John Lewis wont price match Amazon, only high street retailers (kiddicare counts as they have a physical store, they price matched à trunki for me)

giraffeseatpineapples · 13/11/2013 20:15

No, I think they only price match high street stores who are also online

FourFlapjacksPlease · 13/11/2013 20:23

I bought this pop up Harry Potter book for DS - it arrived today and is really fab. It has removable posters and bits and pieces you can take out of the book. A really good buy for £8.49 and will be giving it to him with the snitch off this thread, a time turner I got from an amazon seller in China for a couple of quid, and tickets to the Harry Potter tour. He will love it!

Does anyone know if Argos will have another 3 for 2 on toys before Christmas?

JaquelineHyde · 13/11/2013 20:32

ThisIsMeNow you can bloody tell them that I got it all. I would be happy to give you my name by PM so you can prove it.

As far as complaining goes it's not so much what you say but how you say it. Polite assertiveness is a must, it can take a while to train yourself to be comfortable doing this but well worth it.

The best telephonists I have trained and had work for me are the ones who are able to always control a conversation whilst letting the other person think they are controlling everything Grin

For example I tell someone what has happened in a very factual, do not question what I am saying way and then soften the assertiveness by ending with 'oh goodness I am just so frustrated with everything, I really hope you can help bob (always use the persons name it forces a connection of both warmth and concern ie if they don't do their job properly you have a name to go back with) I just don't know what to do'. I laugh to put the person at ease and wait for them to come to my rescue.

9 times out of 10 this gets a favourable response in a simple complaint.

However, long and complicated complaints need a more direct forceful attitude, you need to know what the basic complaints procedure is and use it. Speak to the next person in charge and then write in if needs be, with this approach you must be prepared to follow up and keep pushing.

A lot of complaints employees don't really suit complaints as they either are a total push over and lose a company a fortune or they take personal offense to anyone who challenges them and they get all shirty and power trippy. I love toying with these people. Grin

I complain about everything, no complaint scares me. 8 out of 10 times I get what I want and the other 2 times I have probably been being unreasonable and so shouldn't have got anything anyway Grin Grin It's always worth a try though.

To even it up I always, always compliment staff and products when they deserve it and I encourage everyone to do the same. It used to mean the world to me when I got a thank-you or a compliment.

Sorry for the ramble, if anyone needs any help just give me a shout.

FourFlapJacks- I have added the HP book to my ginormous basket! Thanks!

Emails and letters are a completely different ball game as well as you are almost eliminating the chance to pander to a persons better nature by stroking their ego.

I have written some epic letters for complaints but also read some absolute stonkers when I worked in customer service.

I remember when I worked at Tommee Tippee one lady wrote to complain about a bib and accused me of wanting her child to look like a poverty stricken street urchin that wouldn't look out of place on the streets of Delhi. She went on to explain how she liked having clean children and that she was surprised that I appeared happy to have filthy children and suspected that social services were a frequent part of my chaotic life.

I had spoken to this lady once, it was a pleasant conversation about a stained plastic bib. I apologised and asked her to send it to me with a covering letter and said I would get it sorted straight out for her. When the call ended she was perfectly happy with the outcome, or so I thought!
