Hello everyone, I’ve started another thread which continues on from this one

www.mumsnet.com/talk/childrens_health/4574553-called-back-to-consultant-after-ds-brain-mri?page=1

im blown away by you all, with your support and encouragement. Your messages really have been comforting and a distraction, I’m so grateful.

family background - I don’t have 6 children to run around with at home 🤣 I have three adult children with 2 at uni, and one a mummy herself. My youngest three are 13, 7 and 2. My 20 year old daughter who’s back from uni is staying with my parents and looking after her little brothers while we are here. Once things have settled with DS with pain we will bring them over and they can stay in Ronald McDonald with us.

Also please please, if you’re in McDonalds, please round up. This helps pay towards the amazing house we get to stay in which has been a god send. I can’t wait to start fundraising for these amazing people when this is all over xx

It’s been a week 💃 so he had his mri last Monday and there is no evidence of disease!! We had a big party for him on Sunday to celebrate his end of treatment and yesterday he had his central line out yesterday. He said on the way home from hospital he’s happier than ever 🥺 He will need MRI’s every 3 months to make sure it doesn’t come back and I think for the that’s the scariest as we’re now out of active treatment, but I’ve just got to stay positive! One of the chemos has caused high frequency hearing loss, so we will need to have regular check ups for that too, thankfully it doesn’t seem to be affecting his every day hearing. Oh and he’s managed to go back to school and is coping well, a few early pick ups and half days but he’s loving being with his friends! I managed to get some tickets on the Matilda lottery so today we’re off in to London for a special treat to watch his favourite musical. I’m so grateful for all of you for caring and being there since that day before treatment, I feel as if I have lots of strangers that are my friends, thank you xx

This is fantastic news! As a former breast cancer patient, I completely empathise with that feeling of being out of active treatment (which is amazing obviously) but losing that protective cloak around you. Having said that, even 3.5 years on for me, I know I can ring or go in at any time and they are there for me. It will be the same for you, if not more so.

I'm so happy for you all. Very best wishes 💐

I have just caught up . So, so pleased for you all, what a fabulous update xx

Beaboo82 · 08/11/2023 07:07

I've just watched Kaidens story. What a gorgeous family you are. I loved your idea with the beads for Kaiden, I can't imagine what you've all been through and I hope with all my heart Kaiden just goes from strength to strength. I hope you are able to get support too, is there emotional support for parents of children going through cancer? It must be hard beyond words X

nearlymumof5 · 25/04/2024 10:05

Hi All, it’s been a while, but I wanted to let you know that sadly Kaiden relapsed. An MRI in March showed a tumour in his spinal cord. We are now back in treatment which he is coping with really well. We’re praying that this chemo will shrink the tumour, as surgery and radiotherapy are now considered too dangerous because of where the tumour is (it is in his neck). In the time between relapse we managed to go to Disney Paris which was amazing, and have just recently got back from center parcs which was a lovely break! Kaiden also fulfilled his biggest dream and auditioned for BGT which was shown on Sunday eve. We’re having fun and trying to fill each day with as much happiness as we can. I know there’s so many of you that think of us and I’m always so grateful for this little thread community xx
