I'm trying to decide what veg to do. So far:
Roast tats
Roast parsnips and carrots
Red cabbage

what else? Don't want spouts

It'll be great Methe as will the caviar.
We used to live in Russia and bring back tins of it for one and all.
Those were the days!

smartyparts · 22/12/2011 22:12

Sweetcorn!! Why not have baked beans too!

We have - roasted potatoes, roasted butternut squash, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, peas and sprouts (yuk, even though dh tries to make them palatable by cheffy-ing them up) and leaks in white sauce.

No, snowmaiden, that belongs in a Burns supper but not a Christmas dinner Xmas Wink

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 22:16

I save the mashed carrot and turnip for Burns Night.

SkivingAgain · 22/12/2011 22:17

We have every single veg that any of us like to eat - sprouts, carrots, peas, swede, cauli cheese, roasted sweet potato, parsnip & beetroot, roast and mashed spuds, brocolli, cabbage.... which means lots and lots of leftovers for Boxing day and the day after and the day after that and.....

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 22:17

I'd rather have the caviar, though I'm not a huge fan,I do like it. Oysters are horrid,at least raw,and they gave me my one and only case of food poisoning.

MrsJohnDeere · 22/12/2011 22:18

Yes, because it is the yummiest of all veg. We will be having it but with beef rather than turkey.

NormanTheForeman · 22/12/2011 22:20

I also hate oysters (even though I come from a family of oyster dredgers!)

NotnOtter · 22/12/2011 22:24

noooooo

carrots and swede - lots of!
sprouts - loads - all al dente
this year doing roast parsnips, red onion and chantenay carrots

i think that's it!

snowmaiden · 22/12/2011 22:39

We have,

Carrot+turnip mash!!!
Roast parsnips,
Sprouts (wish had interesting and easy recipe for these)
Roast potatoes
Stuffing balls (sausage meat ones)(and NO BLOODY pigs in blankets! WTF?)
Turkey
Gravy
Apple and cranberry sauce

LordOfTheFlies · 22/12/2011 22:42

roast potato- Maris Piper, cut big and 'ruffled up' in the pan to make them crunchy
roast parsnips rolled in breadcrumb and vegetarian parmesan
carrots- par cooked then finished with almonds and butter
sprouts- of course
turnip- cooked and pureed with butter and black pepper

and I use the water from the veg to make 'Mum's Magic Gravy' as DD calls it

Bread Sauce- will do this year but DCs will turn their noses up.

No brocolli but doing Brocolli and Cauliflower in cheesesauce with pasta for Boxing Day.

NotnOtter · 22/12/2011 22:42

snowmaiden yours sounds about right
coccyx - yum yum sounds perfect!

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 22/12/2011 22:45

We have roast pots, roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots, brocoli, caulie and peas. All in big serving bowls so people can choose what theyd prefer.

ShirleyKnotChristmas · 22/12/2011 22:48

SPROUTS. Are you an actual idiot?

(Potch = swede plus carrot mashed, the beauty of this is that you can boil the buggers up Xmas Eve, mash and the microwave Xmas day

Green beans - not ideal but an option

Sweet potatoes?)

SPROUTS!!!!

snowmaiden · 22/12/2011 22:50

OOOHHH this is making me hungry- can't wait for the roasties!!!!- what fat do you cook yours in everyone, and does it make a big dfference- I always use olive oil but have some beef dripping in the fridge (left over from pastry I made a couple of weeks ago) and thought I might use that?

Goose/Duck fat for good roasties snow - do you know the weirdo semolina trick yet?

msbaublestwinkle · 22/12/2011 22:54

Brussels sprouts with chestnuts and bacon,
Cauliflower cheese,
Roasted parsnips,
Carrot and swede mash.

Tis what my DM always did, thus making sure she didn't need to cook for days afterwards.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 22/12/2011 22:54

I forgot roast parsnips.

learningtoflyasleigh · 22/12/2011 22:56

< shakes head bemused at the hatred of sweetcorn and comparisons to baked beans - seriously? >

It's not enforced eating of veg. I don't force people to eat all the veg offered. It's there and they can decline it if they want.
