Where do you hide your presents?

Just for fun, where do you hide your presents?

I used to hide them in our closet, until it became a favourite hiding spot for the kids. DD would always come out from hiding with some item she had been coveting and ask what this was and then who it was for. Man, I had to think on my feet sometimes.

I then started hiding them in a separate low cupboard that usually had laundry baskets blocking it off. But after Christmas last year, started using it for the supply of school friends' birthday presents and the kids spotted me at it, so now know about it.

This year, I'm hiding them in a very high cupboard in their own room! They can't reach it even with a chair, but they could with a bit of creative climbing. However, it hasn't been opened in the past 6 months, so I'm hoping it's safe. I've also hidden DH's gifts in there, so I have to make sure not to casually mention it to him as he might otherwise be tempted to look!

In my wardrobe, the garage and the loft. Always hectic on Christmas Eve trying to remember where things are...

Marne · 15/11/2013 14:03

In the wardrobe but dd2 has found them so have had to move them to my dm's house ( much easier ).

AndiMac · 15/11/2013 14:16

My family is overseas, but I might recruit my lovely neighbour if need be!

After forgetting where Ive hidden halloween sweet etc recently I've now taken to taking photos on my phone of where things are hidden. DS went in the present cupboard last night so I'm now going to have to think of a new hiding place. I'm thinking on top of the toy storage in the lounge, it's very high and its not like the kids ever play with their toys anyway so they'll never think to look there!!

soontobeslendergirl · 15/11/2013 14:51

Under the spare room bed at the moment - handily we have a relative staying with us for a bit so kids don't go near the room becasue it is occupied :o

Other than that, at the back of wardrobes, in the cupboard under the stairs, in the loft, in the garage - pretty much all over.

Some years I have been driving round with my boot premantly full of Christmas stuff I haven't been able to sneak into the house!!

They no longer believe in Santa so it's now hiding from their active raking rather than spoiling a surprise from Santa that has been randomly come across, but they are away campling in a couple of weeks so I am going to wrap everything and rehide it all so they will be slowed down at the very least - our visitor leaves the week before Christmas so we should be safe until then!

In the attic.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 15/11/2013 14:55

i think this year we're going to need to start using the loft, as the DC have taken a liking to playing hide and seek together.

dd1 is probably getting a bike, which I'm planning to send DH to buy on the 23rd, and then I'll get next door to store it until Christmas Eve bedtime.

JaquelineHyde · 15/11/2013 14:58

I have been buying since June and so far have filled the utility room/outhouse and the cupboard under the stairs.

Luckily I am pretty much done so I don't need to find anywhere else Smile

SmeeHee · 15/11/2013 15:01

We have an ottoman bed and I recently moved the presents stash into it as DS1 had started getting nosy in the cupboard I used to use. The children know that the presents are in there but can't open the bed to see them. Grin

mirry2 · 15/11/2013 15:03

I always wrap presents up as soon as I buy them, making a list as I go along. If there's any danger of the dc finding them I always tell them to leave alone because they're for cousins, friends etc.

OvO · 15/11/2013 15:03

In the attic. It started off in a cupboard but that soon filled.

I'll be glad when they grow out of the big box stage so I have easy access to everything. Once it's in the attic there it stays until wrapping time so I can't have a look at everything I've bought.

lucysmam · 15/11/2013 15:03

In the airing cupboard in old egg boxes (big ones the local butcher gets his egg cartons delivered in) and old amazon boxes.

There's a lot of stuff already stored in there, in those boxes, that the girls don't go near so seems a good place for the moment Smile

curiousgeorgie · 15/11/2013 15:03

All our stuff is piled on the spare room bed...

Anything I buy for DH I keep in the footstool in the living room as I'm not sure he even knows it opens!

lilolilmanchester · 15/11/2013 15:06

In the suitcases in the loft

Charleymouse · 15/11/2013 15:10

Right under their noses in the living room at the moment under a blanket. They are so convinced they would be really well hidden they dont see what is right in front of them He he!

Once sorted into birthdays and Chirstmas then Christmas will go under the stairs.

aliciaflorrick · 15/11/2013 15:11

My DCs are 11 and 9 and we have lived in this 10 years and they still don't know that there is a downstairs loo that I hide the presents in every year. To be honest I forgot about it myself this year until it came to hiding the presents. All it takes are coats hung on the door and the ironing board leaning on the door and nobody knows it's there. Best hiding place ever. One day I'll get my downstairs shower room I've always wanted and then I'll be stuffed.

I like the idea of taking a photo on the phone of where you've hidden them to help remember! There has been the occasional gift I've forgotten about until mid-February...

In a locked trunk on the landing and on top of our wardrobe in amazon boxes. God knows what i'll do when the dds are bigger as we often get mice in the loft and garage.

CloserLook · 15/11/2013 16:18

In a big cupboard in the bathroom packed into cardboard boxes. Although he's 5 DS isn't interested in looking in there yet. A lock might be a good idea soon though!

Spaulding · 15/11/2013 16:23

At the moment DS isn't yet 3 so doesn't seem at all phased by the big cardboard boxes in our bedroom. Next year I'll have to keep them inside and on top of our wardrobe. We live in a small two-bed flat so we don't have any spare cupboards! Might have to do as others here have suggested and hide them at my parents' house. They have a nice big garage and a lot (where we're already storing old pushchairs and DS' old clothes!)

Spaulding · 15/11/2013 16:23

*loft

TheYamiOfYawn · 15/11/2013 16:23

In an underbed box under my bed.

Pancakeflipper · 15/11/2013 16:26

Not telling you. You might peep.
