Roses or Quality Street?

Whats your preference ladies. When i was a kid it was always a big jar of Roses my mum used to buy. My naughty bro and myself worked out a way of gently twisting and easing the lid off without breaking the seal so we could nick the odd purple one out of it before christmas.
Anyhow what do you prefer,Roses or Quality Street? Im trying to decide which to get this year. My preference is usually Roses but in later years ive had Celebrations and Heroes at xmas.
DH used to prefer Quality Street but then they removed the Peanut Cracknel and ever since he wont eat them on principle.
I didnt try the Lindor choccie truffeles until Easter this year and they are lush but they are TOO nice so i would end up eating too many. So if you absolutely HAD to choose would it be Roses or Quality Street for you.

They are both shite.
Prefer a nice bar of plain chocolate without sickly centres or filling-removal toffees.

usualsuspect · 20/11/2011 18:14

They were £4 a tin in Asda

I may have to get one of each , Roses for the caramel barrels and QS for the fudge ones

reckoner · 20/11/2011 18:15

neither

tethersend · 20/11/2011 18:17

I don't know. It's too hard.

Roses have orange creams with milk chocolate and caramel kegs...

Quality street has green triangles...

Quoses?

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 20/11/2011 18:20

Tethers - I'd willingly send you the orange creams

Trills · 20/11/2011 18:21

Roses orange ones are nastily artificially orange. Quality Street orange ones are much nicer.

nenevomito · 20/11/2011 18:21

Quality street use Dark Chocolate on their creams which is much nicer than milk.

popbiscuit · 20/11/2011 18:22

Can I just add that on an ordinary day I wouldn't touch that type of confectionery with a ten-foot pole; would much rather have a piece or two of really good quality dark chocolate. However, there is something about the festive season that demands you lay aside all notions of food snobbery and healthy intentions and embrace the shite naff and sickly.

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without that slightly guilty feeling and the coffee table littered with little scraps of coloured foil. It's very satisfying to now watch my own children squabbling over the last toffee penny Grin.

Tequilamockinbird · 20/11/2011 18:23

Heroes, every time!

But, between those 2 - Roses. Cadbury's chocolate is nicer!

joymaker · 20/11/2011 18:45

Hehe tethersend and popbiscuit (completely agree) Grin

tethersend · 20/11/2011 18:51

Chipping, I'll swap your orange creams for the purple ones with the stale chewy hazlenut in.

Milk chocolate is best on orange creams and can be found NOWHERE other than roses plain chocolate ruins them.

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2011 18:54

I thought it was just me who thought the hazelnut was stale tethers. Grin

KWL51 · 20/11/2011 18:57

Roses!! We can have roses now xh used to work at rowntrees (nestle) as do all the in laws so we had to have them to show solidarity apparently but now you can stick your cheapo horrible tasting chocolate for a slightly nicer tasting cheapo cadburys chocolate :)

countessbabycham · 20/11/2011 18:58

Absolutely QS with the green triangle.Plus Mint Matchmakers. And the Ferrero Rocher with the silver ones.

FlamingoBingo · 20/11/2011 18:59

OMG! Am I really the first person to say 'Roses because QS is made by Nasty Nestle'? Shock

(although don't really like either - too sickly Grin)

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2011 19:01

I quite like the Cadburys 'mint pringles'. Can't remember what they are called?

bigTillyMint · 20/11/2011 19:01

If it had to be one of them, then a tin full of the Quality Street green triangles.

EmmaRoyd · 20/11/2011 19:05

Roses but can I add Fererro Rocher and Guylian seashells

TapTapTapPenny · 20/11/2011 19:05

Crumbs, FB, you are too Shock

Always prefered Roses, wouldn't buy QS now anyway.

AvadaKedavra · 20/11/2011 19:06

QUOSES

What a fantastic idea!!

olibeansmummy · 20/11/2011 19:09

Borntofolk you're about 10-15 years behind on the chocolate front Sad they took the coffee cremes out when I was a child Angry

I just like whatever I'm eating at the time, but this year we have QS but will prob also get miniature heroes for the cadburys fix Smile

Jellykat · 20/11/2011 19:12

Oh, Quality Street every time.
Plus a 'big purple one' in the DSs stockings.. mind you i seem to be having trouble finding them this year, think they've morphed into something else Sad

olibeansmummy · 20/11/2011 19:13

< is now seriously considering cracking open said QS > lol

Catsmamma · 20/11/2011 19:15

We buy both, but I only eat the green triangles and the purple ones.

Dh is the only one who likes the toffee fingers and toffee pennies, BUT he eats all the others first!

I liked the tins of choc orange segments and toblerone triangles, but did not see those anywhere last year.

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2011 19:15

Jellykat they are more bar shaped now. They have them on the tills at Morrisons. Smile
