As the old thread is filling up I thought I would get a new one started!

This thread is for anyone with a child with asthma, or asthma type symptoms. Between us we have to much experience of inhalers, nebulisers, steroids, sats and all things asthma!

Soooo Ds now had diahorea!
Good grief...
So it's another 48 hrs off school.
I am going in to see them today.
Sigh.
It's all very well them saying " his chest is clear" but he has been coughing all night again and is obv not well.
Any thoughts/tips?

Badvoc123 · 14/10/2014 10:34

Back to gp again this morning.
Dx Ds with bronchitis and gastroenteritis.
:(
5 says of ABs.
If he is no better by Friday I am taking him back
His sats were 94 and he is crying because his chest hurts so much.

lollipoppi · 14/10/2014 12:49

Sad Badvoc he's having a real tough time at the moment isn't he, I hope these abs kick in soon for him
You must be exhausted I hope your looking after yourself too?

Had to start DS on inhalers this morning after coughing all night, he is currently asleep which NEVER happens,

lollipoppi · 15/10/2014 17:32

Picked DS up from pre school, he was in a state. Coughing non stop, I gave him some inhalers and took him straight to the doctors, he's on pred.
Il be having words with the pre school tomorrow, who assured me they are confident in dealing with asthma and knew how to use inhalers effectively Sad

Badvoc123 · 15/10/2014 20:06

That's worrying lollipop :(

Badvoc123 · 17/10/2014 17:21

Ds seems a bit better but not loads iyswim?
And he finishes his ABs tomorrow.
So I have ordered an O2 sats finger monitor (from amazon - £16) so I can keep check on his sats.
If he is no better next week I will take him back.
Hope everyone's else's little ones are ok x

lollipoppi · 18/10/2014 08:54

That's good Badvoc, hope he is over the worst now. I have one of those sats monitors too

DS is much better I think we got the pred in him just in time
I had a word with ore school and they were doing his inhalers wrong (even though I had shown them the technique) they were putting 6 puffs in the inhaler all at once Confused

DS has his appt on Monday with his consultant

Sirzy · 18/10/2014 09:07

Hope he carrys on improving bad.

Good luck for the consultant Lolli.

DS is plodding on. Still can't reduce ventolin but is pretty stable at least

Badvoc123 · 18/10/2014 09:51

Lolli...that's really shocking!

Sirzy · 20/10/2014 13:06

Had to pick DS up from school today after a big asthma attack. Thankfully they dealt with it perfectly and he is much better now just tired. Going to keep him off tomorrow just to be safe but hopefully it won't develop

OP posts:
lollipoppi · 20/10/2014 14:18

Oh no Sirzy, glad he is doing ok and good to know the teachers dealt with it perfectly

DS had his appt today with his consultant, all was ok and no changes to meds

Sirzy · 20/10/2014 17:28

Glad the appointment went ok

PeppaIsACowbag · 21/10/2014 18:26

Hi hope everyones dc are ok.

DD had her first appointment with the asthma nurse today she was really nice and helpful, gave me her mobile number incase im ever worried. She's decided to carry on with both pumps and the montelukast, she's changed her brown inhaler to the peach one though as DD is really struggling to take that one.

Had a good listen to her chest and her lungs are all clear thankfully, been a bit worried as she's coughing lots just lately, been sick a few times with it poor thing.

WellThatsLife · 14/11/2014 21:54

How often do you find your dc need steroids. dd had a course at the end of september(5 days then a 6 day reducing course) and she's back on them already, i know she needs them but i am worried about the frequency

Sirzy · 15/11/2014 06:54

DS has them anything between 4 and 8 times a year. Less now than when he was younger as he is now more controlled than he was

OP posts:
Sirzy · 23/11/2014 08:08

How is everyone doing?

DS saw the consultant last week, he is at a loss as to what else to do now so trying slophylin again on top of everything else and booked for a ct scan and lung function test soon.

Well we're in hospital, got admitted 11 last night, she seems better after 2 hourly nebs during the night.

Sirzy · 23/11/2014 08:23

Oh no well. Hope it's only a short stay x

OP posts:
ilovemonstersinc · 23/11/2014 08:38

Hope hes better soon

ds has been given a letter that says if he needs salbutamol more than 3x a day he needa the presidolone? To stop things progressing further as he was bad last year

Sirzy · 23/11/2014 08:42

That's good iLove. Although that seems quite a low threshold for needing it. I would be worried about him ending up on pred more than he needed with just a 3 times a day threshold. But there again 3 times a day is a good day for DS!

WellThatsLife · 23/11/2014 17:49

Looks like there's a good chance we'll be in staying again tonight. Just what we need. Dh had booked this week off to get some jobs done around the house so at least dd2 is sorted

Sirzy · 23/11/2014 19:52

Oh no how is she doing?

OP posts:
WellThatsLife · 23/11/2014 20:37

A lot better than she was but 10 puffs isn't holding her for 4 hours plus she's just needed more atrovent neb. O2 is ok but it very rarely drops low with her. Just hope things improve over night

WellThatsLife · 24/11/2014 10:04

We're in for at least one more day!

Sirzy · 24/11/2014 16:35

Oh no :( hope your home soon

DS has been off school today but so far avoiding hospital
