApple · 16/12/2013 07:45

I hate them...........

EauRougemasTree · 16/12/2013 07:49

My step-dad was a sprout hater until he tried my recipe. You need a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze with little bits of crispy bacon sprinkled on top. I even converted DH.

thegreylady · 16/12/2013 09:00

I love sprouts. My dad used to call them fairy cabbages when I was little. My dh likes them too but none of our collected dc and dgc likes sprouts. Even the veggies dislike them!

LucyLasticKnickers · 16/12/2013 09:18

i like sprouts, should have had the with yesterday's roast!
ds likes them and even the dds have learnt, as has dh. but not too many. i dont love them that much.
i think sprout soup is probably a step too far.
frozen sprouts are intolerable.

my dm used to call them baby cabbages to persuade dsis to eat them.

LucyLasticKnickers · 16/12/2013 09:20

but i cant persuade my dds to like cauliflower, without a cheese sauce.
