Well we seem to have filled up the last one so I started a new one. Hope that is ok with everyone!

Jacaqueen - I finally remembered to have a look at my Angel Chime. It is small - about 10 inches tall. Very light metal. Easy to put together. Looks ok. Word of warning - was searching for who it was who asked me and came across a post from someone whose parents had one and it burnt their table! So they get v. hot.

Webwiz I pinched an idea from one of the magazones last year to deal with my very bare wall in living room. It is now adorned with lots of wreaths. It looks very well, everyone comments on it

Thanks Ladies - I cleared one of the table tops (it had several odd gloves and a flute on it) and now have a gold NOEL, a bowl of baubles and three candles of different heights. I've also got an artificial garland that is in swags on the banisters and will add greenery to that next week. I bought some clip-on purple and gold butterflies this morning and have put those on it as well - no doubt DH will be Hmm about that! I'm making two salt dough garlands of hearts and stars as well - one will say "Happy" and the other "Christmas".

Hope you don't get too much snow taffeta.

I like your idea of the bauble on ribbons on the stairs 4plus1. Sadly we have weirdy stairs so can't pinch that idea.

We are supposed to be having a big party here on Sunday. The snow is coming down. Again. Please Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!Somebody please send some sleet vibes to Kent.

I have lots of poncetastic food planned, and have no idea whether to bother prepping it. I was going to make those dear little reindeer cupcakes that a previous poster on here recommended. I shall hold off til tomorrow I think.....

No further additions to the tree, apart from having the presents underneath. As soon as the eldest gets in from school each night, there's a present feeling session between them. They are very excited.

Have you access to much greenery? Could you do a garland along the bottom of your stairs? I use an artificial one as a base and then attatch fresh stuff on. At this stage foilage will keep looking ok for the last week even if its not in water. Put some of your dried orange slices on if any left. If you cant do the whole stairs how about wrapping just around the baulastrade,(sp?) at the bottom.

Or another stairs idea which is quick is thread ribbon onto a bauble. Hang inbetween two spindles of your stairs, tying ribbon around the handrail. Do this every 3/4 spaces up the stairs.

Thank you - I am now a bit more inspired! I'll keep you posted on what I use.

We're picking DD1 from university on Saturday (snow permitting) so that means my hallway will be full of bags of washing rather than lovely decorations. Xmas Smile

Do you have a crib you cld display? Or do an arrangement using garden greenery in oasis w a candle in the middle. Love the bowl of baubles idea.

taffeta love your tree!!!! Has it acquired anything else?

I have stalled a bit on the poncification due to work but finish today so hope to rev up for next week. What is everyone doing this weekend? We might be going to visit f Christmas in his cave.

Webwiz how about a NOEL message on one of the tables, a bowl of baubles/pomanders, swathes up the stairs, kissing balls of mistletoe or cranberries...

Can any fellow Ponces please help with my decorating dilemma? My living room looks very festive with the main tree and some vases of fairy lit twiggy things, the kitchen has the folksy things - my twelve days of christmas wall hanging, the knitted elves and my dried orange and cinnamon wreath and the dining room is very poncey in purple and gold with the second small tree but my hall way looks very bare. I need ideas for how to decorate it, its quite large with a curved stair case and a couple of narrow tables. I have a couple of days at the start of next week before the visitors arrive but my poncey instincts have completely deserted me.

Almost decorating time here now. DD is 1 on Friday so the tree can go up at the weekend!

Have embellished the stockings I bought with felt letters already ready to be hung. Going to marzipan cakes today I think as I want to ice them over the weekend too.

Getting quite excited Xmas Grin

LOL couldn't find any hairclips for DD (4) this morning. Just tidying up, rearranging the tree a bit, noticed the tree is wearing them all. How about that for melange?Xmas Grin

It sounds like fun to make, anyway!

I'm liking sequins - very bling. Perhaps I will take less inspiration from the lollysticks ... they don't grow wild round here you know ...

Quilting - wow, that sounds lovely. I've got an image of a very Homes-and-Gardens kitchen festooned with greenery - I'm right, aren't I? Wink

Cranberry macadamia cookies

Makes 20 ( I normally make double or triple )

125g very soft butter
185g golden caster sugar
1 medium egg lightly beaten
185g plain flour plus extra for dusting
1 tspn baking powder
50g whole macadamias
50g dried cranberries

2 large baking sheets, lightly oiled or lined with baking parchment

Preheat oven to Gas 4/180c/fan 170c. Using electric whisk cream butter and sugar for 3-4 mins. Gradually add egg, whisking. Sift in flour, baking powder and half a teaspoon of salt. Roughly chop macadamias and cranberries add to mix and stir all together. Bring mix together with your hands and form a ball. Halve the ball then cut one half into 10 pieces. With lightly floured hands, roll each piece into a small ball. Transfer to one of the baking sheets and press each one gently to flatten slightly. Bake for 18-20 mins on centre shelf. Form the other half into balls. When first batch ready, put second batch in. Leave cookies to cool for about a minute no longer or they will stgcik, then, using a fish slice, carefully transfer to a cooling rack. Repeat with second batch etc.

Keep for a week in airtight container or also freeze well.

Ok am going to brace myself for day 2 of xmas decorating. Too many interuptions meant I only got a bit done yesterday. My tree is a real one and lovely and scandinavian (?sp) with red and white hearts and bunches of cinnamon, meanwhile 'their', (dh&dc) is as eclectic as some of yours!

Report
DecorhatetheChristmasTree · 12/12/2010 08:43

Well our tree went up yesterday. Would have preferred to wait till today as we had lots on yesterday but ds1 couldn't wait.

It has loads of glass baubles which I've collected in recent years & Dd and I were hoping to just add a few white decorations so that it would be "tasteful" in her words but ds1 moaned that he wanted it to be more colourful so we have allowed a few red felt decorations. Have hidden the less tasteful ones for now!

Need to do lots of tidying up today so we can get the rest of the stuff up...
