Called back to consultant after DS brain MRI continued

Hello everyone, I’ve started another thread which continues on from this one

www.mumsnet.com/talk/childrens_health/4574553-called-back-to-consultant-after-ds-brain-mri?page=1

im blown away by you all, with your support and encouragement. Your messages really have been comforting and a distraction, I’m so grateful.

family background - I don’t have 6 children to run around with at home 🤣 I have three adult children with 2 at uni, and one a mummy herself. My youngest three are 13, 7 and 2. My 20 year old daughter who’s back from uni is staying with my parents and looking after her little brothers while we are here. Once things have settled with DS with pain we will bring them over and they can stay in Ronald McDonald with us.

Also please please, if you’re in McDonalds, please round up. This helps pay towards the amazing house we get to stay in which has been a god send. I can’t wait to start fundraising for these amazing people when this is all over xx

Thank you for the update, I am in awe of how you're coping. I have a friend who travelled a similar road and her and her little boy just amazed me. I'm glad treatment is progressing, as hard as it is. Count down those days until this is all behind you and your DS (and rest of family). Thinking of you Flowers and Gin

Nottogetapenny · 12/11/2022 00:37

Yes we are still here, any time you want to ‘chat’. Your world has been turned upside down. It must be so hard. Going day to day not knowing if it’s going to be a good or bad day,. Hope your dear boy has many more good days than bad.
Sending strength and wishes that your dear boy, will get all the help and treatment to make him well again. 😘💙🌸

Flowersinspringgrowwild · 12/11/2022 02:09

I was thinking of you just yesterday. Sending masses of strength. X

ExhaustedFlamingo · 12/11/2022 04:34

Oh bless you for taking the time to update us OP. What an incredibly tough time for you and your darling boy. Keeping everything crossed that it continues to go well. Sending lots of strength, love and good wishes.

BlackSwan · 12/11/2022 06:31

Proton is over - fantastic milestone. The tiredness your DS is experiencing now will hopefully pass soon, I remember my son also went through this.
I'm sure you know you need to take care of yourself with this marathon you're running with your boy. I would encourage you to speak with your GP about your mental/emotional wellbeing. I was offered CBT, which I didn't take up considering the time required... but I did start antidepressants (escitalopram), which helped clear my head a lot.
It's a massive shift from normal life/working and being independent to becoming a full time carer (the nameless 'mum' in a hospital setting) but in time you will regain normality. Sending strength. x

Thinking of you always, @nearlymumof5 - you and your darling boy are doing incredibly well and I’m so pleased proton is done and sending you lots of strength for the next few months. Hugs, prayers and light to your family xx

Xtraincome · 12/11/2022 08:22

OP, you are welcome to gobblygook your way through life at the minute. The grammar police have no place here and your most recent post was a great update to behold and easy to understand.

So pleased you have some sparks of positivity amidst it all. Are you able to do anything for yourself on your own for a bit? Even just a coffee out or walk with a friend/solo. I know it's hard leaving him but even just an hour here and there for your own wellbeing?

Take care OP.

Sending you so much love Flowers

Letsgoforaskip · 12/11/2022 09:29

You and your boy are truly heroic. I am so sorry that you’re all having to go through this. Your love and positivity shine through.
Sending you and your family loads of love and strength ❤️

“I’m now a carer rather than a working mum,”

you’ve paused your career to attend to a family crisis which is as it should be. I’ve done the same and whilst I had no choice I look back with a kind of satisfaction and also gratitude that the finances bore it.
you’re still you.

friskybivalves · 12/11/2022 09:40

You are working so incredibly hard - to shower love and care on those who need you most. Amazing update and many thoughts with you for the next few weeks. It sounds encouraging that the proton is done. All good wishes.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 12/11/2022 11:01

My thoughts are with you for the months ahead as the treatment continues.

I still think of you all often and I am glad to hear your update. What a brave boy you have!

Your own mental health is on one very understandable rollercoaster, and that’s to be expected. The most important thing is you are all together x
