Just wondered what the norm is for the amount of times for hair washing per week

I feel like a real scummy mummy having read this thread. My kids hate it and we only do it if there is food / paint / glue that needs to be washed out. Like once a month....

You'd never know it just looking at them though.

suzywong · 22/09/2008 14:29

once
tow crewcutted boys
nice wipe with a cold damp flannel around the brow and back of neck daily though

bellavita · 22/09/2008 14:30

2 Ds's 11 & 9, hair washed every night in the shower

probably twice a week for the girls

every other night for DS - BLW = all sorts in his hair!

GooseyLoosey · 22/09/2008 14:39

Once a week. I hate it, the kids hate it. I could not bear to do it more frequently.

Octothechildherder · 22/09/2008 14:41

Once - sunday + nit comb. Ds3 maybe twice as gets lots of food in hair.

chunkychips · 22/09/2008 14:43

I wash ds's hair (5 years) about twice a week and dd (20 months) hasn't got much so don't really bother at all, perhaps a few times a month. Just wet it in the bath.

claireybee · 22/09/2008 14:43

DD once every 10 days-2 weeks unless she gets stuff in it.

DS never. Well, not with shampoo anyway, I do rinse it out when he gets food etc in it though.

claireybee · 22/09/2008 14:44

Why is it that as soon as someone mentions nits I start itching like crazy?

pagwatch · 22/09/2008 14:45

DD once or twice a week
DS2 whenever I can catch him
DS1 used to be the same as DS2 but has recently discovered girls so now at least every other day followed by - hairdryer and discreet ( ie non poncey) use of 'styling products'

3 times a week.

Tuesdays and Thursdays after swimming lessons, and Sunday night before she returns to school.

HuwEdwards · 22/09/2008 14:50

twice - once in the bath and once after swimming lessons.

Szyslak · 22/09/2008 14:50

Have 2 boys wash their hair about every 6 weeks or so.

I actually think I could leave it even longer, their hair never looks dirty or greasy or smelly.

In fact it looks the same after I wash itas it did just before.

Think I might as well wash it even less.

ditheringdora · 22/09/2008 14:51

twice a week for my 2 year old dd, her hair is so shiny and smells like a meadow afterwards. sigh

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2008 14:52

Octo we do nit comb on a sunday too.

nooname · 22/09/2008 14:52

No more than once a week unless there's something in it, also only brush it when it's washed (ds (2) has very curly hair) so it only gets brushed once a week too!

Imo kids' hair only really needs washing occasionally or when it's actively dirty, it's not like grown-up hair.

Lazycow · 22/09/2008 14:54

a week? I probably wash ds's hair (now 3.8 years old) about once a month unless it has paint or glue in it or something

Mummy2Bookie · 18/02/2011 19:23

Dd has her hair washed twice per week ATM. But she's started running greasy and dirty hands through it so we will have to wash it more often from now on.

Schulte · 19/02/2011 20:39

Ummm... never? DD2 has grommets and I can't work out how to plug her ears properly so I just avoid getting them wet altogether Blush

gourd · 22/02/2011 15:47

Every night - my mo DD has a bath every night anyway (as part of her bedtime routine), so we may as well wash her hair whilst she's in the bath.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/02/2011 15:49

Once or twice a week for 3 year old DD. She absolutwly detests having her hair washed and she doesn't really get anything in it.

DownyEmerald · 22/02/2011 21:39

twice, but I try not to don't stress if I don't manage more than once. It looks lovely fluffy on day 1, but day 2 looks like day 3 looks like day 4 ...
Always do it before parties, gps visit etc etc.

Meglet · 22/02/2011 21:42

DS (4) and DD (2) three times a week, Mondays, Weds and Fridays with the anti-nit shampoo. They get quite grubby at nursery Smile.

mankyscotslass · 22/02/2011 21:43

DS (8) 2-3 times a week, always after sport.
DD (7) once a week
Ds (5) once a week
