White eye in photo! worried a little

My DD2 has been refered to hospital for a stigmatism and long sighted, we have been waiting 2 months and now have a letter with list of hospitals to call for an appointment. I spent 30 mins today trying to book an appointment but no luck
I have been sent a pic, when youn can clearly see one red and one white eye. Im getting alittke worried. Has anyone had this and things been okay??

Have you noticed the white eye in any photos of your DD2? If you haven't, then please don't worry additionally. Your DD2's appointment seems to be for somethign else. Keep trying with those phone calls. It is one of the most irritating tasks around.

i can see what you mean. my little brother lost his eye to a retina blastoma when he was 2, and iirc the photo that we picked it up in looked v different. however, you should def get it checked out. call your gp, they will be able to organise a quick appt. it may just be the angles of her eyes.

Is that in the second photo from the top? It's a small photo so not v clear. It doesn't seem to be the case in any of the other photos. Good luck with getting an appt. I hope it will put your mind at rest.

Is it in all photo's, lots or just a few.

The direction of the pupil relative to teh camera flash can cause "false" white eye pics. I think this is worse where their is astigmatism as the eyes face in different directions (or have I confused a stigmatism with something else?).

You are right in that one red eye and 1 non red eye or white white eye and one red eye in the same photo can indicate retinoblastoma. I believe that there are other causes though - and as I explained above the presence of a stigmatism makes it more likely to get teh red eye/normal or red/white combo in teh same picture - without it being anything (more) sinister than a stigmatism.

I am sure all is fine, once it has been checked.

Thhis photo was on my camera, I spotted it today when I was looking at my pics. I phoned Lisad to let her know to get it checked out. I have put it on my profile and its larger..

lisa, there is one photo i have of my dd3, where one eye is whiter than the other. the other eye isnt red, but more pink iykwim. she also has a squint, but at that point didnt, and i didnt know she would develope one, as her eye check was months away, when i got told she would develope a squint at some point. apart from dd3 obvious sight issues which you know about, she does not have retinoblastoma. she has had many eye checks at local hospital due to her sight issues.

it will probably be nothing, but it always best to get these things checked out.

i would go back to the GP and ask them to push through for an urgent referral to eye clinic to get it looked at, but it is probably very likely down to do with her angle of the eyes.

I see what you mean....SGKs pic is much clearer.

I still don't think that with a stigmatism the 2 different eyes is as significant as in a child without stigmatism....as it is about how the 2 eyes differ to the same source of light...but because the eyes are aligned in slightly different directions with a stigmatism they will react differently to teh flash. If it is a one off photo I think it is less important too.

However, am am certainly not an expert on this.

Has your GP seen this photo? I would be tempted to make an appointment if he hasn't and see if you can accelerate the appointment (whcih I realise you havn't been able to book).

thanks thats what I thought too. Im not very worried, but thought i would ask on here as somone has some experience of everything
Im getting pretty pissed off about the eye appointment. If I have no joy tomorrow I will call the GP.

been to GP tonight, he wasnt 100% so has advise us to go and see opictions (sp?) tomorrow. fingers crossed

Lisa...don't be surprised if the opticians doesn't refer to an opthalmologist at hosp with such a small child anyway.

I think they need to look at teh retina to diagnose properly which, in small children, I think has to be done by a specialist. Not sure at what age though an optician would start to do it on the high street as opposed to an opthalmologist if that makes sense.

grr i am so
I rang optician, and they have refused to see her, because she is so young
I rang eye clinic and they only recieved referal yesterday even though she was last seen on 23rd JULY!! They cant rush it though unless GP calls, and at the moment we are looking at 6-8 WEEKS!!
The GP is calling me between 10-10:30 today, so will see what he says. Looks like we might have to go private which is just so stupid I am so upset, i need to calm down before GP calls

Right GP called we have to go back tomorrow morning, for second opinion.
On advice of GP I have taken more pics, now added to my profile. God im so scarced right now

I dont mind too much but in retrospec if i was a pushy cow and had no penies at all, i would be buggered

Keep pushing with the GP. Maybe check out some of the Retina Blastoma websites for hints on what to say to get a quick referral.

I would take it seriously, a child I know had this - they found out when she was a baby through white eye in photos, my cousin also had it as a child. Even though it's very likely your dd has something more trivial I wouldn't want to mess around.

Hi there, my dd has stigmatism in both eyes, is ls and has a severe squint in left eye, have just looked at my digital camera and have only realised the white spot on her eyes in some of the pics and in some its pink/red! Always just took that to be to do with the light reflecting?

She had her first hospital appt last month and we're back next week, they did eye tests to see how bad her sight was, a lot worse than id ever realised! (as a result of the squint) we patch her good eye in the evening (will go up to 6hrs a day) to strengthen the week one. Tbh it is quite upsetting but she is so happy to be able to see properly now you feel happy for them too! They gave us a prescription there and then and i took it to the opticians that day. She will be under the hospital for many years they said as it is a slow process. We took her to Watford General so she could be under the Consultant Dr Baroumputi (think ive spelt it wrong!) as a surgeon friend of ours suggested her outside of Moorfields.

All of the women at Watford general i saw, the opticians, consultant etc were flippin fantastic with my dd and me, i cried like a baby! As far as i can see from the people i know who are under the childrens eye clinic there are happy and think they do a really good job.

gosh i went on a bit there! sorry!
