Just wondering how many presents your children have to open in total (from you/Santa)

how old is dd? if she is the youngest i think thats totally fine tbh! little ones can get overwhelmed if too much

Kyrptonite · 29/11/2013 10:04

They've all got about 30 each from us and Santa (6,4,3 and 4months)

MIL has got the older ones an annual pass to gullivers land and some stocking fillers.
DM has got them a furby each and a highchair for the baby plus a few little bits.
Other family will get them toys r us vouchers I think.

We don't have DSD until the 27th this year so it will be spread out throughout a week!

Mumof3xx · 29/11/2013 10:05

She will be nearly 9 months so to be fair won't have a clue

Luggage16 · 29/11/2013 10:23

i really wouldnt worry at all then, I think she has plenty!

I have just been to our room and safe to say the children have more than enough! my room has been taken over by cardboard boxes! am tempted to put it all in bags and build a massive fort with the children with all the boxes, esp as we should have a massive one arriving today with ds new carseat in! maybe our elf on the shelf might do it one day soon lol

curiousgeorgie · 29/11/2013 10:23

DD1 has about 20 from us, about 10 things in her stocking from Santa and about 15 from family & friends.

DD2 has about 6 from us, about 5 things in in her stocking and 15 from family & friends. (She's only 6 months... Not showing favouritism!
Wink)

I don't have a set amount either to spend or the number of gifts. I buy what I think she'd like or what she has asked for. This year she can't think of anything and I'm struggling too so it might end up being a small number. To be fair she loves the stocking most which is filled with fun stuff and things I don't buy for her but FC will.

Lilicat1013 · 29/11/2013 11:30

They are supposed to have twelve presents and a stocking each. Eight toys, two books, one annual and a little gift on Christmas Eve.

This year my older son has fourteen and my youngest thirteen (he is too little for an annual) because went a bit over with bargains and they got two extra toys each.

Including gifts from family they will likely have around twenty presents in total this year (not including stocking fillers).

They get one main present each, my older son has a Leappad 2 (I paid around £45) and a game. My younger son has a baby walker which was £18. All other gifts are cheaper than their main present, both have things that are £5 and most of the rest if their things are under £15 (all of my younger son's are under £15, most under £10).

I did buy too much this year and I want to change that next year. I also want to be more aware of how many high value presents they have. I managed to get my older son a wooden garage and a Playmobil plane heavily reduced, either one of those could have been a main present and in future I would prefer not to get him multiple big presents in one year even if I am not paying full price. I would prefer to do one stand out main present and the rest smaller things.

CA95616 · 29/11/2013 13:02

Too many gifts...too little...it's relative. We think 6-8 gifts is plenty and wouldn't go over that amount. One year we did and poor DD was overwhelmed! She couldn't possibly enjoy everything and couldn't even remember what she had got when asked.

This year DD (8) gets 2 substantial gifts from us... Disney Infinity Wii game and a Polaroid camera and then 6 smaller ones from Santa eg books and activity sets.

DD (1) gets 1 substantial gift from us...vtech zebra scooter and 2 smaller ones from Santa eg books. At 18 months she'll probably enjoy shredding the wrapping paper best!

foxdongle · 29/11/2013 14:05

ours sometimes get 1 big present between them e.g. xbox , wii in previous years. this year 1 main each plus about 10 - 15 smaller things, stockings and chocs. loads from extended family and couple of close friends. we are not ones to buy for rest of year tho , only birthdays and clothes they grow out of. no debt required either

ThreeMyselfAndI · 29/11/2013 16:39

around 40 each from us/ father Christmas.

it starts to get ridiculous when the families are included

around 25/35 each from my dps
around 3/4 each from dh dps (£150/160)
^ same from dhs grandparents and my grandparents
and around another 15/20 each fron other family and friends.

and usually £100/150 each in money gifts.

Shock alot I don't realise until it's written downBlush

MamaPizza · 29/11/2013 17:01

My spreadsheet tells me 42 presents, cost of £632 for DS Blush. In my defense, he doesn't get anything from any of our families so it's only us who spoil him. We can comfortably afford it and didn't go into any debts. Most expensive presents were the playmobil zoo set (£61) and a guitar (£60), both presents that will last many years. The rest smaller things ranging from £5 to £20, stuff like Scooby Doo bedding, books etc..
Oh, and then there is still the stocking which isn't part of my calculations. Ooops

Marne · 29/11/2013 17:07

Around 20-30, I don't really count and I don't really think it matters how many gifts your children get, I am sure they are happy with 5 gifts or 500 Grin, my dd's don't get much from family (and the ones that do give will give them money) and we don't give much for birthdays, I am happy to spoil them for 1 day and I'm sure it wont turn them into spoilt brats.

I really felt like I'd splashed out, ds has 4 presents from us and a stocking with maybe 5 more, I felt a bit guilty for getting too much, sounds like I can get a bit more!

MuffCakes · 29/11/2013 18:12

This year I've scaled it back to about ten plus stocking but I feel mean and will prob buy them more so 15 each. I don't spoil them very often but my problem is te TWITCH on Christmas eve Grin

usualsuspect · 29/11/2013 18:13

I never counted them.

I counted and according to my spreadsheet DS has 23 presents from us/Father Christmas plus a stocking. His main present, one of the 23, is a bike, and the rest ranges from big Lego set to a slushy maker cup.

He usually gets 7-10 presents from extended family when we go visiting.

EustaciaVye · 29/11/2013 18:50

Dds have a stocking with main present from FC and about 15 small presents, often craft stuff, stationary, chic coins etc

They get about 3 presents from us, one is always a book box set and the others a much wanted toy.

ELR · 29/11/2013 18:52

1 main present each new ipad mini. They have contributed about £150 each towards it.
Then maybe 6 or so smaller things: slippers, book, socks, dream catcher dd has a hair dryer and ds has a board game.
Then stocking each with small bits pencils, chocolates, smellies, nail polish for dd and gadgets for ds stockings are about £50 as don't like cheap rubbish. Total spend each this year is about £300 or £450 if you include their contribution, whenever we get them something big they usually contribute half towards it.
They will each get a gift from my mum, brother, dad, grandad and inlaws.
Also do a Christmas Eve hamper with craft stuff, DVD and new pjs.
We only buy at Christmas.

NachoAddict · 29/11/2013 18:59

I also have a spreadsheet, dd & ds have 20 each ranging in price from £3 to £100. Ds1 has 16 but his range from £4 to £160 ds2 is only a baby still so has 9.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 29/11/2013 22:09

Ds has 30 including a large trike that he will likely discover unless I can manage to squeeze it into the she single handedly! (He's 14 so a very big trike lol)

He will have some little bits in his stocking,no idea what yet!

He only gets presents from me (and before anyone questions trikes etc he's severely autistic with learning dis)

To those asking on sizes and prices,it really varies with ds although this year is cheaper. His trike was the most expensive (£269 in store but got from amazon for 149)then he has pyjamas, games, japanese sweets and caligraphy set, dvds xbox games and various other things. The cheapest was bargainous and will definitely be one of his favourites-he's wanted an old typewriter for ages,no idea why.Hard to get hold of but spotted one in the window of a charity shop I was passing and got a 1970's Adler for £3!!! He'll be over the moon Grin

MegBusset · 29/11/2013 22:16

Mine get max 10 presents under the tree (not huge things - more like Lego set, craft set, kind of thing) and 10 little things in their stocking (pens, chocolates, small cuddly toy etc). Tbh that's absolutely loads and they wouldn't enjoy it any more if they had more stuff to open. One or two other bits from GPs but that's it.

Their birthdays are Feb and April which is another reason for keeping a lid on the influx of stuff at Christmas!

Cathycat · 30/11/2013 00:22

My children will be getting 6 presents each but I will say that we have rather a large family and relatives will buy nice things such as selection boxes, etc and kind grandparents. I have 4 children, an average salary and will be getting each child a roughly similar amount, so for example: one child will get a portable dvd player, a play station game, a remote control aeroplane, a DVD, a bath set and a Dr Who sonic screwdriver toothbrush. I will probably buy him a stocking of chocolates, etc. Over the years I have learnt that just over 100 - 150 seems to be about right but my children are not spoilt and would be grateful for anything.

BrianTheMole · 30/11/2013 00:27

One main present. Some books, pens, small games, 6 or 7 small stocking fillers. Plus the rellies posted some clothes down for xmas. Thats plenty.
