Ohhh I bought some Blinis and smoked salmon today! with creme fraiche though, will that matter??

I also bought some caviar. Never had it before!

Mil always does 3 types of potato.. Boiled, roasted and mashed. I just want roasted.

noddyholder · 22/12/2011 20:01

No broccoli just parsnips sprouts carrots and red cabbage. Every year I make soup as all my lot love it every year they all say maybe not have the soup next year as its so filling. I am pleased with this then when I say no soup this year they all freak out and demand it Grin

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 20:11

I don't want just two types of vegetables Moondog. They're my favourite part of the meal. I don't care if it's wrong.Grin And mine are certainly not grey and boiled to death.

AwayinaKayzr · 22/12/2011 20:12

No. Broccoli doesn't belong anywhere.

thestringcheesemassacre · 22/12/2011 20:14

I love cauliflower cheese but prefer it boxing day with the cold meats.
Yes roast potatos + carrots and green beans for me.

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 20:16

I have a mixture of asparagus, broccoli, parsnips, carrots, beetroot, green beans, red cabbage, cabbage, peas, cauliflower and cheese etc, depending on which meats we're having, always two. This year it's turkey and salmon. Usually 3 or 4 types of vegetables. Two isn't enough.

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 20:17

And two types of potatoes. Always dauphinoise, and boiled with herb butter or roasted baby potatoes.

IceCreamCastles · 22/12/2011 20:18

No.
Parsnips
Mashed swede
Carrots
Peas
Sprouts

And only one form of potato (roast

MustControlMincepieOfDeath · 22/12/2011 20:20

Don't want sprouts!!???? Shock Shock

learningtoflyasleigh · 22/12/2011 20:21

And what's wrong with sweetcorn?! It's about the only veg ds will eat! And I like it, I'm cooking so its in :)

learningtoflyasleigh · 22/12/2011 20:27

Mind you this thread takes me back to the great vegetable argument of Christmas 1994 when my grandfather who was cooking, cooked 10 different vegetables for Christmas day dinner. He used every saucepan from his and my mothers kitchen. And left the washing up.

Trouble is I can't remember which veggies he cooked now although I remember asparagus being there :)

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 20:29

Sprouts are evil.

MustControlMincepieOfDeath · 22/12/2011 20:30

sweetcorn!! asparagus!! Shock Shock

nickelhadababyYesLord · 22/12/2011 21:28

sweetcorn's okay if it's tinned.

you cannot have asparagus in fucking December.
you may only eat asparagus when it's BRITISH and in season, therefore, May and a littl bit of June.

mrsmplus3 · 22/12/2011 21:49

no. i dont know why but weve never, ever had broccoli with christmas dinner even although we have it about 3 times in a normal week.

carrots, sprouts and parsnips are our only veg at christmas (and roast potatoes obviously).
peas, turnip and mashed potatoes on new years day.

AnnoyingOrange · 22/12/2011 21:52

Surely you can have whichever veg you prefer. That's what we do

GrimmaTheNome · 22/12/2011 21:58

Brocolli is much nicer than sprouts. I'm not sure whether to do any or not - DD doesn't like it, but does like savoy cabbage so I'll be cooking some of that. The only other green veg she likes is marsh samphire which definitely doesn't belong with xmas dinner! Grin

debka · 22/12/2011 21:59

Roast potatoes. Roast parsnips. Carrot and swede mash. Sprouts.

NO broccoli, sweetcorn (wtf?) or asparagus Shock

debka · 22/12/2011 22:00

grimma nice stealth boast there, marsh samphire Grin

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 22:02

I can have asparagus whenever I like.Grin

Besides,I buy pounds of the stuff when in season, and blanche and freeze it.

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 22:04

Or perhaps even blanch it. So there!

coccyx · 22/12/2011 22:06

A plate of brussels and gravy will do me

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/12/2011 22:06

I wait until near the end of the season, when they usually sell it half priceyes, I'm a cheapskate, and buy bunches and bunches of it.
It still tastes good after being frozen imho.
