Where do you hide your presents?

Just for fun, where do you hide your presents?

I used to hide them in our closet, until it became a favourite hiding spot for the kids. DD would always come out from hiding with some item she had been coveting and ask what this was and then who it was for. Man, I had to think on my feet sometimes.

I then started hiding them in a separate low cupboard that usually had laundry baskets blocking it off. But after Christmas last year, started using it for the supply of school friends' birthday presents and the kids spotted me at it, so now know about it.

This year, I'm hiding them in a very high cupboard in their own room! They can't reach it even with a chair, but they could with a bit of creative climbing. However, it hasn't been opened in the past 6 months, so I'm hoping it's safe. I've also hidden DH's gifts in there, so I have to make sure not to casually mention it to him as he might otherwise be tempted to look!

In ikea Dimpa bags in the loft.

muchadoaboutsomething · 15/11/2013 16:29

Most of my colleagues use the office. That normally works Although I did like the 40 so etching mn in city suit cycling up and down on a 5 year olds pink bike!

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/11/2013 16:31

Last year I shoved lots of small things behind the books on the bookshelves as they arrived. And then spent ages feeling behind every last foot of books to make sure I hadn't missed anything when it was time to take them out.

Mivery · 15/11/2013 16:31

We have a big walk in closet they're never in up on these high shelves that they can't reach. It's worked out for me so far lol

gwencooper81 · 15/11/2013 16:32

My wardrobe and a huge high cupboard In the dc's bedroom.
It's getting more difficult each year as the kids become nosyer -is that even how you spell nosyer-

Jins · 15/11/2013 16:33

The boot of the 'project' car in the garage. It's the only use its had.

Occasionally in the caravan

Small gifts go under the kitchen units behind the kick boards. Nobody has found that place yet Grin

wanderings · 15/11/2013 16:33

How about cupboards filled with boring stuff that kids would never look?

Filing cabinet, cleaning cupboard?

But most likely someone else's house is safest.

RobinSparkles · 15/11/2013 16:52

Usually in the attic but our new one isn't boarded out yet. ATM they're on the shelf in the wardrobe which is reeeeally high up. Even I struggle to get at it, I need a stool to stand on. You can't see the gifts even if the wardrobe is open. They're all hidden under piles of clothes! :)

Valiant1 · 15/11/2013 17:25

in the toy room cupboard behind the camping stuff, and under my bedGrin

ShatnersBassoon · 15/11/2013 17:29

On the top shelf of my wardrobe, which is just below ceiling height. I need a step ladder to reach it.

Big things like bikes have always been put in the garage, where the children can't go without one of us unlocking it and letting them in there.

AndiMac · 15/11/2013 19:04

Pancakeflipper oh, cross my fingers, hope to die, I won't peep! Tell meeee....

Behind kitchen kickboards is a brilliant one! Although, knowing the state of my kitchen, I'd have to wrap everything in several plastic bags lest it look a lot less than new when I pulled them out.

Cupboard in our bedroom

Oldraver · 16/11/2013 00:31

Top shelf of the downstairs wardrobe wrapped in black bags. Oh calls it Santa's little corner.

Elsiequadrille · 16/11/2013 00:51

One of the attic rooms.

iklboo · 16/11/2013 01:17

Our wardrobe, but to be honest we've left some of DS's presents in a box on the dining room shit heap table and he hasn't even looked.

DTisMYdoctor · 16/11/2013 13:24

There's a fair bit stashed in the boot of the car (which I really must move) but mostly in spare room/large cupboard, which DS wouldn't really look in.

youarewinning · 16/11/2013 13:29

I have a large built into the property double (and then some!) wardrobe. In there on a top self I have all sorts of storage boxes (xmas decks, photos etc) and 2 suitcases.

Guess what gets stored in the suitcases Wink

Asheth · 16/11/2013 13:30

Mine are all in suitcases on top of my wardrobe. Safe as long as we don't go away anywhere before Christmas! If there is anything big - like the scooters last year- then they go in the loft.

2kidsintow · 16/11/2013 18:38

In the box under my bed or in my wardrobe.

DD2 knows about both these places (as she gleefully informed me the other day) but they never go looking to find the gifts (thank goodness!).

jester68 · 16/11/2013 18:52

My eldest daughter's bike is under our bed- luckily the box fitted and there is no picture on it so they haven't taken any notice.

The rest are in a huge box on the chest of drawers in my room. Box is sealed so cannot look in it. Luckily they are used to boxes of things in our room so take no notice.

AndiMac · 16/11/2013 21:29

I'm glad to read that it's not just myself that uses the general chaotic untidiness of their home to hide the presents in. Not talking about anyone in particular, other than myself, just a feeling I'm getting from reading about some of these hiding spots, lol.

I put mine in our big holiday suitcases which have the wee padlocks on all year round, so they wouldn't think to try and open as they don't know the code! And suitcases are in same cupboard all year - they've never found a pressie yet??!

makemineapinot · 17/11/2013 23:01

Oops, didn't mean to do question marks!

chubbychipmonk · 17/11/2013 23:30

The bike for DS is currently in my MIL garage! The rest is in the loft. . Fortunately they're still too young to reach up there!

Titsalinabumsquash · 17/11/2013 23:34

Ours are in the downstairs toilet (room not the actual toilet itself) I've locked the door from the outside and told the kids it's broken. I make occasional noises about the plumber taking so long to fix it but they just shrug and don't question it.
