Vomiting, tummy pain and private pain

MuireannOg · 17/03/2026 18:04

DS 10 woke up in the early hours of Sunday vomiting we thought was just a 24/48 hour bug and he’s been off form and feeling sorry for himself. He’s laid on the couch most of the day has been drinking lucozade sport hasn’t kept much of it down. He had a slice of toast last night and that came back up about an hour or so later. He told me this morning he had a little problem trying to wee and had to force it out. I have gotten him an out of hours GP appointment at 9pm. I noticed he was walking a bit funny but though he was mucking about. He’s not vomiting as much but has lots of dry retching.

He now tells me his privates hurt, everything looks okay there but it hurts a the pain goes down his left leg and up to the left side of his tummy. I’ve given him calpol and a hot water bottle over his PJs to see if it helps. The weird thing is he doesn’t have a fever

im in two minds weather we just take him to A&E or wait 3 hours for the GP

I’d do A&E I think. What if it’s a testicular torsion or something?

Mischance · 17/03/2026 18:23

I'd do a&e with this. Torsion of testicle can have long term consequences and is jolly painful.

ChocHotolate · 17/03/2026 18:25

I’m afraid another vote for A&E. Testicular torsion although reasonably rare is a time critical condition.

numberblocks54321 · 17/03/2026 18:26

Need to rule out testicular torsion which is a medical emergency - A&E asap I’m afraid . Good luck OP

MuireannOg · 17/03/2026 19:00

Thank you I do think most of me was on the fence to go to a&e we are heading there now. Since the hot water bottle the pain is now both sides down there. Hopefully A&E isn’t to busy on paddy day night

It could also be appendicitis. Pain gets referred in funny ways to other parts of the body. Best to get checked out asap. Hope all goes really well for you and you’re seen quickly.

OtterMummy2024 · 17/03/2026 20:39

Could also be a UTI. I hope it's something mild and he's better soon.

Realisation14 · 17/03/2026 21:57

Glad you went to a&e, hope they're not too bunged.

MuireannOg · 18/03/2026 01:40

We are waiting for an ultrasound for him. He’s very tired and still vomiting after anti sickness. I’m glad we came here the pain there has gotten worse and now hurts both sides and both legs 😩 He’s had some medicine and is a lot more settled but still awake

MissSmiley · 18/03/2026 04:42

How is he doing? Has the ultrasound been done yet? My DS had similar symptoms from appendicitis at 13. I hope he feels better soon

Villanousvillans · 18/03/2026 04:45

I hope he gets sorted quickly and he’s ok.

Realisation14 · 18/03/2026 07:06

Poor boy, you'd think they'd consider putting him on a fluid drip considering the anti sickness meds haven't stopped his vomiting.

MuireannOg · 18/03/2026 07:33

we are still waiting for the scan. They started him on fluid around half 3 he has stopped vomiting but has not stopped dry retching. He’s come out in a bit of a rash on his belly and is very mottled all over we are waiting for the doctor to come back in to see him. He’s just been laying there an not managed to sleep much 💔

If he deteriorates and you are worried the hospital isn't taking it seriously, don't forget you can ask for a second urgent opinion https://www.england.nhs.uk/patient-safety/marthas-rule/

It sounds like he should be started on antibiotics. I think you should kick off about how poorly he is.

Lochroy · 18/03/2026 09:08

How’s your son this morning? This kind of thing is so worrying.

Isadora2007 · 18/03/2026 09:09

@MuireannOg Your poor boy- how is he now? Hopefully You have some answers and a treatment plan underway.

MuireannOg · 18/03/2026 13:36

He’s much the same. We are waiting for a bed on the ward the want to do a camra into his tummy his bloods have come back high for infection. They’ve stopped him eating and drinking for now he’s not been sick since this morning but still feels like he needs to be sick. We had the scan about 10 this morning that was okay one side is smaller than the other why and what that means yet there not saying. But they have said there’s no signs of a twist the consultant will be round later to see him. Hes slept on and off this morning

I really don’t know what’s happening he’s back dry retching for the last few hours and they can’t give him anymore medicine for a few hours. The camera is booked for tomorrow morning so hopefully we will have answers. Everything hurts again tonight too 😩💔

What a horrible situation for you.

Of course he's in the right place, but that doesn't mean you can't keep on at them to check and then check again.
Hopefully you will get some sleep and tomorrow will bring some answers.

stickydough · 18/03/2026 22:35

Your poor boy, you must be so worried about him. I hope the retching settles and he has a peaceful night, and that you get some clarity on what is going on soon.

Villanousvillans · 18/03/2026 22:47

How awful. I really hope he improves soon. 💐

sellthebigissue · 18/03/2026 23:18

Hope hes better soon OP x

ErinLacey · 18/03/2026 23:31

Another message of hope for you and your boy x

MuireannOg · 18/03/2026 23:38
