Well we seem to have filled up the last one so I started a new one. Hope that is ok with everyone!

Jacaqueen - I finally remembered to have a look at my Angel Chime. It is small - about 10 inches tall. Very light metal. Easy to put together. Looks ok. Word of warning - was searching for who it was who asked me and came across a post from someone whose parents had one and it burnt their table! So they get v. hot.

Oh, and balloons are always a winner for advent calendars, here. Blow one up each day and end up with a room full of them by Christmas Smile

taffetacat · 29/11/2010 11:30

Oh Bucharest I can't wait! Envy

The decorations are tantalisingly in reach, I am restraining myself but I won't be able to contain myself at the weekend. We don't get the tree til the 12th, but the other decorations can surely go up before???

Bucharest · 29/11/2010 11:33

I get to do it twice! Here, (tree isn't here yet, am just dusting stuff down and getting it ready) and then after the 17th when I get back to my Mum's...all the old baubles I remember from being a child that I won't let her throw out. She's also under strict instructions not to ever dare do the tree before I get there!

Littlepurpleprincess · 29/11/2010 12:27

Thankyou. X

hobbittoes · 29/11/2010 14:31

Sybil, just dropping in to say no luck Sad. All manner of odd push-in bulbs but none that match - good luck with your obsessive continued search........

Iamcountingto3 · 29/11/2010 14:36

Hello all. I posted early on in thread one, and someone was talking about a spiced hot chocolate mix. And I didn't keep up, and now I want the recipe and I can't find it
Would one of you uber-organised women find it for me??

Just reporting back - have taste tested spiced hot chocolate and it is seriously good. This makes quite a lot - I have made 3 gift bags from it and may even make some marshmallows to go with them. I did it by volume, just adding things to a large measuring jug and then mixing together.

350ml cocoa powder
350ml finely chopped dark chocolate (I used most of a 200g bar)
350ml caster sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Add 2-3 tablespoons to a mug of hot milk.

It was really creamy and chocolatey and tasted a bit like those German Christmas biscuits. Was good anyway.

domesticsluttery · 29/11/2010 19:44

Please can I join in? I have been stalking you reading the thread for a while, but only today have felt sufficiently poncetastic to post.

We spent the day today at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, which truly is an extravaganza of Poncetasticness (Poncetasticicty?). It was -11 when we arrived, so I had to partake in a couple of glasses of mulled wine to get me started...

Poncetastic purchases today include:
Christmas pudding
Decorations for my (homemade)cake
Marmalade to glaze my ham
Handmade chocolates
Pate
Cheese
Handmade Christmas decorations

I have also put my order in with the farm shop today for Christmas meat, including slow reared free range turkey and ham from saddleback pigs.

I am feeling very poncetastic Grin

TealAndBiscuit · 30/11/2010 10:26

Does it count if you do poncetastic badly?

I made my own Cake toppers (fondant), but the robins look more like ducks with red faces.

TealAndBiscuit · 30/11/2010 10:27

Excuse random capitalisation of 'Cake'.

Iamcountingto3 · 30/11/2010 11:01

Thanks Tinypaws Smile Where are the Xmas Smiles anyway....?

PiggyPenguin · 30/11/2010 11:40

Thanks anyway hobbittoes it was very good of you to look for me.

I will let you know if I manage to triumph against the odds...

BudaisintheZONE · 30/11/2010 13:29

Hi all. Have been reading and keeping up but not posted for a while.

Have just sorted fruit for another Xmas cake. Am making a big square one to cut up into four and ice and give as presents. Decided to use Nigella's recipe this time. Hope it's good. Have promised one to a friend and have earmarked the others for our babysitter and cleaners. Flippin' eck it took a lot of booze! 600 mls!!!! Of DH's whisky! Thankfully he got given 4 bottles for his birthday on Friday so I used most of one of those.

Will be digging our Xmas mugs and placemats etc tomorrow. Will allow myself Xmas music then too. And have been trying to figure out where I can put some outside lights easily. Only place I can think of is one of the bedroom balconies. DS keeps spotting those funny Father Christmases that people hang as if they are climbing in the window! I think they are a bit tacky but may just do one anyway to make him smile!

Have started writing my Xmas cards but need to get a wriggle on with that.

Bought the last of DS's presents today so can start wrapping them. I may do that on Thursday when he is at school.

Thinking of making some apricot chutney. Does anyone know if it is too late? Was meant to do it in October but never got around to it.

Ooooh I'm certainly having a go at the festive hot choc. I may adjust the recipe a bit as we have a glut of drinking chocolate in the house so I might try substituting that for the cocoa+sugar & see how it tastes.
Tried tree spotting on the way home from work last night - didn't see one (excluding anything outside parish halls & in hairdressers windows).
I need my decs down soon - I think thats where I stashed the Christmas cards & I shall get the nativity/advent thingy out for DD tonight. It is the advent stable from Lakeland so quite cute.

4plus1 · 30/11/2010 16:53

Am going to make that festive hot choc this evening it looks yum!
I'm being very good at restraining myself at the moment. I've put a few festive throws and scented candles around but am determined to wait till next week before I begin in earnest! Also am waiting on flipping painter to finish! Hope the smell of paint doesnt interfere with poncetasticness!
We went to visit santas cottage in the mourne mountains on sunday with dc. Its his official residence in Ireland apparently! It was lovely, a beautiful cottage and farm with a real reindeer and the snow falling lightly. The road was lined with pine trees and it was like being in lapland. Magical for the dc.

pigindisguise · 30/11/2010 17:22

am going to make the festive hot choc too - sounds delicious.

TinyPawz what did you put it in as gift bags - would those cellophane bags be ok?

TinyPawz · 30/11/2010 20:30

Oh....wasn't me!

I just found SeriousWispaHabit post for Iamcountingto3.

That said, I would imagine those bags with nice ribbon would be a lovely gift!

Jacaqueen · 30/11/2010 21:59

Sorry to spoil our lovely thread but I need to have a little rant.

Earlier this month the education authority saw fit to have 3 in service days which messed up my schedule a little. Now it seems that mother nature also has it in for me as the children have been at home all week due to the bleeping snow!

Here I am trying to be all poncetastic and the little darlings are insisting on glitter and tinsel. Not to mention the fact that I cannot get near any decent shops due to our village being practically cut off.

On the plus side I am well ahead with watching all of the Christmas dvd's and when the outside of your house looks like Narnia you dont really need to worry about fairy lights.

My lovely 'kissing stags' oilcloth table cover did arrive today (thankyou Royal Mail) so this week hasn't been a total waste.

Oooh - tell me about kissing stags Jaca!! Had to use 2 days holiday here as the snow meant nursery was shut - aarghh! Have to pray she doesn't get sick between now & the end of Jan or I'm stuck.

Might do some salt dough decorations today with her.

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 01/12/2010 09:38

Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

but no [fbear] Xmas Sad

SuePurblybiltByElves · 01/12/2010 15:46

Oh, my life is complete Xmas Grin Is that it?
Just brought home my tree (lovely spruce, only 4 foot as low ceilings) and I have it on a hamper thing in a bucket wrapped in ribbon and jute sacking. Ponce agogo

Top Tip - if you have no stand, put logs - split fire ones - in the bucket standing up and wedge the trunk in. I used three 12 inch logs in a bucket. Works perfectly.

I've put the lights on (plain white natch) and am waiting for DD to come home from her fathers to help me decorate. Bearing in mind school run tomorrow, lots of work to do tonight and in the morning, AIBU to open a bottle of cheapo Christmas fizz to have when decorating the tree? What do the Poncers say?
