Just wondering how many presents your children have to open in total (from you/Santa)

OP posts:
SpookedMackerel · 28/11/2013 21:03

1each from us
1each from their sibling

Stockingful from Father Christmas - about 10 little parcels

We will be with grandparents and uncle, aunt and cousins on the day, so there will be a few more things from them.

clairemum22 · 28/11/2013 21:07

10 little parcels in stocking from Father Christmas and about 12 from us - some big but most little eg colouring pad and pens.
Presents from some friends and our families

olibeansmummy · 28/11/2013 21:12

About 30 'bigger' presents from Santa and us, about 10 stocking presents and about 3 from family Blush

Haribotangfastic · 28/11/2013 21:17

Santa leaves a little stocking on their beds with about 6 little things in (choc coins, bubble bath etc.) then downstairs 20-25 presents in Santa sack. 3 DSs 12, 10 and 3.

They do get clothes, pjs, books etc amongst the presents

Haribotangfastic · 28/11/2013 21:17

These are just from us though and not including family presents

ChristmasYoni · 28/11/2013 21:18

Mine have about 5 little toys in the stockings as well as chocolate and about 25 presents each from us and santa

Mckayz · 28/11/2013 21:19

I think they will end up with 8-10 each.

sewingandcakes · 28/11/2013 21:20

Smaller presents in their stockings (about 10), and one each from us and their siblings. Plus family presents.

purplepippin · 28/11/2013 21:23

Stocking with about 10 small presents in and 1 big present from Father Christmas and then 12 presents from us and then usually 5 or 6 from family.

fuzzpig · 28/11/2013 21:50

Erm...

I'm not actually sure until I get them all out. Blush

But it is WAAAAY less than last year.

ShoeWhore · 28/11/2013 21:53

Usually one big present each (sometimes two)
Some books
and then a stocking which is maybe 7 or 8 little things

(they get 8 quite decent presents from aunts uncles and GPs as well though!)

Luggage16 · 28/11/2013 21:56

we are still working on the right balance here. The year before last they had 7 or 8 between them plus stockings which felt too little (was pretty underwhelming gifts too, no main present, last year they had 10 each and again nothing main, just bits and pieces. This year I have intentionally gone overboard (its a 1 off, next year we will be back to less than 10 each) as i got rid of loads of outgrown stuff and my mum is unwell and I am feeling the need to make xmas as magical as we can (without going into debt!). The kids have 15 presents each plus stockings and several main gifts between them (castle, garage, cd player, furbys). The kids wont have a clue what was cheap or expensive though so from their point of view its a few more packages than last year but they wont realise the cost difference. I havent paid full price for anything though so lots of bargains!

I love everything we have got them though, all thought through gifts they will get a lot of use from! I cant wait :D

Luggage16 · 28/11/2013 21:58

mine dont get much from other people though so they aren't getting any other main gifts elsewhere

Kelly281 · 28/11/2013 22:02

I think there are 25-30 parcels from Santa/us. DD will get approx 15-20 more between grandparents/aunts & uncles. Not all will be toys, a lot of the gifts from family will be clothes or pyjamas.

Luggage16 · 28/11/2013 22:07

just realised that sounds like 15 presents each plus the main gifts - the 15 includes the mains! I keep getting tempted with other things though atm! I think im becoming a shopaholic!

icepole · 28/11/2013 22:14

Wow at 35-30 presents! One main one, 3 wee ones, chocolate coins and an orange. I may pick up some stocking fillers if I find cheap ones. They will get from gran and three uncle's too.

nancy75 · 28/11/2013 22:17

probably about 30, i have them hidden all around the house and tend to lose track until Christmas eve when i get them out & realise i have bought quite a lot

blackandwhiteandredallover · 28/11/2013 22:21

They have each got 2 'big' presents from santa, 2 smaller things from us and one shared between them because I just couldn't resist the playmobil swimming pool Then about 10 or so little items as stocking fillers.

Actually just remembered I bought a big lego tub on amazon last night thanks to that black friday thread! Guess that's another joint one Blush

birdybear · 28/11/2013 22:23

Wow, i don't mean this in a mean way but i didn't realise some people give 1 or 2 presents and that is it. As a kid in an average sometimes poor family we always had a good pile of presents and now with my dc they always have at least 18-20 plus stocking fillers. I just thought all people did this. Cheaper presents if poor, expensive presents if rich!

nancy75 · 28/11/2013 22:26

birdybear - our house sounds like yours.

birdybear I know people who do all extremes for various reasons (including a family online I know who do 1 gift at about £1!!). I think some people are aiming for 1 quality gift rather than more gifts at a cheaper price. Also generally speaking I find the people online who say they only do 1 or 2 gifts have very young children. We aim for a middle ground, I dont want the kids to expect a mountain of gifts and I want to buy things that are decent rather than throw away so that limits the quantity but at the same time I dont want them to feel let down xmas day or different to their peers. Like I say some years we get it wrong - last years 10 gifts felt about right (included £3 night light etc so not 10 expesive gifts). The year with 8 between them did feel very little though and whilst she didnt say anything I could tell my daughter felt underwhelmed by it! This year they are going to be hyper as anything as there are several gifts they are going to be so excited by (furby, castle, hexbug fish etc)

BeaandMe · 28/11/2013 22:43

One big present feom santa, six stoxking fillers, then five books fom us. They then geteight or so gifts each from family.

birdybear · 28/11/2013 22:43

Those that give very few presents , is there a rational behind that, or purely cost? Are the one or two presents expensive and you choose to give a really good present rather than several cheaper ones or is it just based on cost. I hope anyone isn't offended by this question, it is entirely sensible to get within your budget but am just wondering if anyone has a it isn't all about the presents but the meaning of Christmas type thing going on in their family or this is just the way our family have always done it type thing.

stretchyandbendy · 28/11/2013 22:44

Around 30 presents each for my 3 DC. We always had a big pile of gifts on Christmas morning off Santa, so think I have just followed on from that. They will receive one gift each from two aunties, we have no other family to exchange gifts with.

Some of the gifts may be clothes, New school bag etc. So not all toys or gadgets.
