I like herbs, grandpa cannot abide them, MIL and DD1 tolerate them .... thyme on the carrots... coriander on the parsnips, parsley on the mash..... trouble is no choice, so I buy my own and do them rather than have 2 or 3 people round the table only eat turkey and roast potatoes....
I'm afraid my elderly relatives are all of the plain food persuasion -

unless it is salt or white pepper..

Thanks for the feedback. I think a better idea would to make my own in advance and freeze them. Which was my original idea and why I bought foil trays last time I was in Costco. Right, time to pull out the Christmas magazines Confused

Does anyone know when slots will be available? It's getting on my nerves!!

worm77daisy · 05/10/2013 07:56

Just to let you know slots are available for Waitrose Click and Collect up to and including Christmas Eve.

mumtoone1 · 05/10/2013 09:17

Think it'll be the 10th Rudolph, when it goes live..

My basket is sitting at £80 and counting...

I'll be ordering from Sainsbury's again this year, much cheaper, same quality, much easier to park and no queues.

They do a Christmas food booklet same as M&S, you pre order, pay a deposit and book a slot.

MIL always orders from M&S and it's always a kerfuffle.

Marlowmarlowmarlow · 05/10/2013 09:46

We ordered beef from Waitrose last year, picked the only collection a lot available which was Xmas eve. Got there and not only was the delivery lorry late, it didn't blinking turn up at all. None of the special £70 beef I'd ordered for us!! I couldn't believe it Shock. We had people coming for dinner too.

I was mightily pissed off. They did manage to get us a joint of beef from the shelf but not the same sort as we'd ordered and it was ok, but not the treat posh one we actually wanted.

So I emailed and complained as I felt totally let down. Their only response a few days later was along the lines of 'sorry about that but we're really pleased the staff in out store were adaptable and got you some beef' Not the f'ing point that we'd ordered special stuff, looked forward to it for weeks and were let down.

I used to be a real fan of Waitrose but felt totally let down and wouldn't order again.

Not that I'm still bitter....

Hello there, wondering of those of you in the know might be able to advise.. I might be doing my first Christmas this year at home- eek! I was thinking of doing an m&s/ waitrose does Christmas type thing. I'm not the sort of person that does a regular Sunday roast otherwise I think I'd be a bit more confident. So (and this is going to prob seem like the silliest question) but if I wanted to have 11 for dinner (inc kids) would I bed to order 2 of those turkey crowns? They seem to only feed a smaller no of people- do they actually go as far as they claim?

bymoonlight · 05/10/2013 10:42

icedteaonesugar - Do Sainsburys have it online?

IcedTeaOneSugar · 05/10/2013 12:43

bymoonlight The booklet isn't on-line yet, I keep looking :)

GemmaTeller · 05/10/2013 12:44

Why are all the starters fish based?

mumtoone1 · 05/10/2013 13:55

The duck pate looks good. I'm getting that as a starter

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/10/2013 18:41

I had the duck pate for New Year , it was lovely.

RudolphLovesoftplay · 05/10/2013 18:43

Lizard, I'm in exactly the same situation :) I am also a bit confused by Turkey sizes!!

spottymoo · 05/10/2013 19:17

Does anyone know what the sell by dates on things tens to be I'm thinking of ordering a cooked ham it states that they have a guaranteed sell by date of 26th ours isn't likely to be eaten to the 28th.

RVPisnomore · 05/10/2013 19:48

Spotty be careful I've ordered m&s Xmas food for the last 4 years and all the food had a use by date of 26th!

spottymoo · 06/10/2013 08:38

Thanks for that a feelin it might

IcedTeaOneSugar · 06/10/2013 17:36

My MIL always orders tonnes of M&S food to pick up on Christmas Eve, DH has to go with her, they use the collect by car system and he backs the car into the loading bay, there's too much even for the two of them to carry it to the car park.

It all goes out of date on the 26th, 27th at best.

bymoonlight · 06/10/2013 17:38

I want the Sainsburys one to go online. Esp if its cheaper.

Is the same thing? Collect it from the counter and easy to cook?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/10/2013 17:50

I've never had problems with the best before dates from M&S at Christmas. I pick up on Christmas Eve, and it always has about 4 or 5 days on things. And to be fair, most of what I order is eaten by Boxing Day.

spottymoo · 06/10/2013 18:21

Sainsburys book comes out the 15th

JC74 · 06/10/2013 18:25

I'm an M&S employee and we've been advised that the launch date for brochures and ordering is 10th October. Not long now!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/10/2013 19:55

Oh JC74, that's good to hear - do you know if they are offering the wine for early orders again this year?
