Taking a vote: Do kids really love new PJ's on Christmas Eve?

I am thinking of starting it with dd, who will be three at Christmas. It will be the first years she understands anything about Christmas so seems like a good time to start it.

I'm thinking of wrapping a present up with:

A new cup for her
A sachet of hot chocolate
Some edible glitter
A christmas Book (maybe a night before christmas)
New Pj's

Do your DC love it when you do it? Or does it just lost amongst everything else that happens at Christmas?
Did you grow up with it and do you have fond memories of it?

We do the new PJ thing (DS1 9yr and DS2 5yrs) and they really love it.

We then have hot chocolate with marshmallows by the fire and then hang up our stockings.

Greensleeves · 17/09/2010 14:44

we do Snowman Night on Christmas Eve

first we make snowmen out of card tubes/cotton wool/fake snow/glitter etc and put the around the house

then we make and decorate snowman biscuits and eat them

then new snowman p0js and we watch "The Snowman" while having hot chocolate and marshmallows

then put stockings out and mince pie/carrot/sherry before bed

cherrymonster · 17/09/2010 14:49

i have always done this, i do believe i put it on here last year or the year before and everyone did it, which i think is wonderful my parents alwasy used to choose a gift for us to open on christmas eve, and i carried on the idea but modified it slightly so we all get pyjamas (always christmassy ones) and slipper socks. then we sit with a christmas dvd (polar express, muppet christmas carol or miracle on 34th street normally) and hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and some yummy food, and we have a copy of the night before christmas bto read before bed.

PosieParker · 17/09/2010 14:50

We do it, the children love our Christmas Pyjama fairy...but last year we were broke and buying four sets was a nightmare!!

pantaloons · 17/09/2010 14:53

We go to Christingle then come in have baths and put new jammies on. Then I sit back and think "bugger it, if it's not done it isn't getting done". Bliss!

We always had new Pjs, dressing gowns, slippers etc on Christmas eve, i have continued this on, wouldnt be the same else.

I do a 'Christmas Eve Hamper' which will be left on the doorstep by one of santa helpers on Christmas Eve. I cant wait!

New PJ's each
New Slippers/Bed socks
Bag of Reindeer Food (Porridge oats with lots of glitter with note saying 'sprinkle on your lawn at night, the moon will make it spakle bright, as santas reindeer fly and roam, this will guide them to your home ')
New Christmas DVD
Book (Twas the Night Before Christmas)
New Cup each with Special Hot Chocolate (marshmallows sprinkles etc)
Box of Malteasers
Special Bubble Bath (going to make some bath fizz for them, citric acid, bicarb soda, milk powder and coca powder)
Santa Plate & Cup (for santas goodies)
Cookie Mix (to make some biccies to leave out on the 'santa plate')
New Blankets for Kids
Santas Special Key

And anything else i can think of.
I LOVE CHRISTMAS Grin

BabyDubsEverywhere · 17/09/2010 15:16

My dc(dd 6 and ds 3) love it, we have a visit from an elf, oddly he always comes whilst they're in the bath Grin He brings new pj's each, last year he brought a dvd but this year i suspect it'll just be the pj's.

After the bath they get to open the present, put the new pj's on and then we do the carrot/mince pie etc etc and settle down to watch a nice christmassy dvd before bed and hanging stockings on their door or at the end of the bed.

Faaamily · 17/09/2010 19:16

Yeh, we do it for the kids and they love it.
We do new PJs, hot chocolate and chocolates , a Christmas film on DVD and a Christmas bedtime story.

It makes Xmas Eve nice n cosy.

seeker · 17/09/2010 19:17

I actually think it's my dc's favourite bit. And they were 8 and 13 last christmas!

plonker · 17/09/2010 19:32

My dd's love their Christmas Eve PJ's - they can't get out of the bath quick enough to find their PJ's waiting on their beds Grin

They're 10, 7 and 3

Cuppycakequeen · 18/09/2010 19:57

My girls (oldest now 15!!) have always loved this, new jammies and a special book to read has always given our christmas bedtime routine a structure that we all enjoy.

Depending on how flush I'm feeling they sometimes get a new fleece or pretty cushion or cuddly toy to go on their beds. The year my 3rd dd was born I made them all patchwork quilts which they all still keep on their beds to this day - she's seven now :D

Hulababy · 18/09/2010 20:00

The package sounds fab. I assume the glitter is to sprinkle on top of the chocolate drink - DD loved edible clitter, lol.

DD gets Christmas PJs/nightie on Christmas Eve. The Christmas Fairy leaves them under the tree - normally at my parent's house, as that is where we usually visit before heading home for Christmas Day.

Alouiseg · 18/09/2010 20:01

You all make me feel like a negligent Mother Blush

ravenAK · 18/09/2010 20:02

We do this - JL are brilliant for Xmassy PJs.

Also, on 1st December, I dig out all the old Xmas PJs (stored with the decorations) & they each get at least one pair to wear throughout December & until Twelfth Night.

I always buy Xmas PJs big, so they get last year's & the younger two get another pair handed down.

SuperLapin · 18/09/2010 20:16

Just asked my DC's and DC1 (8) has just said Christmas pyjamas is the BEST part of Christmas.

So I guess that's a tradition that's going to stick around our house.

bytheMoonlight · 18/09/2010 21:02

Wow - the best part! That is impressive SuperLapin.

Do you wrap them up? put others things in with them? When do you give them?

OP posts:
mizu · 18/09/2010 21:10

We did this for the first time last year after reading a thread on here and my dds (4 and 5) loved them. Will definitely be getting them new pjs for Xmas Eve again this year.

bytheMoonlight · 18/09/2010 21:12

Can I ask did everyone actually buy Christmassy PJ's?

OP posts:
amistillsexy · 18/09/2010 21:14

Matalan have some lovely warm brushed cotton PJs at the moment-that's what my 3 will be getting!

Hulababy · 18/09/2010 21:19

bythemoonlight - no, it is very unusual for DD's PJs/nightie to be Christmassy in design. They are normal nighties.

bytheMoonlight · 18/09/2010 21:28

Thats what I was thinking of doing Hulababy.

Now I just have to find a suitable Chirstmas book for her Smile
