Just wondered what the norm is for the amount of times for hair washing per week

Once a week (or even once every 10 days) for ds1 (2.4). He absolutely hates it. Much screaming and thrashing around occurs. I have to close the windows as he is that loud.

Every 2 or 3 days for ds2 who has next to no hair but is more amenable to hairwashing.

bobsyouruncle · 16/09/2008 14:05

once a week

NotBigNotClever · 16/09/2008 14:05

Once a week, but I rinse stinky little ds's hair every night as he always manages to get some supper in it.

expatkat · 16/09/2008 14:09

Has always been 3 times a week, but not for any particular reason. The kids are 6 and 9 now, but I've always done it that way...well, at least since they've had proper hair.

Miyazaki · 16/09/2008 14:10

once a week for big girl, pretty much every day for little.

ilovetochat · 16/09/2008 14:10

is my dd the only 1 who manages to get every course of food in her hair, so far today there is cheese, yoghurt, bread and cereal pasted on with milk and he hair is stiff. i have to wash it every night and she screams the house down.

zazen · 16/09/2008 14:10

Once a week for my DD - she can sit on her hair it's so long. I've never cut it.
It's in a long plait all week - brushed daily and checked for headlice every thursday now she's in school. I sometimes put Jojoba oil in it if it's looking dry.

No hysteria, she stands under the shower and we have lots of conditioner. when it was shorter it was way more tangly? Now it's longer it's much easier to manage.

i think I'm seeing the pattern that boys get their shorter hair washed three times a week and girls with longer hair once a week?

cheesesarnie · 16/09/2008 14:12

i have boys and girls.all once a week.

cheesesarnie · 16/09/2008 14:12

i mean boys and a girl

MatBackFeck · 16/09/2008 14:16

I do mine every time they are in the bath which is every night apart from the odd late night when when weve been out and don't bother. Everyone expresses amazement that we bath them every day but I am quite into that sort of things and often have 2 showers a day myself. I don't use harsh shampoos amd often put almond oil etc in their bath and they both have lovely soft skin and nice shiny hair!

piratecat · 16/09/2008 14:45

number of times has reduced as dd has got older, and has more capacity to control what goes in to her mouth (not via her hair)!!

Now i can tie her hair back it is easier.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/09/2008 14:46

about once a quarter?

wb · 16/09/2008 16:01

About once a month for ds1 unless it has mud and paint in it. He's 2.

For ds2 every couple of days - he's 7 mo and thinks his dinner makes a good shampoo.

expatinscotland · 16/09/2008 16:02

every other day

maidamess · 16/09/2008 16:02

When it starts to smell.

compo · 16/09/2008 16:05

4 year olds ds - once a week
2 year old dd - twice a week as she tends to eat with her hands and then smears food into her hair ..... lovely

TigerFeet · 16/09/2008 16:05

two or three times a week

it was more often, pretty much every day, but she isn't such a messpot these days thankfully

Amaris · 16/09/2008 16:11

About half a time a week, on average. Obviously we are at the grotty end of the spectrum.

Amaris · 16/09/2008 16:14

Erm, maybe I should add that's the mean and not the median - clearly I don't wash half of her hair at any one time.

Sycamoretree · 16/09/2008 16:21

DD once a week - long hair - can't bear the trauma of having to brush it and get the hairdryer out.

More if the amount of congealed porridge/egg/jam is starting to draw looks or insults along lines of "You child is like Mrs Twit" .

DS every night cos he's still a babe and it just gets sudsied up with the rest of him!

GroovyChic · 22/09/2008 10:35

Every night or if I'm lazy every other night.

midnightexpress · 22/09/2008 10:37

Our rule:

'When you smell like a dog, we wash your hair'

DS1 sniffed my head last week (the day I had washed my hair) and informed me that I 'smelled a bit doggy'.

angelene · 22/09/2008 10:38

Rinse it every night so I can comb out the curls, but I don't bother with shampoo or conditioner at all (unless there's something rank in it). I think that products dry the hair out.

stealthsquiggle · 22/09/2008 10:43

Blimey. I wash my DC's hair every evening in the bath - but they do have very fine, easy to wash hair, and DD's generally features samples of everything she has eaten during the day. Occasionally they skip a day.

LongDroopyBoobyLady · 22/09/2008 10:44

dd1 (13) - every other day
ds (10) - once/twice a week
dd2 (6) - about 3 times this year!
