... still waiting on a parcel with no idea if it's going to arrive in time!?

Dad ordered a game from tesco for ds (second most wanted item on his list of 4 items he actually is hoping for). He ordered it 8 days ago but it hasn't arrived yet. But other items I've ordered since then (not from tesco) have turned up today; including via courier as well as royal mail package.

As I haven't ordered it myself I can't chase it up to find out how/if it's coming. Dad is in New Zealand too so not so easy for him to chase it up either.

Am in south east and we've not had any snow for a couple of weeks now. Well that was true up until an hour ago and now I reckon we have an inch. So can't think why it's late other than lost or royal mail too over whelmed with back log possibly.

Don't know if I should wait a couple more days or should I just assume not coming now and run out and but it and then send parcel back if it does turn up Confused.

Anyone else in a similar position?

Hmm. I ordered a book from the UK for my mum the week before last.

I didn't realise quite how bad things were there at the dispatch end, rather than the delivery end. I am not going to get it by Friday, am I?

whatagradeA · 21/12/2010 11:55

nadia I've just had an email from amazon, basically detailing what Happydays says. Keep an eye out for an e-mail with links to get a refund, or you must be able to do it through my account and then once you have your refund just refuse delivery if the parcel arrives.

NadiaWadia · 21/12/2010 12:03

Thanks HappyDays and whatagradeA

NadiaWadia · 21/12/2010 12:08

The refusing delivery might be tricky though, as I am still expecting 7 different Amazon packages, so won't know which one it is!

HappyDaysAreHereAgain · 21/12/2010 12:10

Don't worry Nadia, Amazon are brilliant and will refund no problem so if you accept the parcel just request a returns label and they will refund. Other than that, I wonder if the order ID will be on the box so you know which one to refuse?

huglinson · 21/12/2010 13:18

post does seem random at the moment. I ordered a tangle teezer 2 weeks ago from amazon that only came today, but stuff ordered last week arrived at the weekend.

good luck everyone, glad I did most of my shopping in Oct/Nov

chatee · 21/12/2010 13:30

yippee,
my missing parcel(well i hope it is as can't check as have other dc with me,but am not waiting for anything else) for ds arrived today BUT i was extremely lucky
had to go out to take ds to his best friends birthday party(normally a 10 min car journey was the best part of an hour),driving on a road near home i spot a hdnl delivery vehicle parked at the side of the road and stopped and asked the driver if he had a parcel for our address and yes he had just been and popped one of their notes through the door and had managed to drive to where he was and the van had broken down,so he was stuck there....bless him but lucky me and i now have the parcel in the boot of my car..
thank you ELC my faith is restored.

Bellbird · 21/12/2010 14:27

Still expecting Amazon parcels from 2 weeks ago, but the stuff my ILs posted on Thursday 2nd class has arrived Hmm

Our milkman has made it every day so why not the postman who is, frankly always a bit lack-lustre? A productive employee like our milkman deserves all the praise (don't worry - he got a tip). He gets up just after midnight to do his round which in this weather he is still doing gone eight o'clock and manages to keep cheerful despite it being -12 degrees C!

HollyBerryLelloHoHo · 21/12/2010 17:44

I'm waiting on Amazon stuff too - nothing crucial, thankfully, but I'm still a bit Xmas Hmm about it. Every other delivery has managed to get here. I can only imagine that Amazon's local sorting office has collapsed under the strain!

OsbegaEthewulf · 21/12/2010 18:06

smellsliketeenstrop I'm waiting for stuff from Belmont citylink depot as well. Don't know why they aren't delivering as weather isn't bad at all really. Narked as I paid extra for next day delivery from John Lewis!

PassionKissUnderTheMistletoe · 21/12/2010 18:06

My Amazon parcel came today, after I had given up all hope! Keep the faith people!

funtimefairyintinselledwincies · 21/12/2010 19:15

I'm waiting for an M&S order done 8th December. Luckily it's not presents but I'd still like my stuff!

It's been sent to my 'local distribution centre' Xmas Hmm. If that means my local sorting office I'm screwed, judging by the chaos there whenever I have to collect a parcel Xmas Sad.

sharbie · 21/12/2010 19:19

phew phew phew ds main present arrived today via ebay. Grin i was so not expecting that and a parcel for dd ordered last wednesday.two others from amazon came yesterday with the postman so i think we have everything.good luck to everyone else!!

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 21/12/2010 19:43

All you people having trouble with Amazon, are you in snowbound areas? Or is this a general problem?

Housemum · 21/12/2010 19:47

I wonder if they are dealing with the top of the pile first - I ordered Christmas presents on the 9th that haven't arrived (DD3 asked for Peppa Pig books from Father Christmas, just been to Sainsbury's to buy an annual in case they don't turn up, only other things in there were my pressies but I'm a big girl and can wait) - but the poxy help-your-child-with-maths book that I ordered last week to help DD2 and didn't expect unitl next term turned up today!

Greedygirl · 21/12/2010 21:13

I have finally recieved all my parcels from Amazon...ordered on the 4th of Dec and recieved the last one today. Our local post office had to keep turning back deliveries and everything was stored in a big warehouse until they could work their way through the backlog. We had two deliveries on Sunday! Fingers crossed that everyone gets their deliveries on time.

vesela · 21/12/2010 23:01

According to a post on the unofficial Royal Mail chat site, there's a temptation to deal with parcels on a last in - first out basis (as opposed to first in first out, which would be fairer), because Royal Mail managers want to meet their targets by delivering at least some of the mail on time - so the parcels that are already running hopelessly late are left until last, because they won't mess up targets.

Also Royal Mail apparently overhauled a lot of their methods recently, too close to Christmas (i.e. they should implement these things in March or something!). So it hasn't yet got through to them that, for example, the postmen can't do these new rounds in the time allotted - and when there are a lot of parcels, which take more time to deliver, it goes to pot all the more. One guy said his round factors in one minute per parcel to be delivered - not even enough time for someone to come to the bell.

I also wonder if Amazon's gradual removal of the spending minimum for super saver delivery hasn't made a difference. You used to have to group your orders together - now people can order as many small books/CDs as they want, and so there are lots of little parcels to track/sort etc.

The other thing that was said on the site is that very often the Amazon tracking info isn't up to date b/c they don't have time at the mo to put them all through the tracking system before delivery.

vesela · 21/12/2010 23:08

I'm not going to use super saver delivery any time in December again, though, snow or not. You get what you pay for, basically. Amazon must have super saver factored into its business model, like other companies offering free delivery, but when you think that they're also discounting the books as well... something's got to give!

vesela · 21/12/2010 23:10

although the two large Amazon orders I did with supersaver delivery were sent via Home Delivery Network and came fast. They were ordered at end of November, though.

Lusi · 22/12/2010 00:12

Waiting on 3 RM deliveries - 2 amazon and one e-bay...was going to order(amazon)at end of Nov - but then it snowed ... so waited till it improved and ordered on the 5th...only for it to snow again on the 6th...Xmas Sad
Amazon split my ordered into 7 packages - with delivery from 9th to 15th Dec. One due on the 9th and one on the 14th both still haven't arrived - all the others are here -even the other one due on the 9th. The home delivery network one was 2 days late.
E-bay one should have been here by the 17th at the very latest...
RM are definitely doing last in first out ...
To make it worse I missed high street shopping time because the schools were closed for a week - so ordered more than I was going to from Amazon - so I could get it when the children weren't around...
E-mailed Amazon - for them to say wait till the 21st and if it hasn't arrived we will refund or send you out another which will not arrive before Christmas ...
School broke up today - 21st - so now if the parcels do arrive will have nosy children (usually can pass off as something for work - but now I've finished for Christmas too!) If they don't can't go and get them on the high street ..very Xmas Angry

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 22/12/2010 00:14

Loads.
One (important one) that Tesco reckons was delivered on Saturday. Xmas Hmm

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 22/12/2010 07:35

I'm waiting on one parcel which was posted 1st class on 7th December, and things from Tesco clubcard vouchers (magazine gift subscriptions) which were ordered a month ago. Going to be too late for Christmas now for those. Some I guess I'll take the loss and keep myself, but I don't particularly want a Gardeners World subscription! Guess that'll have to be a Mother's Day present instead, and I'll get something else for Christmas if I can get out through the snow! Also waiting on an Amazon parcel which they estimated should have been here by the 13th. And something I sold on Ebay and posted 1st class on 29th November still hasn't arrived so am probably going to have to refund it.

gillybean2 · 22/12/2010 07:59

Got two more RM packages yesterday that I hadn't been expecting.

And we went to the zoo yesterday (irrelevant but...). I have to say we passed so many delivery vans attempting to deliver parcels it was unreal.
I certainly looked like they were doing their best to get everything out. Well, round here at least. But our snow is all gone now and we didn't have all that much to start with in reality.

Hopefully everything will get where it needs to be in time. Still three possible days for deliveries after all...

I'm still waiting for a book from Amazon ordered on 4th December. I ordered two of the same book at the same time. One arrived quickly. No clue as to why they weren't just packaged together.

GailRSPB · 22/12/2010 09:52

It is so frustrating, I love online shopping normally as it is easier than traipsing down the high street in bad weather, but when things don?t turn up there is nothing you can do about it grrrrr. I am still waiting on one of my presents for DH. If all else fails my back up plan is to print out a picture of it, put it in a box and wrap that up with a note saying that he will get it as soon as the weather clears up! I am also falling back on a print out for my friends? daughter. The book I ordered still hasn?t turned up (arghhhh) and we are seeing them this evening so I have cheated a bit and bought her the RSPB Wildlife Explorer membership instead. She is quite into wildlife and nature so I think she will get a lot out of it (fingers crossed!). It is an easy option for me as I help out at the RSPB and although the goody bag won?t turn up in time I have printed out the gift certificate and wrapped it in a box so at least she will have something to open. The book (if it ever turns up) will have to be for her birthday! Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting and merry Christmas!
